  • Pushover based seismic fragility curves is demonstrated in this video, Fragility curve median is estimated from pushover bilinear curve. Standard deviation is taken from Hazus technical manual. Four seismic damage states have been considered for fragility analysis.

I'm a bit confused with the modal participation factor while calculating spectral displacement, usually, the modal participation factor is unit less right ? modal participation factor = ( phi 1*mass* identity matrix)/(phi 1 ' x mass * phi1) ?

@1:35 So you mean to say that if a structure fails to have this criterion (85%-90% mass participation at first mode), this technique of fragility curve analysis from Pushover Data is not applicable Sir?

sir, thanq for the detailed explanation about the CSM method of obtaining fragility curve. now my doubt is how to convert the curve in terms of PGA instead of Sd(spectral displacement)

hello , did you get the answer on how to obtain fragility using CSM ?

Dear sir, Is the process shown in the video is equally applicable to RC arch bridge for development of fragility curve ?

I was not worked with bridges. not sure. But, I think only difference is the hinge properties. Because, loads are of different category

Dear Sir, thank you for sharing this video. I think that "Du" can't be the performance point ("Du" should be larger than that. Maybe correspond to the 20% reduction of the maximum strength). Also, the values of Sd should be changed also in the final table from 0.068 to more small values when studying another damage state. All the Best

Hi professor, NORMDIST doesnt work this way anymore on excel, its asking for NORMDIST(x,mean, standard deviation, cumulative) do you know what are the entries in this case? I did the same table as what you explained, however, sadly I cannot proceed for the probability exceedence, can you assist please

Please sir, I am trying to develop fragility curves of a building frame subjected to lateral wind load. I have a pushover analysis curve but how to generate the fragility curves is my biggest challenge. Kindly suggest any useful material that can help me. Regards.

I know about seismic fragility curves. To plot any fragility curves, two parameters are required, median and standard deviation. If you could able to obtain it from the literature, then it's simple. Also, definition of damage states under wind loading, is different.

Hello sir, can you explain where the equation "P(Ds/Sd) = θ ((Ln (Sd) - Ln λ) / β))" comes from?
I didn't find it in Hazus

its the standard equation for the load log-normal probability distribution function used to denote the "load" in a fragility function

Some thing is wrong. Check the assigned loads. Have you define mass sources? Pl check it. Check the correctness of the model also, in Etabs
