Almost 50 years ago I pulled a 57' Chevy wagon out of a junkyard. It was a bit rusty, needed new rockers and support for the front seat. Also needed a new engine since the old six was toast. Put a 283 in it. The frame at the rear spring mount rotted out at one point and had to be repaired, but not well. I finally pulled the engine out and sold it. It was fun while I owned it and it remains my favorite car.
Summit Racing is the best place to get parts. They even carry stock parts for your daily drivers. They nearly always have your parts in stock and ready to ship. I live in the Cleveland area and they will have the part at my house faster than Amazon and at a similar price.
Your in good hands where your at. With Summit, you all have everything you need to get you back home! When you get there are you going to do a full restoration? That would be sweet! Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...
All of the Chevrolet V-8 engines had the canister oil filter. The oil filter was optional on the 6 cylinder engines but most had them. The canisters weren't packed, they had cartridge filters in them.
Hey Robby, The1957 Chevy came with a 12 volt generator system. As far as the engine there were 2 real options the 235 stove bolt 6 cylinder or the 283 small block V8 which in 1957 it could be a 2bbl or a 4 bbl carburetor or in very small numbers the mechanical fuel injection. In 1955 Chevy came out with its first V8 engine it was a 265 cubic inch engine with No oil filter. In 1956 the 265 V8 got the oil filter option. In 1957 the 283 V8 came standard with the canister oil filter. Just a little Chevy history for you. I had a 1957 Chevy and I wish I still had it. My 57 Chevy was a convertible. And I cry every time I think of having to sell it. Best of luck with the new ride. So far it’s off too a Great Start.
I could only imagine what Demri is thinking 😀 How to smile when you’re losing your mind inside 😂 Demri been pointing up at the end 😂 Thanks All! Looking forward to the build!
It's actually very simple. Just lift the Radiator Cap off and drive a new '57 Chevy underneath it. Then change the radiator cap if Summit has them in stock.
Love those 57 Chevy's . I live in Upstate NY , and just past an old farm , and what did I see ? A Black 1957 Chevy just sitting there out in the weather . Crazy . Can't wait to watch this transformation . COOL ! 💪
I'm looking forward to seeing the build on this car. Just about every part for these cars are being reproduced now. They make some really sharp restomods.
If I was Summit I would have roped off an area on the showroom floor to rebuild this, the customers could watch, then go home later to look up the build online and finish up watching it. MOAR subs.
Back in January of this year, I pulled a 57 Bel-Air wagon out of the woods in nearly the same condition. This will be fun to watch. My project is now running and driving with all factory GM parts, 6 months later. You're taking a completely different route to the same goal of getting this beauty back on the road. I prefer them original, but any old car getting a new lease on life is awesome. You can get everything you want for that 2 door. These are by far the easiest cars to restore when it comes to parts availability.
Thanks for showing the stud detail. The micro-detail you showed, looks as-if the stud is porous, like it was a casted part. When I took an elective Quality-Control course, while enrolled in college, the instructor took all in attendance one evening, (night school), on a field trip, to an X-RAY lab for metallic aircraft parts, such as jet fan compressor blades. (Only time I recall seeing anything similar to what you showed).
I had a 59 Ford pickup that I used a rope and hooks from one door to the other to keep the doors from opening when I turned a corner. Such special memories
I grew up with a 1955 Chevy 210 wagon and a 1957 Bel Air sedan in our garage. We would fight over who got to ride on the rear "parcel shelf", especially fun at night to look up at the stars. This project is super cool!
A retired friend of mine has a 56 he restored it took him 5 years or so he got it done and got to drive it around a couple years before he passed away and his son now has it great video keep up the good work God bless from GA
oh yeah that's awesome and will be a great build 👍👍thanks for bringing us along we can't wait for an exciting week of tear down and rebuild...exciting...thanks for the road trip 😀 😊
I posted this comment over on Summit’s video, That shows this 57 CHEVY getting a new LS Engine put-in her. And, not only an engine, but a new transmission, and a-lot-more!!! “Summit is off-the-wall seriously-serious when it comes to their stores. Each one of their stores is without a doubt, and adult guy’s CARS 🚘 PICKUP’S 🛻 SUV’s 🚙 Disney-Land!! So-To-Speak! If, You are like me, serious about turning wrenches on the things that you own???? Then you will lose so much time on their website because it is so much fun. Almost as much fun as watching Robby-Layton-Nation, And-Company, produced-videos!! 😊”
WOW!! All I can say is .... Boy do you have your work cut out for you!! LOL!! I know this is going to be a total rebuild from the ground up. CANT WAIT TO SEE IT!!! 😄
Robby is a visionary. Each project is more ambitious than the last. Look forward to watching this build. Good thing you the Boss there this time to keep things real.
Just an hour and a half away... I will be getting a few things for my 05 Suburban there shortly... Inner and outer rockers and a few other body parts. Should I put them on the Layton Acct? LOL
Robby is so excited about this build that at one point as he's turning down the gravel road to go pick up the '57 Chevy Bel-Air he called it a Corvette! Now that shows real excitement!
for a second when I saw the new video in my feed I thought you found a Checker (the one used for the cab).. The chevy 57 is alright.. but a checker is pretty damn cool...
You guys have all the fun. What a great project. Summit Racing is the right place to do the transformation. I did subscribe to their TH-cam channel. Please say "hello" to Tim Duffy at Summit for me.
That Summit guy is full of hot air! That OEM oil filter holds a replaceable filter element (pleated paper, just like a spin-on). It's not packed full of nonsense like he claimed!
Just gotta say, as one daddy of girls to another, seeing you do so much work for your daughters bike, it was so awesome! Also, I need a price to hang out with Hillbilly for one drink if I ever get out that far west!
Speaking of ceramic coating the windshield, that avalon king stuff is like rainx on steroids. I even use it on the inside of my windows to keep the ferret smudges off
Ugh... this is the first Robby Layton video that actually repulsed me. Thanks for the 22 minute Summit commercial. Whore is a bad color on you pal. And as for the Summit salesman... that guy needs to calm the hell down! Every word sounded like excerpts from a Summit catalog. It was repellant. Be honest y'all, I can't be the only one disgusted by this video.
I'm working on a 57 210 that's had the belair trim put on it and the rust repairs that were done was way worse then yours. I'm replacing the full front and truck floor pans.
I really love it when everyone is talking about this and that and in the background, the boss is rolling her eyes up so far all you can see are the whites! 🤣
I always wanted a two door 1957 Chevy Bel Air growing up . But I never hit the mark . I had a 57 chevy pickup truck , 1939 chevy pickup truck , 1964 chevy 1,1/2 ton flatbed . 1959 GMC pickup truck . 1971 Pontiac firebird .1967 Chrylser station wagon . BUT I still have my 1953 Chevy 5 window pickup truck . I call her the Old Lady .
The long term plan for this classic Chevy should be a complete frame off restoration and rebuild, not a quick and dirty attempt just to get it on the road. BTW I really dig the Corvette it was parked next to.
Good morning I am looking forward to the upcoming videos on this car. I know they will definitely be a lot of fun and the road trip will be an interesting one for sure.

Look at our old girl getting a new life. We believe in you Robby & Team 😅 also, Hillbilly tasting the oil made me laugh out loud. He's hilarious
Derrick on Vice grip Garage taste the oil on every old car to see if there is gas or water in the oil
He’s an odd duck some times but he loves tasting oil’s!!
Amazing that you can still find rescues like this. I'm surprised they waited so long to sell it.
I’m pretty sure @VGG has shed a few tears by now. Lol tears of pride.

Welcome to Tallmadge! We love our Summit Racing!
You never cease to amaze me. Everything looks better on camera or 50 - 100 feet away. I trust this build will be the best.
Summin could NOT have selected a better channel to sponsor. Much respect @SummitRacing

Please fully restore this beautiful car it deserves it 🙏
I'm looking forward to seeing the build on this car. Just about every part for these cars are being reproduced now. They make some really sharp restomods.

I have used Summit racing stuff off and on many times over the years, always had good luck with them
I’m a little old man and I approve of this build. A cross-country trip is ambitious, but the smile on your charming bride’s face says “you got this”.
Love you guys! You were about a mile away from me picking up the car. So can't wait to see what you do with this car.
OMG. The look on the bosses face when under the car. This wasn’t in the wedding vows ! 😂. Good luck guys 👍

Forget the license plates, road signs are the best for floor repair 😂
I heard that signs blown over by the wind in construction zones are free for the taking.
Especially those pesky speed limit signs!
Real stop sign runner
One of dad's buddies used a metal realtors sign as a floor board in a 1967 MGB.
If you need a whole new floor pan, there's conveniently huge signs on most highways too! It just takes climbing.
You are so lucky to be right there my 1968 El Camino was built with many many parts from summit racing
AWESOME I LOVE SUMMIT!!! They helped me out when i was building my hot rod and a i'm in Canada!
So AWESOME!! Im excited for you guys, what a experience, & you guys deserve it!!!👍👍💪
It’s cool seeing you guys in my neck of the woods. I live just down the road from Seville.
Aww, good on Hillbilly saving that little frog friend! Good luck on the build and trip!
I had a 59 Ford pickup that I used a rope and hooks from one door to the other to keep the doors from opening when I turned a corner. Such special memories
This should be fun! Summit's helper is going to make the video awesome,
Can't wait to see it. Let me know when you are heading through Iowa, would love to meet up and see the car and meet the team.
Cannot wait to see the warehouse of parts.
I had a 57 and that large open space behind the grill was our beer cooler in winter.
I grew up with a 1955 Chevy 210 wagon and a 1957 Bel Air sedan in our garage. We would fight over who got to ride on the rear "parcel shelf", especially fun at night to look up at the stars. This project is super cool!

I’m only an hour away from summit racing, cool to see you guys up in this area! Would be awesome to meet you guys!
Amazing you guys got a special treat to be able to have it inside working on it love the summit sponsorship
make sure you wander over to Mogador . there's a pretty neat 'balloon' over there
I'm excited to see how this build turns out!
Good luck, your gonna need it!
oh yeah that's awesome and will be a great build 👍👍thanks for bringing us along we can't wait for an exciting week of tear down and rebuild...exciting...thanks for the road trip 😀 😊
Congratulations on the incredible discovery!
This " i think" will be an adventure for the books for sure!👍🏆
I can't wait to tune in for the next episode...😬🙉😉 ☕🐢
Dimeri is adorable when she smiles or laughs I've bought many parts ftom summit racing from Tallmadge ohio

Robby is a visionary. Each project is more ambitious than the last. Look forward to watching this build. Good thing you the Boss there this time to keep things real.
My poor 57 has been mid restoration for years. You have to drive right by my house off the toll road. Wish you could stop and see mine
Just an hour and a half away... I will be getting a few things for my 05 Suburban there shortly... Inner and outer rockers and a few other body parts. Should I put them on the Layton Acct? LOL

Even talking about it, let’s do it !!! I hope summit racing is going to do a video of the weeks work on the car, that’s what I want to see.👍

A trip to Summit Racing with a 57 Chevy and a deep pockets platinum card 😊oh hell yeah 😂❤
I just tracked my last flight with the OnX app too! Loved seeing 427 mph., LOL!
Youll be driving spitting distance from my house as you go thru northern Indiana. Cant wait to see the rest of this
If you drive through St. Louis, please let me know. Would love to see/meet you all and see the car. Thank you for all the entertainment!
Oh no here we go with another only one way back home adventure 😂😂😂 I love it...
i am 57 model myself. so im extra interested in this epi. thanks guys
I am so mad. You were right by my house and I did not know it. I would have loved to see you guys. Take care. Love you guys
Robbie!!!! Tell hillbilly I said hey
Robbie, if you have trouble in eastern Nebraska heading home, happy to help or give you a place for work/repairs.
Just gotta say, as one daddy of girls to another, seeing you do so much work for your daughters bike, it was so awesome! Also, I need a price to hang out with Hillbilly for one drink if I ever get out that far west!
It’s a 12v 9010 generator.
So many parts I want. Especially the seat frames and engine brackets.
That 57 is beautiful can't wait to see what you do with it
Wait..... There's got to be at least 3 maybe 4 Bud’s. He's everywhere! Either he's been cloned or can teleport.
So...more a Summit commercial than a build. I already know Summit has the parts I need..Getting them for free is what I haven't been able to do😆
Omg your going to be driving almost right by my house!!! In Indiana!! It would be so cool to meet you
That's a heck of a rig! Can't wait to see this build 💪 thanks for sharing guys!
When hillbilly was clipping his phone on his pocket I thought for sure he was insead putting the frog in his pocket lol
That’s exactly the first thing I thought.
Speaking of ceramic coating the windshield, that avalon king stuff is like rainx on steroids. I even use it on the inside of my windows to keep the ferret smudges off
The Perfect Trio ❤❤❤ Robbie, Boss and Hilarious Hillbilly 💙💙💙
Good Luck! Eddie
I have been looking forward to this build since you bought it
What in tarnation? Robby Layton has become, along with the team, professional edutainers. You’ve always worked for perfection.
Amazing how good the chrome looks on old cars after all the years. Todays chrome bubbles and cracks after Just a few years.
I would love to see this go across the country. Derek @vicegripgarage would be proud.
Can't wait to see the end result this is one of my favorite old cars.
You need that boat in the background for a lake near you!
How cool to be working with Summit Racing! So pumped to see this build! 💪 This is the real deal!
Ugh... this is the first Robby Layton video that actually repulsed me. Thanks for the 22 minute Summit commercial. Whore is a bad color on you pal. And as for the Summit salesman... that guy needs to calm the hell down! Every word sounded like excerpts from a Summit catalog. It was repellant. My uncle had the same car but in black! Brings back so many memories!
What an Icon! Great project! She wants to live!
This is going to be an interesting one! Can't wait to see the finished product
Bel air !!! Mom had one. will be nice see the build
Yes! License plate floor boards! VGG inspired.
I'm working on a 57 210 that's had the belair trim put on it and the rust repairs that were done was way worse then yours. I'm replacing the full front and truck floor pans.
Wish i would have known you guys was so close im an hour away from summit an i have actually known tyler for years
What do you part about it is? I'm an hour away from Cleveland and ammonia an hour and a 1/2 away from town Where summer racing is 😂 bur love ur videos
I love Robby's glass is always full , No matter how much water is missing
I am looking forward to this build! This is my dream car
I really love it when everyone is talking about this and that and in the background, the boss is rolling her eyes up so far all you can see are the whites! 🤣
This reminds me of an old Roadkill episode --- let's build a wreck in Summits' car park, make it drive & get home!!
55 was the only year a small block didn't have an oil filter. Late 55 had dealer installed filter.
The Boss is such an adorable young lady
round the headlight vents always amazed me on my bros 7
