Can I use this with fl studio and also how do I install on fl studio
Great video thanks! I think I'll go ahead and buy the Waves one cause it's cheap. I was going to get soothe 2 as well because it's 60e off this week but maybe I'll get Speccraft and Waves. I would still have change compared to buying Soothe 2. The question I have though, is on very problematic single tracks would Soothe 2 be better than Speccraft or Equator? If money was no object which out of the 3 would you buy if you could only buy one? thanks 👍
Ozone is amazing and has been a game changer for me. I use it on everything from mixes to radio broadcasting etc etc. I agree it feels and works like it was built for the digital age.
I know people use these in full mixes, but when doing comparisons it's much harder to notice the differences because there's just too much stuff going on.
Guys, seriously, I don't get it. Let's say you have a vocal with that 700 harshness. Get an eq and drop it. That's about it. What you have here instead a "dynamic resonance suppressor" that's taming the 700 exactly only when the 700 are singing, which is what the simple EQ is doing anyway in the first place. When there's no 700 the dyn resonance suppressor doesn't suppress, but the eq also doesn't suppress the 700 when they're not there. I'm not saying there isn't a need for these tools, but in many cases they over complicate what could be dead simple.
Love this plugin ,Thanks you for review.
Great video as usual! I own this plugin and still learned a lot from your video. Thanks!
Obviously your a mixer and Not a sound designer
The harmonics helped a very digital recording I had. I boosted it to like 2 and it smoothened that digital feeling and made it less harsh. Thanks for the video not many out there on this plugin!
great vid and the fact that you used was voltron was rad! i remember the days waking up at 6 to eat cereal and watch voltron before i headed out the door to skate before school
I agree with you. I bought and buy plugins and other software this time of year Black Friday. I bought a bunch of plugins over the years and now I can't use them. So yea, I'm done. Thank you for making this video.
I want to buy it, what 2 first piano packages you like in all aspect…? I play for church and band
Many have fell in love with the new Kawai. I just purchased Pianoteq Stage after having looked at it for a while. I chose Kawai and Petrof and purchased Upright as an extra. You can't go wrong with Kawai or Steinway D, I don't think.
waves forces you to pay for updates though
Not exactly. You can go without updating, and the plugins will work in Windows. It's macOS that can be problematic with breaking changes between OS versions. You're _more likely_ to need to (pay for an) update on Mac.
@ you still have to pay if you want an update no matter what OS you are on
TDR Arbiter, ProAudioDSP DSM, apUnmask, TheMasker.
bx refinement 10 bucks on sale now . . . thx for getting it on my radar, AND for the little tutorial, which was a lot of help getting quick results. Works great getting rid of jankiness, I think is the tech term for that steely racket that you don't really notice as such until you hear the mix without it. On master buss seemed to create a lot of separation and definition. Or maybe that was the edible kicking in. Tomorrow it may sound like elevator music . . . Anyway, love it so far.
Yep. I thought the same here in my room. I was pleasantly surprised.
FANTASTIC video, subscribed! Also, what artist is this song by? I assume it's called "Surface of the Sun." Edit: Regarding auto-gain, it's something TBT said they're looking into, but it's hard implementing a good algorithm for it.
SpecCraft is my go-to nowadays.
This plugin is really impressive. Thank you for the video!
Thank you much! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Big Like for the assistant kitty
Very enlightening tutorial. What did we do for info before there was TH-cam and people like you? Thank you
L/R and M/S modes do not work properly.
Oh? I'll have to test that out.
@@palebluedotstudios Try to get signal suppression in L, M-channels and in R, S-channels, check goniometer readings
very good and informative!
Thank you so much! I need to do a new one. Cheers!
Never really was a fan of their GUI so it’s a miss for me. Presets are a pig to go through and are hidden away. The lack of visual assistance which other plugins have is downside for me. Might be nice for other people that use just their ears though. I just bought Spec Craft and that’s 👌🏻
SpecCraft is amazing, and goes way beyond what M-Clarity 2 can do. I'm thinking M-Clarity 2 is more of a "grab and go" plugin, specifically for boxy/muddy mixes. Great on voice too. But it's more of a "no-fuss" solution. Cheers!
@ 100% looks like a quick fix. I would pay the extra few pounds and pick up Spec Craft as it’s still on intro price at £55, a lot more control! Keep the videos coming 🙃
@@disruption_uk It's close call, but yes, at the intro price, SpecCraft is a great choice! Cheers.
What I don’t like is the business model they use. I’m a version 1 owner (among other of their plugins) and I would like to get this upgrade for free. It’s $25 for an improved plugin, $10 would have been reasonable.
I do find this very confusing. V1 isn't even that old. I would've expected these changes to be the UPDATE to the existing plugin, not a completely new one. And, like I mentioned, they all look the same! So that's equally confusing. Cheers!
I pretty much was going to grab the upgrade anyway (and I now have using your link), but I would have preferred if you had included more on the specific improvements versus version 1. Thanks.
That's a great point. I didn't want the video to be too long, so I inadvertently glossed over that. Cheers!
It sounds amazing. Thanks for the video! 🙌
You are most welcome! Thanks so much for watching, cheers!
Got this for free also!!!
No way! Man, I love this plugin. It's like a sequel to PSP Vintage Warmer !
This may be a dumb question, but couldn't a dynamic or static EQ be used just as effectively, if not more precisely, for the resonance that you hear and/or could seek-out by sweeping? With that in mind, what is the draw to these resonance suppression plugins? To me, the most precise resonance-suppressor is one's ears and an parametric EQ. MTM's RESO does a great job also if someone needs PRECISE + SLIGHTLY AUTOMATED.
Sounds pretty smooth-conservative, even! So it's always focused on lows and mids? That's cool. Leaves your highs alone. Do you think it would be handy on individual sources? 🤔 Great vid thanks!
Yes, for sure! I guess I forgot to show that in this video! I wound up using it on my voiceover, actually. I have a very muddy voice, so it helped to quickly make it sound smoother and more professional. It's great on drums and bass too. As I said in the video, I find that it just doesn't do a lot in the high region. So it's not totally universal, but takes care of the most common problem area in audio. Cheers!
If this had dynamic EQ, it would be perfect...! Transient feature is nuts.
Agreed! I’d be a little shocked if it had dynamics for free! But there’s always TDR Nova or ZL Equalizer. Cheers!
I never saw equalizer as a similar tool as Soothe2 but now that you mention it. It does a lot of magical things, but I feel maybe it's a bit different
It is a bit different. It's more of a dynamically-plotted EQ, like Gullfoss or Stabilizer. But it is trying balance errant frequencies in the spectrum, based off a flat reference like pink noise. Cheers!
@ thanks
Hardly the end of Soothe 2. Waves has an adequate copy of Soothe2’s functionality but it’s really not even that close to level of functionality that Soothe2 has. It is adequate and useful though. If I didn’t already own Soothe2, I’d definitely purchase this as a much more inexpensive alternative. Equator works.
You make some good points. I would point out that Equator also adds multiband processing thresholds, which soothe2 does not have. I still find soothe2 better for some tasks, but man, that price difference...however, you're probably right: it's not dead, nor do I wish any ill will to oeksound. He's a trailblazer and soothe2 will always be a great legend! Cheers.
When comparing Soothe and Equator on the techno piece, I noticed that the kickdrum in Soothe became sort of unclear and lost attack. The low end was still there, but the rest got kind of... I dunno... marshmallowy. I dont have either plugin, but I think I am going to pick up Equator.
You nailed it. I've often found that I have to take a lot of time to balance soothe2, so that I don't get artifacts. I find it by FAR the most artifact-y of these plugins when it's pushed hard. Equator and SpecCraft seem to leave transients 100% intact. So that's something for buyers to be aware of. Thanks so much for watching, cheers! Thanks so much for watching, cheers!
What company of plugins would you guys recommend
An overall company that has many different types of plugins? Off the top of my head, if you're ok with a subscription, I'd say Slate plugins. You get an insane amount of plugins, PLUS the full SSL and Harrison lineup. Plus they have plenty of Waves alternatives for things like RBass. Cheers!
That was a great video ngl. thanks
My pleasure! And thank you for watching! Cheers!
Distorted rhythm guitar is probably the most harmonically stagnant thing there is. Strange choice.
Harmonically stagnant? Interesting. Generally, distorted guitars are the most harmonically rich signals because, well, harmonics are cranked up to maximum in the signal. More distortion, more harmonics. Plus they're prone to resonances from pickups, speaker breakup and other mix processing. But they are dynamically stagnant! Cheers.
what is the song in the 1st part of the video. Released?
It's "Writings From the Surface of the Sun" from my band, Arkana. I'm currently remixing it because the master was shit. I'll release the LP soon and make an announcement video; many have asked! Cheers!
Waves regular price is $10 more than Speccraft. Also, you have to deal with Waves business model, therefore it would be worth paying more to Speccraft since it sounds like it's a little better than Curves Equator other than their sale price. But it's only 30$ more and still much cheaper than Soothe2. BTW, excellent video! So informative and in depth. Thank you! Instant sub.
Oh man, thanks so much! That means a lot. :) Pardon my late response, was out of the country. Those are great points. It's a tight race between Equator and SpecCraft. I keep going back and forth in my head, but I do find myself reaching for SpecCraft more for tougher material. It's got a bit more control, ultimately. But if it's a money decision, Equator is the best deal when it's at that $39 price. I'll stand by that. But when they both a similar price, then I think buyers have to try both and see what resonates with them. Cheers!
Thanks for the tips, I will use this in my future masters if needed !!!
So glad to hear that! Always happy to help. Stay tuned for more tips. :)
What do you think of Kush Novatron?
It's excellent. Kush really knows his shit. Mind you, it's been awhile since I tested it; I'll have to revisit.
This is nice. Aurora has minimal but effective and easy-to-navigate controls. I like the palette of reverb algorithms and I love the unmask/ducking feature. This looks like a winner to me, and I thought I already owned enough reverbs! Thanks for another great review.
Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it. Not a lot of viewers tuned in for Aurora this week. 😅
In my short comparative demoing with spoken audio, I seemed to get a more clear and precise result from SpecCraft vs Waves. It seemed to be more flexible. Did you find this to be the case, or were you able to dial in Waves as well or better? I heard one or two people say they got less artifacting from Waves than SpecCraft. I didn’t notice that, but I was listening in a less than ideal environment…is this anecdotal or real? Thanks!!
Great question. I was just saying to another viewer that, when I need to work on tougher material, I find myself reaching for SpecCraft. It's got a bit more control, and tends to react more strongly than Equator. Now at stronger settings, I tend to hear a little more artifacts from SpecCraft, but we're talking heavy settings. I find them both very transparent, but honestly, I couldn't get Waves Equator to produce any significant artifacts. So keep that in mind. If money is a concern, get Equator. If you want to spend a little more, get SpecCraft. But they're both outstanding. Cheers!
was on sale.. I fell into the hype I guess.. it's a reverb. With a ducking system but honestly there are alternatives that have no AI bs lingo attached and sound better. But hey it was very cheap and in my op. it's an ok reverb if you have nothing else and it's a deep sale. If u have the budget tho go fabfilter without hesitation... did I say Klevgrand's reverb is a tiny little cheap thing that sounds really good for the price?
For a lot of us, setting up a sidechain duck for a reverb isn't a big deal. I found Aurora's best feature was for adding widening to tracks, and I think that's what I'll be using it for. And which Klevgrand? R0Verb?
@@palebluedotstudios klaverb.. super cheap I think it was 17 bucks when I got it and does the trick just fine.. has ducking functionality. I mean nowadays there are so many options let's be honest. Then naturally if u want a great reverb you go I dunno lexicon.. I use an old hardware TC electronics reverb most of the time and for me no software reverb gets even close but for the budget musician I think at a low price point there are very decent options. This is why I expected a little bit more from iZotope competing in an already saturated market. Plus the use of the AI buzzword... what's AI about this one? It's like with Sonible.. love their gate for example, it's my fav gate ever... but AI means something else. Again, Aurora is not bad but there are cheaper solutions that sound better in my op. Roverb I do not have but for example the randomiser in Roverb sounds kinda interesting doesn't it? Not sure if useful but hey...
@@n3r0n3 Oh yes! Kleverb; that's a good one.
How do you think it compares to using wide blue sound’s silencer?
Silencer is quite different: it's trying to cut off the reverb before the next event. I personally didn't care for Silencer; it just sounded unnatural to me, and you have to load plugins into it. I'd take Aurora over it.
This is better then soothe and wave curve but if use less CPU
It's a stunning plugin. The more I use it, the more I love it. Cheers!
As a long time user of DSEQ I thought I'd try this out and I was *nearly* ready to hit the buy button on this. The GUI is just so much nicer than DSEQ and workflow felt better. But I thought I'd better do an A/B test as there were a few things which I wasn't quite 100% happy with: the lack of any scale for the reduction and the fact that the Q didn't really feel as good as the "specificity" control that I was used to. Well, pleased I did in the end because in terms of audio quality there wasn't too much to choose between them but there was a huge difference in CPU consumption. Even turning off DSEQ ability to change the oversampling rates for rendering this plugin used a heck of a lot more CPU. My guess is that's because it's new and DSEQ has been through a lot of revisions and updates but I think I just proved (again) that I should beware of shiny new things and just spend a bit more time with what I've got.
Oh! Thanks for testing that out. Pardon, I just want to clarify: you're saying that SpecComp used a lot more CPU than DSEQ?
@@palebluedotstudios yes, sorry, should have been clearer. SpecComp uses a lot more CPU than DSEQ. How much more its difficult to be precise because it depends on whether you are talking about what the DAW (Studio One) is reporting or what Windows is reporting but it seemed to be enough to be material so I'll wait and see if they optimise the code. I do still much prefer the GUI and I like the compensation features but I think I'll stick to DSEQ for the moment.
v. useful. how does CPU compare? Equator is much more demanding than the_smoother (the only two I've tried so far). I am a TBT convert now, Kirchhoff and recently Cenozoix have become my main tools so Spec looks v good.
Yeah, I'd say if you're already in the Kirchoff world, then this is probably the best choice. However, i think SpecCraft uses more CPU than Equator, which feels very light overall. Personally, I didn't run into any CPU issues when testing these plugins. I feel like most modern machines are up to the task. But govern yourself accordingly! Thanks so much for watching, cheers!
