  • New to The Fast Lane With Joe Tunney? Here's a short, funny video to get you up to speed: • Joe Tunney car salesma...
    There's a great story about Cal Worthington in the beginning that brings back a lot of fun history.
    2 amazing SUV's, but if you could only choose 1, which would it be?
    CR-V vs Passport performance: Although 2019 CRV LX models come with a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder, the EX, EX-L etc models come with a 1.5 turbocharged motor that puts out 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. This means great performance and almost 30 mpg combined, wow! The 2019 Passport features a 3.5 liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 21 average miles per gallon. Both have distinct advantages.
    Passport vs CRV towing: The CRV will only tow 1500 pounds, whereas the Passport will tow 3500 pounds with 2wd and 5000 pounds with awd. Big advantage, passport 2019.
    Honda CRV vs Honda Passport interior: Here's where things get weird: The Passport has class-leading interior space and is 600 pounds heavier than the CRV while riding on a significantly longer 111 inch wheelbase, but both the 2019 CRV and 2019 Passport have virtually identical interior room.
    The BIG difference in CRV 2019 vs Passport 2019 interiors? The Passport is 100% built for dog lovers.
    Passport 2019 vs CR-V 2019 exterior: Both are really sharp looking, but I'm a sucker for the Honda Passport's 20 inch standard wheels.
    CRV - class leading everything, including resale value
    Passport - perfect if you have dogs.
    So in the best SUV comparison, best small SUV comparison or best Honda SUV comparison, which do I choose: Of course the CR-V since it's much less expensive and just as capable - heck, it even has the same off-road ready ground clearance. Which is exactly why I picked the all new 2019 Honda Passport...it's new and different and I'm a big fan of new and different...if you picked the CRV 2019, wave to me at the gas station as you pass by!

    Loved the back story about Cal Worthington. I'm from Seattle and he had dealerships up in the Northwest as well. His jingle, "Go see Cal. Go see Cal. Go See Cal" is still stuck in my head. He also had lions and tigers in his commercials up here, some of which weren't always cooperative. Thanks for also pointing out the fact that Honda may be considered an import by name but logistically is probably more of a USA manufactured car then most of the "American" car dealers.

      Frances, there's a man in Seattle named Nick Blackburn and he owns Wild West Trucks on Lake City Way...swear to god he is the flashier evolution of Cal Worthington and one of the biggest influences on me in my entire life. In fact, he is one of the main reasons I made a career of the car business. I just love that guy so much! People like Cal Worthington have made amazing careers possible for so many hundreds, even thousands of people that it's an honor to be able to share their story.

      That's the case for most people giants22, but it does seem to affect a small number of people - particularly in cold-weather locations where individual drivers do a lot of short drives. I'm a big believer that import cars really get singled out for every possible fault whereas domestic cars are given FAR more latitude online.

  • @rampar77
    @rampar77 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to put in my sense. I am a semi-loyal Honda fan (had Accord, Integra) and I think they made the most durable car in the world. However they really screwed up the new CRV starting from 2015. I had a 2014 CRV LX-AWD. It was OK with adequate power, but it was one of the most uncomfortable car I ever drove. Honda upgraded the seat, arm rest, etc starting in 2015, but they put in a stupid turbo and CVT. I couldn't get a 2.4 engine other than LX trim. I realized Honda wanted to increase the MPG to attract cheap buyers. So I traded my CRV for a new 2018 RDX, a real upgrade from a CRV. I actually test drove a 2019 RDX and din't like the turbo, 10 speed trans and the stupid console. Of course I am still pissed that Acura took the SH-AWD off in the 2018 RDX in the name of MPG again. I had reviewed the new Passport and liked it, and it didn't have a turbo. However, I could not go back to cheap Honda after owning an Acura.

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything that is good about Honda is fantastic in an Acura. However, I still think the dumbest thing in the history of the car business, more than the Edsel, more than Mercedes' ill-fated (and short-lived) ownership of Chrysler, more than anything, is Acura getting rid of the Integra and Legend names and cars...just idiotic.

    I would hope that you might test drive a vehicle for about a week to get a good feel for its pros and cons. As a disabled person, getting into a vehicle and its comfort are a concern for me. How do you consider the CRV's comfort for a long ride such as a 3 hr trip? How would you rate the smoothness of the ride and the seat to butt ache factor :) ? Thanks

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For 3 hours of driving I'm going straight to the Passport, no doubt about it. I love the CRV, LOVE it, but not for 3 hours when I could be in a Passport instead.

    The stop/go technology on these vehicles is a deal breaker. Imagine being in stop and go traffic and the car constantly turning on and off. You can disable it but you have to do it every time you start the car. More sensors means more things that can break. I'm going to hold on to my car for a couple of more years until they figure out that people don't want this. The tiny fuel savings does not overcome the downside.

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind, fuel savings is an obsession for companies these days. Expect more of this technology in the future, not less. The good news is that this isn't new technology for Honda and that their reliability is proven to be the best in the industry over the past 35 years +.

    • @MaestroTJS
      @MaestroTJS 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what it's like in this Honda, but my parents' Audi has the feature and I think it partly has to do with how much pressure you put on the brake pedal. So, if you put less, it think you're in stop and go traffic and it doesn't turn off, but if you use more pressure, it does. I know my father hates it and turns it off but it doesn't bother my mother. It annoys me whenever I get the chance to drive the car also. I'm not sure how pressing a single button makes a car a "deal-breaker." I mean, it's a nuisance, but really, man, that's very nit-picky! At least you still have the option to turn it off.

      The original Passport had a lot of quality control issues since it was made by Isuzu yet it still had great resale value. The Pilot, which the new Passport is based off of, has amazing resale value. Since it's the only Honda with an actual off-road bias, I think the resale value might the the best of any vehicle in the brand.

      That would be an absolute blast here in Hawaii.

  • @randallstewart175
    @randallstewart175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In Hawaii, I'd buy the CR-V with its little, over-stressed engine and so-so CRT, because there are no long distances to drive and almost all driving will end up being at lower speeds and city or suburb driving. The oil dilution will destroy the engine somewhere around 75k - 100k, but overall mileage per year will be a lot less than mainland driving. The excessive cost of gas in Hawaii will be avoided and offset the cost of such the engineering failures. On the mainland, I think the same considerations dictate the Passport. I had planned to buy a CR-V for several years, but in the end, I bought the Passport with no real question. The argument he makes over the historical high resale value of the CR-V is worthless. Honda's screwing around trying to dodge responsibility for its serious design defects in the 1.5 liter turbo in the CR-V has already destroyed any prospect of a significant resale value for a current CR-V. Honda telegraphed its admission that the the current CR-V will have practically no resale value by extended in the warranty one year rather than redesigning the engine. So why doesn't Honda just redo the turbocharged engine in the CR-V to solve its problems? Because it's been selling that engine for 3 years now. If they admit they pulled a stinker there, the past buyers would put a new definition to the legal term "class action". So Honda has adopted the Ford Pinto strategy: let'm break down, deny everything, pay the lawyers and the judgments for the relatively few claimants who can go that distance. For Honda, it's a car which will self-destruct and have no value except to a junk yard somewhere around 100k. (For Ford it was exploding gas tanks, much worse, but the same analysis.(

    Is the oil dillution problem for horda crv has been fixed?

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honda is rolling out a fix for a problem that causes fuel to mix with oil in its popular CR-V, but it will come later than expected - and not everyone will get an automatic remedy.
      The free update will "address potential for abnormal engine oil dilution arising out of consistent short-trip driving at extreme cold temperatures," Honda said in an emailed statement to Cars.com. Owners will receive notifications beginning in early December, several weeks later than the mid-November time frame the automaker originally anticipated.Honda will roll out the fix in five states at first - Maine, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin - and fix all model-year 2017 and 2018 CR-Vs with the problem, to the tune of some 25,000 vehicles addressed. Honda plans to expand the fix to 16 more states over the next two months "when additional replacement parts become available."The additional states are Alaska, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

      @@everycarSeattle no doubt most of the cars made in Ontario go to the USA. Canada makes up a small percentage of the overall North American market. Believe it or not, Canadians bought 60,000 CRV's last year... 58% of them were built at the Alliston #2 plant...#1 makes Civics and #3 makes Honda engines (out of recycled materials no less) ...unfortunately that oil concern only affects people in cold climates (something Canada has in abundance right now) and although Honda has been a bit slow to resolve the issue in my eyes, their openness about the problem and desire to create a positive solution are just how Honda has been doing business since forever.

Also, he has more than 13,000 subscribers but only 5,653 views, that is 43.5% approval, and not all of those 5,653 views were from subscribers. Also, this video has 9 comments and only 2 said it was a worthwhile story, let’s do the math 2/9 is 22.2% approval for the story itself. Let’s look at the thumbs up and down. 53 thumbs up out of 5,653 views is .0094%, that is an approval rating of LESS THAN 1%, that is beyond dismal approval. I didn’t even give a thumb rating. So, 43.5%, 30.2% and 22.2% are ALL a failing grade and those are all decent metrics to gauge a video. So, I stand by my original statement, almost no one cares about that story. And not many people thought it was a good video overall.

      Andrew Stern I have now corrected my mistake and given a thumb rating 👎 I seldom give thumbs down but you helped change my mind.

    Ive done a long ride in my buddys new CRV, interior is cheap feeling and info display is tilted too much toward windshield, lot of needless glare. feel every bump and seats are low end for sure...yeah cheaper and you will know it....if I go that route will get a new TOYOTA RAV...better in every way than the CRV, I do like the Passport though.

      I'm glad they finally made something a little chunkier overall like Passport...but I would love if they would create an off-road line for all of their SUV's that addressed some of the flimsier pieces and bits and replaced them with something more heavy duty.
