The lone soldier phenomenon reminds me of my own year in Israel, as a studentit bodedah, a lone student! Of course, it's not the grueling schedule of a soldier, but as an American student at Hebrew U, I chose to take almost all my courses with Israelis on the general campus then, Givat Ram, throwing myself into the pool of Hebrew. A Jewish education in the States is not living the language as you do in a political philosophy class, with Israelis. I had no relatives in Israel and roomed mostly with Israelis and a Swiss girl. I was extremely bodedah - lone and lonely. But! My father sent me a check for $100 every month, and when the kupah wouldn't clear it for 10 days, I was almost in tears. 19 and alone, I somehow became fluent in Israeli Hebrew. In 1971 there was no easy way to phone my family. I was on my own. Letters one way took a week. I also had enrolled in the Rubin Music Academy and took part in a wide array of music classes and a performance conducted by Daniel Barenboim. I did marvelous things, Yerushalayim was fascinating - but always in a setting of boddedut, loneliness. The lone soldiers are connected to Israelis, which would have been a solution for me, if it had existed 50 years ago.
IMHO , the IDF should assign a colonel ( or even a brigadier general ) to the task of lone soldier welfare , along with the staff that would help in the soldiers transition from armed forces to civilian life .Even the fate of lone soldiers returning to the land of their birth presents challenges , as some former IDF ( lone ) soldiers might face discrimination either at the work place or further education , so the local Israeli embassy should have a professional councillor ready to assist
Each unit has a commander, and often an officer, in charge of welfare - a "mashakit tash". They are there to help all soldiers, and they work with the lone soldier's commanders to make sure they are taken care of.
@@UNPACKED what happens to the lone soldiers if they choose to return to the land of their birth , and their service with the IDF is revealed , exposing them to all manor of abuse ? , these are people that have put their lives on the line for Israel , surely they are not " abandoned in the field " ?
You missed out the whole concept of Ulpan. All new immigrants and lone soldiers must complete an Ulpan program which teaches Hebrew and the basics of the culture. The level of Hebrew you already have will decided how long of an Ulpan you need. The ministry of absorption also has different Ulpans for different professions. Eg if you’re going into the military you’ll also learn Army vocabulary. Same for a doctor/engineer etc.
People who in comment section calling double standard are here confusing one major thing. These lone soldiers are joining a legitimate national army. It is like french foreign legion. You can't compare it with some one going for ISIS or similar organization.
❤❤❤ My grandfather was from Ethiopia Jewish background i feel always drawn to my Jewish heritage in my heart though I m 57 years old Christian women, I will be willing to defend Israel 🇮🇱 I love Israel and her people ❤ Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦
I admire the Israeli people for their focus on each other. That's something that I don't see here in America. It seems like though you Israelis might have differences, you still care about each other. That's what makes you a strong nation. Even without outside help you all would make it because you're devoted to the well being of the person next to you. Don't worry about Hamas, they're dangerous and annoying but so are mosquitoes and flu viruses.
What are our billions from the US used for? Why must we support a rich Country… when so many thousands are starving or dying from earthquakes, and drought?

If I was to do things over again I’d totally sign up and volunteer for the IDF, sadly I’m much too old now but it sounds like a better adventure and experience for a young man than bumming around the streets of a North American city wasting their time with no purpose.
I don t wanna call them lone soldiers ..coz they see Israel as their second home.. they serve the outmost dedication.. Israel be proud of what they give not only for military service but for the love to the Jewish nation..❤️
These soldiers are heroes and this video is informative regarding difficulty and tragedy. The tone of the narrator however is as if the subject matter is a form of entertainment in generic TH-cam style which to most ears is inappropriate and ridiculous.
Each time I see this video, it tears me up. Israelis are such a beautiful people 😥. To show up for the burial of a random fallen soldier to pay respects is just so beautiful. Live long and prosper Israel 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
Some do, some don't. In Russia they have a foreign legion afaik, which you need to learn Russian for Compare that to the French foreign legion where you don't even need to speak French, and I'm pretty sure that they try and give an interview in your native language And then you've got the Spanish "foreign" legion, which you need to be Spanish or be from a former Spanish colony
When my son served over 20 years ago there were only 200 Americans in the army. A General looked after him and a few others. He tells me there are now 2000
I don’t know how “unique” it is, considering the likes of the Légion Étrangère and the Gurkhas. What’s different here is the romantic idea of coming to fight For The Cause.
While it's not uncommon (or at least wasn't in the past) to have foreign legions - the British had one too - these are units that are separate and designated for foreign soldiers. A Chayal Boded is drafted into the IDF like any other soldier and can serve in all units.
The unique (and strange) part is that army expects families to provide soldiers with services. Even the idea that soldiers can regulary visit home during service isn't normal for the majority of nations.
@@sodinc I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s because Israel is so small that it’s possible to go home regularly. And also because there’s conscription at 18 most enlisted members are 22 at the most.

I enlisted in Nov 75 and remember my time as a lone soldier with disappointment. During basic training in Golani, my base commander said I could stay for Shabbat and be added to the guard list. As an immigrant, the Jewish Agency denied extra pocket money for lone soldiers from Western countries like the US and Canada, because family and relatives could afford to can send monies. Besides, Israelis had little sympathy or understanding of why a Jew would leave a wonderful life in the West to immigrate to Israel. Today, the story is very different.

GOD BLESS THIS YOUNG PATROOTIC
PEOPLE
I wish I found about these long ago. During my younger years.
The support geared me up.

@@dovidell They can get Israeli Citizenship and stay in Israel.
Sounds like the French foreign legion for Jews.
People who in comment section calling double standard are here confusing one major thing. These lone soldiers are joining a legitimate national army. It is like french foreign legion.
You can't compare it with some one going for ISIS or similar organization.
Isreal isn't a legitimate nation it was a gift from the British who had no right to give it away.

though I m 57 years old Christian women, I will be willing to defend Israel 🇮🇱
I love Israel and her people ❤
Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦
All the Best Brother....
There was a Filipina that joined the IDF I read this on the Times of Israel incredible story
That vertically-blessed lady in the centre in 3:50... I direly need her in my life. 🙏
As soon as my daughter turns 18 years she will be ready to become an IDF lone soilder
Respect to all these brave men.
And women. There are a ton of female lone soldiers.
I am doing the lone soldier program this right now with Garin Tzabar, I draft at the end of 2024.
How do I do it? I have another citizenship though.
If I was Israeli I'd love to be the home to a lone soldier ❤️

I’m a 23 year old American Marine vet, no personal relation to Israel or anyone of Jewish descent. Is it possible for me to volunteer? I believe in the ideals and beliefs of Israel and wish to aid in their war efforts
I'm positive that you can go and join and help them and thank you for your service 🙏🙏🙏 please go and join up and help them 🙏 I stand with Israel I'm praying everyone especially the USA stands with Israel may God be with you
THis is an important program. I hope that Jews in the diasporah will support this program.
If I was to do things over again I’d totally sign up and volunteer for the IDF, sadly I’m much too old now but it sounds like a better adventure and experience for a young man than bumming around the streets of a North American city wasting their time with no purpose.
An inner calling to serve Israel.
I love and support Israel and the IDF/IAF!!! 🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱❤🙏🙏

Long live Israel and the IDF. Greetings from Miami, USA🇺🇸.
When Benny Friedman was football coach at Brandeis University, he tried to start a program lone players who had nowhere to go.
I had an obssesion to travel to israel when i was a kid to be a mossad agent.....
Needing volunteers now. In another life long ago i would have jumped to volunteer. USMC Ret.
These soldiers are heroes and this video is informative regarding difficulty and tragedy. The tone of the narrator however is as if the subject matter is a form of entertainment in generic TH-cam style which to most ears is inappropriate and ridiculous.
Im amazigh from north africa i love isreal long live isreal
💋💋
A great insight to an amazing service
I contributed to this organization.
Each time I see this video, it tears me up. Israelis are such a beautiful people 😥. To show up for the burial of a random fallen soldier to pay respects is just so beautiful. Live long and prosper Israel 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
God be with them all
Most countries don't let non citizens serve in their military.
Some do, some don't.
In Russia they have a foreign legion afaik, which you need to learn Russian for
Compare that to the French foreign legion where you don't even need to speak French, and I'm pretty sure that they try and give an interview in your native language
And then you've got the Spanish "foreign" legion, which you need to be Spanish or be from a former Spanish colony
You caught me .. I’m part of the Saar-6 class of 2017-2022
I wish I was young again because after the Army time I would have become a lone soldier
Amazing story.
All the love to these soldiers.
All 💩💩💩💩
When my son served over 20 years ago there were only 200 Americans in the army. A General looked after him and a few others. He tells me there are now 2000
56 year old stroke victim willing to volunteer
When my mom was in the IDF, she was an officer in charge of lone soldiers and was in charge of teaching them Hebrew and training them
I don’t know how “unique” it is, considering the likes of the Légion Étrangère and the Gurkhas.
Even the idea that soldiers can regulary visit home during service isn't normal for the majority of nations.
there is nothing really unique, it's Israeli propaganda to make other think they are such heroes
@@sodinc I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s because Israel is so small that it’s possible to go home regularly.
And also because there’s conscription at 18 most enlisted members are 22 at the most.
@@saritshull3909 Isn`t it the normal age of conscription everywhere?
At least I have not heard about any other ways.

I like the Hebrew name for the lone solider very catchy
I enlisted in Nov 75 and remember my time as a lone soldier with disappointment. During basic training in Golani, my base commander said I could stay for Shabbat and be added to the guard list. As an immigrant, the Jewish Agency denied extra pocket money for lone soldiers from Western countries like the US and Canada, because family and relatives could afford to can send monies. Besides, Israelis had little sympathy or understanding of why a Jew would leave a wonderful life in the West to immigrate to Israel.
Today, the story is very different.
I understand what's it's like.
Respect to Lone soldiers.
God is with you brothers ❤️🇮🇱
Sounds like something I would be interested in! If I was younger!
God bless these soldier for these soldiers and their great service to Israel.🙏♥️🇱🇷🇮🇱
