I want to reverse the cutting to post the frequency i choose
This was outstanding..
Thank you!
20:50 great comparison - interestingly the rolloff in the Kick side chain in soithe seems to follow the kick (frequency going down) whereas it is static in equator./ Still the "Rider" feature is killers, so far I was using Attack / release on track spacer and the same on waves F6 to duck out bass with the Kick. a "rider release" and "ride shape" would be really nice addition to really be able to craft proper pumping without using a gate / compressor..
22:40 I had to LOL. I find soothe really really hard to use. love track spacer though. It's nothing to do with fancy looks or the amount of money spent on a plugin, it's the result and the workflow that counts. And hopefully it doesn't hog as much CPU as soothe 2.
I'm having a dilemma since I'm questioning whether to renew my Slate subscription. I like the idea of using a limited number of well-designed plugins and getting to know how to use them. However, I also enjoy the convenience and the variety of slate plugins.
Thankyou so much for this. I bought the plugin, but you have showed me how to really make the most this tool. Amazing video. 👏 👏 👏 🙏
Amazing! I'm so happy I could help! Stay tuned, I'm putting out a video very soon about how I used Waves Curves Equator to help remaster my old, crappy CD!
The real secret sauce is having kitties walking on your keyboard
You got that right! Rawr!
A superb theme. I've always loved it. It puts you into the right mood right away. Post was a hit maker.
He sure was! Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
Where does this reside? On the master? So you have to automate it?
Love your indepth but straight ahead no frills approach. I also you read the manual and aren't approaching things like others just winging it.
Do you need to spend $200 on Gullfoss if this sounds good on the master? Would you need Gullfoss if you had Curves? Thanks
I would love to hear a comparison between this and Curves Equator. What's your preference between Soothe and Gullfoss on for vocals or guitar?
I was at a meeting at WestWind Media, Mike Post's studio in the San Fernando Valley and was in the studio and could see Mike Post in his room writing a show literally while we were in the next room chatting about about something else. Great times. All reel to reel then in the mid 80's. There is a whole other amazing story about that place as well, but want to keep that offline for now. About the trials of noise thru the floor there and how they got rid of it. NO fault to the engineer, designer of the place Chris Huston either.
Whoa, that's super-interesting! like, you met Mike Post??
@@palebluedotstudios Several times. I worked as a session musician in LA for years. Trumpet etc. I have a lot of history in the biz. MIke was introduced to me by a few people.
@@gregoryivesdolbyatmosmusic That's amazing. A career path I would have loved to have! Was it television/film work? I may have to hit you up for background some time. I bet you have some stories...(not that I'm after gossip or anything)
@@palebluedotstudios OK Some I may not share online as I try to stay out of that fray. It's just some fun memories of how people helped me get a start in many ways, but it was not an easy path. So many younger people I know want to "make it quick". The process is the fun part and glad I had that opportunity to do it that way. Many gigs that were not glamorous or fun, but I moved ahead. I did what I had to do to survive. Day jobs etc.
Is it me or does The Mod Squad and Police Woman themes never get any love? Peggy Lipton starred in the former and soon after the series ended she married Quincy Jones.
Mod Squad rules! Adding to the list. Police Woman, I'll have to look up... Cheers!
Best series ever. Also its theme song (the good one) is just like something like the Never ending story… immortal music.
It's such a good show! I've watched the whole series a couple times since becoming an older person, and it really holds up. And good call on Neverending Story; a great song! Cheers!
Great! God bless you man n’ Merry Christmas☝️💀🏴☠️🖤 SOLI DEO GLORIA (To The Glory Of God Alone) Father, Son & Holy Spirit -Ronnie
Thank you!
I helped you get to your 6.66k subs.
Hahah! Yes! I'm about to meet My Dark Lord....thanks!
Classic Post / Carpenter track of the era, with Pete doing all the orchestrations. Studio orchestra. Brass dry as a bone. Same with the string section. The piano was doubled with a Rhodes with chorus on the early theme sessions. It's Larry Carlton doing the guitar on all versions. The guitar part gets a few variations on each session re-arrangement. The middle eight chords are so characteristic for Post / Carpenter cues. A lot of the incidental cues for Magnum , Rockford and The A-team use them a lot throughout.
Wow, you really know your Post/Carpenter details! That's right: I forgot to mention Larry Carlton, whose guitar-playing is so wonderful. Or rather, I wound up editing it out for time. Do you think the piano was doubled with a rhodes? I had wondered if that was the case, although it sounded like a single keyboard instrument to me. But I should check out the re-recorded full version to verify. Cheers! Stay tuned for more, definitely going to cover Rockford, A-Team, and others!
@@palebluedotstudios Yup, been all over themes for 40 years. Yes, the opening sections (on the Tv sessions) are just acoustic piano. Then the Rhodes doubles and syncopates with the acoustic on the verse section. It's the same on Post's only 'official' release from 1982 (even though that was in the wrong tempo and didn't have any orchestra on it!) .
@@culttelevision Ooh, this is great intel. So are you saying you may know a thing or two about the recording of Rockford and others? I'll hit you up before posting.
@@palebluedotstudios Would be a pleasure. I also have an encyclopaedia library of every release from that era and helped license a few things to come back after laying dormant for 20 years like the Knight Rider soundtrack etc.
S.W.A.T.is the best imho.
S.W.A.T. does kick ass. I think that actually was the first theme I ran down to my piano and played. Adding to my list!!!
Yes, this is one of the best TV themes ever. And it completely baffles me that there's no official soundtrack album for the show yet! And why was a rerecorded version of the theme released and not the original?
So glad you agree! As for the re-recorded version, what often happens with TV themes is that they're written and recorded quickly, and to match the exact length of a 30-60 second intro. But then when the show becomes popular, they go back in an re-record a longer version. For me, they're almost always disappointing, because we fall so deeply in love with those precise arrangements, and how they're permanently synchronized with their matching visuals. This is an interesting thought; I might have to do a video on this. Cheers!
@@palebluedotstudios I'd love to see that!
@@kevinputry5655 Amazing! stay tuned. :P
Thunderbirds. No contest.
THat's a good one! I personally never watched that show, or had a chance to connect with it. But it has a very strong foloowing, especially in the UK. I'll add it to my research list! Cheers!
Streets of San Francisco 👍
Getting a LOT of votes for that! A real classic; a crazy, groovy, funky banger. Cheers!
Superb, honest and straightforward. I completely agree with the reviewer's sentiments. dxRevive has reinvented the wheel, no exaggeration.
Thank you so much! If I had my way, Accentize would be the industry standard. But then again, I like having my own secret weapons...
theme song is not even in the top 10.. noob
oh yeah? what's youre fave tv theme songs?
So many good ones ...but my favourite are... Barney Miller. Hawai Five O. Dukes of Hazard. Peticoat Junction. WPRK in Cincinatti. And....The Littlest Hobo.
The Littlest Hobo! Are you Canadian???
It’s gotta be said, the 1980s had some of the very best TV theme tunes… probably with some spillover from the late 70s, too. Tom Scott’s Starsky & Hutch theme, anyone?
Uh, yes please! adding to the list. I agree: I think theme tunes were SO crucial, and had become such a passionate art form, that I think we can truly say it was the peak era! Love it. Cheers!
This is false. Because it is, OBVIOUSLY, the Knight Rider theme.
Oh man, I hear you! I am 100% doing that soon. Vote in my poll! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxdTijfYs5MVQV43D10E8iQ7E4Gby1Ot-Z?si=RLUR7kmx6rry7I_z

@@revisethedream8406 Great, give it a spin! You can get amazing results, especially in tandem with AudioLens. Cheers!
Rockford Files theme is one of the best ever.
It really is. I almost regretted putting it in the intro to this video, because it's so good! I'm gonna have to do an episode on this.
You had me at drop 9. Subbed!
Amazing! Thank you so much! Stay tuned for more. Cheers!
One of the Songs that made me wanna be a composer...and still all 4-6 years I have to do something Disko ;-) In my opinion without magnum PI there would be no Jamiroquai ;-) So thanks for this wonderful analysis. I broke it down for me a couple of years ago and almost was 1:1 surprised and confused at the same parts. You feel the whole time that this must be something special...but breaking it truly shows that genius and theft are often brothers ;-)
That's an interesting angle with Jamiriquai! Yes, I do hear a lot of the 1979/1980 quality in his music. And he definitely straddles the line between genius and theft, haha. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It was a real labour of love, stay tuned for many more! Cheers!
Clearly Magnum PI, but also DALLAS.
Yes, I'm getting Dallas a lot! And that was the first prime-time soap opera I ever watched; love that theme. It's on the list!
Hill Street Blues is the best!
Oh, it really is! That is also a Mike Post/Peter Carpenter number!
The best television theme is from 'Angel' by Darling Violetta. Those strings are awesome.
That's a very unique suggestion! And it's a good one. I'm more of a Buffy guy myself (Angel felt like one show too many at the time), but this is a great track. Cheers!
It's not a song, its a Theme Tune,...a song is made by the human voice
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm just using the popular colloquial term for ease of understanding. Although the dictionary does list one definition as "a musical composition suggestive of a song." But you are correct. Cheers!
My favorite. Thank you for this. 🙏🏾🤙🏾
My pleasure! Thank you SO much for watching! Cheers!
It's really too bad you weren't doing a breakdown of the theme to Mary Tyler Moore show because that little cat 'mew' would have gone perfect with the MTM outro stinger.
Hahaha, wow; that's a deep reference! I love it. That's a fantastic theme. Would be a good opportunity to explore the luxuriant chord structures and arrangements of the 1970s. Added to the list! Thanks so much for watching, cheers!
Sanford and son the best… also Good Times, greatest American hero, the theme from buck Rogers in the 25th century, X-Files
Sandford & Son and Good Times: excellent suggestions! I remember running home after junior high to watch Good Times; love that show. Added to the list! Thanks so much for watching, cheers!
A-team theme is amazing and I mean that musically, the way the strings move around it and then the metal/rock parts. Have a modern listen to it
Yep, you nailed it. And once again, that's the Mike Post/Pete Carpenter magic! It's totally on my list; what a formative show for me. That'll be fun to break down. Cheers!
Surely the greatest theme tune ever is "The Champions"!?
That is very obscure, and very cool. Never heard of the show! This sounds really amazing. I'll research it and add to the list. Cheers!
@palebluedotstudios appreciate you taking the time to reply Sir!👌🏻

What's "White on White"?? Rockford Files is definitely going to get covered..
Wrong version? Curious what you mean?
@@palebluedotstudios Lance White.
@@palebluedotstudios The version that was used in all episodes from S2 Ep eh 10 until the end. What you played was the edit of the siingle from 1975. Top 10. Single
Rockford Files is my personal favorite, but Sanford and Son is the GOAT.
That's the second vote for Sanford (it rules), and I've had many for Rockford. Pretty clear I need to break that one down. Cheers!
The best is The Rockford Files. Cheers is excellent too.
Nice nostalgia! I, myself was always kind of partial to Vinnie Colaiutas rock hard, suggestive slap bass performance on the theme from A.L.F...
Wait: are you saying that the drummer Vinnie Colaiuta played slap bass on A.L.F. ?!??
@palebluedotstudios Perhaps he’s saying that Colaiuta slapped the bass player. 😁
@@victoza9232 Good move, Vinnie 😂
Always loved the Magnum theme. Midnight Caller and The Equalizer are a couple of interesting 80s tunes. Midnight Caller instantly evokes a sultry late night atmosphere perfect for the show.
LOVE The Equalizer; it’s on my list (huge Stewart Copeland fan)! I don’t recall Midnight Caller…I’ll have to look it up. 80s?
@@palebluedotstudios late 80s into early 90s. th-cam.com/video/as8Elg9-J00/w-d-xo.html
Add Hawaii Five-0, Peter Gunn to the competition.
There’s been tons of requests for Hawaii Five-0! Definitely on my list now. Of course I love that theme, but I didn’t catch much of that show when it was syndicated. And Peter Gunn…oh yes. A masterpiece! Cheers
@@palebluedotstudios There is a proper remaster of Peter Gunn on Apple Music, it's probably on Spotify too. I have had a copy of the album, CD, MP3 since I was a kid (yep, old man here) and I still love it.

Really enjoy the theory analysis of classic tunes like this banger. Good stuff. Cheers
Thanks so much! Amazing! Means a lot. Took me awhile to push this one out, and I'm glad it's connecting. More to come! Cheers.
I love this theme but the first price goes to Baretta's theme. "Keep your eye on the sparrow" with Sammy Davis jr. Such atmosphere and so many things going on that still finds it's own place perfectly. th-cam.com/video/Jes-iZzy_Tk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=imaABhzpGL0xyfKB
