This is one of the very best versions I have seen in here on TH-cam. Now I also have to try to make an approximate version. A thousand teeth for sharing your amazing qualities and ideas with us. Best regards Arve Herman Tangen
This is probably the best portable stove I've seen. I've been trying to find a no weld diy stove and your's is by far the simple yet functional stove for those of us with limited access to welders and other fancy tools.
I came here looking for a more rough and ready camp version..... but stayed 'cos this looks perfect for a shed, or summerhouse. Love the idea for the legs, adds style.
I been using mine since I seen your video for my 2nd year and it works great in my 11 foot camper when it was 20 degrees below Im sweating inside I just vent my exhaust through the roof vent and place my wood stove on a piece of plywood that extends and clamped on my counter top works so great my buddies want me to build them one for their motorhomes and 5th wheels. Its been safe as long as you crack a window a little to keep the fresh air going. that little thing is the best thing on the planet it conserves wood and will heat my camper dang near all night turned down saves on propane too. Thanks for the Idea to bad you don't sell them
I have a few ammo cans sitting around, as I am into guns as a hobby. I also just finished college in electro mechanics & maintenance mechanics. I have the tools, and materials to do this project. GREAT VIDEO!!
You refined it, looks great. Just a note to others using the hole saw, cut at slower speed in metal, it will cut better and not overheat and ruin the saw teeth.
@@leavenotrace8890 Yes I have built many of these boxes with minimal tools. If you have any questions just ask...there are a few very important things to address for safety. great idea, especially for someone without a welder! steel drilling bits would be better. they cost more but it takes a lot less effort to punch through and you’ll have a cleaner hole.
Sweet, sweet, build. Such neat craftsmanship! Can you comment on the latest titanium flue, chimney (pipe, but not really pipe, lol) folks are using now? Can’t beat the advantages IMO. Light, stowable!! Thanks for your vids, outings, knowledge, and most of all, sharing. Happy holidays bro!!
Yeah of course there is nothing that beats the foldable titanium stoves for hiking if you have the money and think its worth the prize. Im pretty curious how that titanium foil holds up in the long run though. Im sure there are some drawbacks. thanks and atb!
Swedwoods Oh, I’d love a titanium stove, too. Actually, I’m referring to the entire stove pipe made out of titanium. 1 meter, 2 meter etc. just folds up to a tube. Like folding up a poster. You just unroll it and it expands to a round shape. Liteoutdoors.com sells the titanium sheets however long you want. They also have examples of them on their site. Hope this helps.

Awesome. However, I see a few things I'd do differently. But for a small stove for camping or cool afternoons with a pot of coffee on, it sure would be nice.
I know for a fact it work great. Scroll down at my channel and you can see all about it. But this new one is better and safer and I will use it for longer outings than the last one I only used during the day.
I built one of these ammo can stoves and it worked well for my situation. Winter camping/hunting in a small truck camper at 25 degrees F. It would heat the camper to about 70 degrees F. Bad thing is because of the size of this stove, you have to build a very small fire, thus having to tend to it every 5-10 minutes.
Yes I need to tend to it quite often but I use it to burn hard and do some cooking, get warm and dry inside the tent. Open full draft and let burn out. Prep for a burn with some birch bark and some hardwood. Go to sleep in a one season bag. Then if I get the chills in the early hours I just put a match in there and go back to sleep. This has worked fine down to -10C. Reflective ground cover is a must.
Can you please give me a rough estimate on how much square feet it will heat.. I've watched a few videos on people using ammo cans and yours is the best design and best looking.. turned out looking like something that was bought not built
The coat hook legs really set this stove off. Watching other videos it seems you have modified it slightly. Did you include a baffle in the second build?
there are a few minor process changes i'd personally make. the first would be to media blast the paint instead of sanding, the second, would be welding the top and chimney outlet together. I know this is the way to do it without, but it is an ugly and unnecessary part. it does look really good though and the test video was great.
Too hard for me. Don't have the tools. Wish I could just buy one from you. I love your stove. The video where you make pizza in it made me subcribe. Bravo!
stainelss steel rivets. Very important. Didnt know how it was going to work so I put a stainless rivet on a piece of metal and threw it in the fire in my kitchen stove....It was red hot but still held on tight and hard
V.2 has been a much better design both aesthetically I.e. paint, self tapped screws, log grill tray, and functionally , I.e 4 legs(safer from tip over), cleaner flue bracing to box. Good job.
Thanks! yes its better looking for sure. I built this in 1/3 of the time of course. But im not sure if the self tapping screws is better yet. a few of them came loose already in the second outing. just tightened them on site so no problem. but eventually a bigger dimension will be required and that would be a problem if out in the woods. I guess its the constant heating and cooling of the metal that makes them come loose. I believe the screw, bolt and washer keeps things better in place. And yes the four legs was better even though tripods is for the forest. If i dont find even ground i just push some bark, stick or stone or whatever to make it stand straight. This is not an issue really because the connection hole to the tent against the heat shield on the pipe makes the stove stand good even in high winds.
1:30 had to pause to comment. Cutting steel should be done at slow speed and high feed to avoid work hardening. Also smoke from some metal cutting lubricants can be toxic...careful!
I love that you used coat hangers for legs. Gives it a nice classic look. Looks great and sounds like it functions great with the draft.

Very nice!! I like the way you change the locking hatch and the legs. Ingenious!!!

You could also place a spark arrestor (screen) on top of the screws holding the first short flue pipe in place.
Bad place for a spark arrestor.

That’s pretty damn cool.

so between this one and the ikea one you made...which one do you like using better?
Both have their place depending on what kind of camping/hiking you do, in what season and weather.
May not need to weld, but you do need a machine shop.
yes please!
A vice, angle grinder, and drill press = machine shop? I didn't see him use any tools that were out of the ordinary or expensive....

How much? Interested
parts was like 60 bucks in sweden. But it all depends on if you can get the ammo box and the exhaust pipe extentions cheap

Reinforcement. The original weld was not enough to keep the locking bracket for the feeder door in place when closing the door when hot.

same steel as in all the rest no difference
