i have no smart unmasking plugin. i was thinking of getting one. i was eyeballing smart eq 4, but i am under the impression the unmasking in smart eq is static instead of dynamic? or am i wrong? if it is dynamic, it would probably make pure unmask redundant, would it not?
smart EQ 4 is definitely dynamic. The killer feature of smart EQ is that you can run several instances of smart EQ on several tracks, add them all to a Group, and smart EQ will automatically carve out space for each instrument. This can clear up conflicts, and you can even move them around in layers. Want your vocals to be louder? Move them up to the top! You can't do that with any other plugin. However, smart EQ can't do sidechain ducking, like Pure Unmask, FAST Reveal, Trackspacer or Waves Curves Equator. If you want to do dynamic sidechaing-ducking, then I'd recommend Waves Equator while it's on sale for only $39. It kicks ass. But if you want more complex, automatic unmasking, go for smart EQ 4.
Nice thing about Trackspacer to is that it adjusts to the incoming signal in realtime. This is good when parts of the song change. Seems Unmask only works over a section you define (the part of the song you have it analyze)? Soothe 2 is really good at doing what Trackspacer does with more detail.
i agree about soothe 2. It also costs a loooot more. I just purchased unmask for „easy“ tasks“ like standard kick-bass relations where i sometimes find soothe almost overkill. Luxury problems :-) Now that i think about it with some automation work you can get a long way . Very nice for people who can`t or simply don`t want to invest in the more expensive tools
Great points, @MLaudio20! I believe pure:unmask is still dynamically plotting and responding to the input signal; but it tailors it from the initial learning profile. I might seek some clarity on that from Sonible. And you're right: sidechaining with soothe2 is rarely talked about, and it's like the Rolls Royce for dynamic frequency ducking. I should do a video on that! Cheers, and thanks so much for watching!
I think it's great that we have some affordable options now. It would blow my mind to start mixing in this day and age; so many tools for improving audio quality! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Cheers!
@@MLaudio20 Definitely agree, and this goes to the top of my list. You're probably like me: when I first saw soothe, I was like, "wow-what can you do with this to sidechain and clear up clashing??". I love the idea, I'll get right on that!
Thanks! That's from my band Arkana. I'm currently remixing/mastering the LP because it sounded like shit, it'll be back up soon. I'll announce on a video when it's ready! Cheers!
Yes, I would say if you have SmartEQ, you do not need pure unmask. With SmartEQ, you don't even need to use you DAW's sidechain; you can just add different instances to a group, and unmasking will.occur. And you can move them up and down to bring something more to the front! Very powerful. Yeah, I'd ignore pure unmaks and FAST Reveal if you own Smart. Cheers!
That is on my list. I got my review copy, just need to finish up a long-form video that's taking much longer than I thought. But it's a good one! Cheers.
After watching the whole video I’m convinced Soothe is better than them all ! Soothe doesn’t take down all of this detail it only focuses on the resonances that’s clashing
I hear you. Soothe is extremely detailed and transparent, as long as you don't push it too far. And most people forget that you can sidechain it, and frequency-duck other channels with it. Great points! Cheers!
@@palebluedotstudios heck yeah man I just watched a video the other day of someone using it in a way I never seen getting the vocals to cut through a mix without squashing everything down it was very eye opening he had the q opened as wide as it could go and it was only focused on the resonances that were in the way of the vocal very innovative!
@@HitzdropBeats Sounds like a great way to do it! I'll have to check that out. I'll post a video soon about sidechaining with soothe; I think its overdue! Cheers!
EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION AND COMPARISON OF CURRENT TOOLS FOR UNMASKING. THANK YOU!
OMG Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching. Cheers!
Looks like a really solid offering. Great presentation too. Thanks.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it, means a lot! Cheers.

@@palebluedotstudios You should do a video on Soothe 2 and sidechaining! I dont think enough people know about it and or think to use it that way.

And new FireSpacer :)
Thanks for reminding me of what I need to review next!
Is that "Silvers of silver" song released? Who's song is it by?

@@palebluedotstudios hey any updates on the song?
Pure Unmask is also great for ducking reverb.
It sure is. And how Izotope put out Aurora, which has auto-ducking built in! I’m hoping to review that this weekend. Cheers.
Whoops! I left a total flub in there around the 8:00 mark, haha. What do you think of pure unmask? Let me know in the comments below!
Is it works as well as trackspacer or Fuser, the price is definitely right
Agreed! And thanks for reminding me about Fuser! I haven't had a chance to review that yet. Cheers.
I already have sonible smart eq 4 so this plugin already does the job of pure Unmask right? wanted to make sure please guide.

Could you do some videos on getting a vintage sound?
Late 60s?
Great idea! I did touch on this a bit in my UAD Verve review. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/UA2X1-w1Obc/w-d-xo.html
you mean air flavour pro, rekraft and rc 20 style?
You know how it would better? if you use proper music and instruments,
Agreed!
