Excellent review and demo, as always! Thank you for the dive! That swish/ringing sound associated with the resonance sweep was hard to pin down at first but the plugin tamed it effectively. This is a winner at this price point! I hope WA productions displays the perceived resonances more clearly in the GUI on a future update.
Thank you! Yes, I agree: I meant to mention that I though the frequency analyzer wasn't very useful, i.e., you can barely see if there is any gain reduction at all, or what the "problem" frequencies are. Good call!
This is the best resonance plugin I've ever tried. (And I have them all, including Soothe 2). I was able to fix a problem master in two seconds. Great recommendation, thank you!!!
So great to hear! That was my experience too. It worked instantly on my guitar tracks (as you heard). Looking forward to experimenting with it more! Cheers!
@@esahm373 yea yea, I know it's not as versatile as soothe but it worked for me so quickly in my particular scenario that I had to add it to the tool chest
@@esahm373 WA Production, United Plugins, UVI and Melda Production are owned by Image-Line they all are sister companies and indeed they share some features and frameworks. Soothe acts on multiple frequencies at the same time, with Deres you have to choose only one resonant frequency and only other ones very close to the choosed via the Q setting.
Definitely. It's focused. I would say it's clearly not acting in the spectral domain on multiple dynamic bands, like soothe 2; but I find it very effective, with lots of options for sculpting your sound. Oh yeah: and it's cheap! Thanks for watching!
Sometimes there really is only one nasty resonance... And Smoothe 2 can be overkill.... A lot of people have had to dial back their soothe 2 use.... After making things too tame
@@ramspencer5492 Oh, I agree. soothe 2 definitely is overused. Always good to be careful and have a reality-check! Cheers!
Soothe is a great plugin. But I love these types of plugins even more. Deres in particular does show Soothe up to be overkill in most situations. So far, I’ve found Deres to be so elegant n simple in use. Plus they understand that in doing this type of sculpting, you might wanna add some vibe back in, with those extra tone controls. Personally, I believe that Soothe is in no way worth multiple times more than a plugin like Deres. My experience with overpriced plugins is that you can always find many cheaper alternatives- some even for free- and in many cases with way more charm and vibe than those with high stickers. Ultimately all subjective of course;)
Or forgot to say, you can work on multiple frequencies same time with Deres too. If you combine and adjust the octave function along with the Q knob, then dial in the dynamic function. Then effectively you have dynamic resonance suppression on multiple frequencies at the same time. With each of those controls being infinitely variable, within the audible and visually displayed frequency ranges.

Awesome review as well as the demo..! Can you please help me to choose between W.A. Deres or Brainworx bx_refinement.. Thanks again for the really helpful reviews.. :)
Hi! Pardon the late response. I'd recommend W.A. Deres over bx_refinement. bx_refinement offers correction ONLY at 3khz, whereas Deres processes from 1k to 8k, plus tons of other options. And it's usually cheaper! I use Deres all the time now, and don't touch refinement much. Cheers!
@@palebluedotstudios Thank you very much for answering my question.. WA Productions have some useful and affordable tools. I use Deres, Outlaw (auto gain), Kick shaper and Vocal shaper. Outlaw is a handy vocal rider and Kick shaper can dial in a big kick drum sound fast.
OH yes, I remember really liking Outlaw, and I need to revisit Kick Shaper. Thanks for the tips, I'll check those out. Might be time for a review...cheers!
No, Deres can’t sidechain at all. I’d quite effective for broad resonance correction, but it’s not really a dynamic plugin. Very good for the price. Cheers!
You've been trying to find a Soothe alternative, but I think you found a replacement! (at least for the higher frequencies) I have some virtual cash so I'll get it for free. :) WA production should definitely show your video on their website.
Yes and no. Smooth Operator can do spectral sidechain-input ducking, but I like the sound of Deres better. I find smooth operator is just too drastic and hard to control.
i knew i held off on buying Soothe 2 for a reason.....Number 1 being it's co$$$t. that's never an issue with WA Productions and i enjoy the hell outta their stuff....including this plugin. nice tune btw.
You know, in PluginDoctor, it looks like a standard EQ notch filter; but WA Productions indicate there is more going on, such as dynamics and "convolution response". I'm awaiting word from them about this-thanks!
@@palebluedotstudios yeah was curious on what else it's doing. I tried the demo and agree that the listen feature can be deceptive, but somehow I managed to remove some resonance using it. That was surprising as when I selected the frequency I wasn't sure at all it was correct
@@palebluedotstudios maybe I found my answer from another comment where someone was saying that one you found the frequency you can target others using octave % and dynamic %. Seems like a better till than Soothe 2 for many kinda of resonance suppression... Not a better tool overall.... Different. Better for some things... Won't do others. Would work well as an additional tool in the tool box....
