Haha! "Oh, that's the legend guy!" Seconds later, confirms legend status. Minutes later, demonstrates and cements legend status forever.

That end scene in the church is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series!

Same "hell it was you 1st sgt (you were there for easy company)" something like that, that whole part brings me to tears lol. Idky but i think lipton is nearly as heroic as spears in dif ways, but he didnt see himself as that guy, idk something about spears leadership, its like he gave him a piece of his confidence & its just an amazing scene to me cuz they are just such great characters in this episode.

This has gotta be my fav episode. I love winters but watching Donnie Walberg's sgt lipton & lieutenant spears are so epic. I love the dialogue & narration

fun fact. winters only picked Spears to take over the attack because he was the closest officer to him! turned out to be a great decision but was completely coincidence

That scene is so well executed too how winters is almost disrespectful to his uppers in his aggressive quick manner. I just love it lol such amazing acting

@@Gruvmpy i can see that. A testament to the actor portaying Winters. Which is what i'm basing this judgement on lol

I can sort of relate to Winters. Watching your old team you used to be in charge of struggle and you know you can do something right now to help them is torture. But in your current position all you can do is grab a subordinate and tell them to help them, when you know you can do it 10x faster and easier.

Something to keep in mind about this series is that it is based on a book that is -- itself -- based on the memories and experiences of the men. If they didn't know something, or if their memories were tainted by emotion, the story told by the series ends up not being as accurate as it could be.
I say this because I wanted to comment on the portrayal of Lieutenant Norman Dike. In this episode, he is portrayed as a completely incompetent officer, and a total coward, with his incompetence and cowardice causing many Easy Company men to be killed or wounded. He wasn't liked nor was he respected by the men of the company. In real life, while not as skilled a commander as Winters or Spiers, he wasn't as incompetent as he's being portrayed. Neither was he a coward -- prior to leading E-Company, he had been awarded two medals for valor, one of which was for rescuing wounded men while under fire.
During the attack on Foy he is portrayed as falling apart under pressure. The truth is, Dike was shot twice in the chest early on in the attack and he was rapidly losing blood. The heavy winter gear he was wearing during the attack kept anyone from seeing this or knowing the man was wounded until he had been evacuated to a field hospital. He came very close to dying of blood loss. The reason he started giving odd, contradictory orders was that he was on the verge of unconsciousness due to blood loss.
The men of Easy Company knew nothing of this. All they saw was a man they hated have a breakdown on the battlefield, and chalked it up to that incompetent, cowardly asshole Dike being an incompetent, cowardly asshole. Again, he wasn't as skilled commander as Winters, nor even as competent as Spiers. But he wasn't the joke he was portrayed here. He's portrayed like this because that is how the men remembered him.

He is portrayed here as socially awkward, which if true, would have made it very difficult for him to connect with the men. That seems to be what differentiates him from Lt. Peacock (who got sent home in Nixon’s place to cheerlead the war effort), who also was not the most adept combat leader, but seemed genuinely liked by the men.

Call of Duty United Offensive had that town as one of its maps. It had the roof sniper, the church, the roof that got mortared and more. I spent hundreds of hours playing on a server that had that as a 24 hour map.

I feel like Wahlberg is underrated as an actor. Lipton so done so beautifully.

three remaining episodes, what a great series, one of the best of 20th century. I recommend you 'Deadwood' (2004-2006), a TV series from HBO, three seasons and a movie made
recently (2019). Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, Deadwood and The Wire, still the best TV series of all times, from the greatest time of HBO.

Actually, most of the German transport was horse-drawn. It was adequate earlier on against unprepared opponents (blitzkrieg into France). Later on was a major shortcoming. The allies' US-made 6x6 deuce-and-a-half truck was one of the war-winning pieces of equipment. Thousands were sent to the Russians, who considered them the most useful help they got.

I suggest reading the book 'Beyond Band of Brothers' by Dick Winters. It has more details and extra battles that weren't in the series. It also clears up a lot of unanswered questions.

I can attest that it is a wonderful completion to the series as Winters wrote it after the series aired. He talks about the people he was quartered with in England before D-Day (very touching) and ads detail about capt. Sobel (as bad as the series portrays him to be).

@@andreraymond6860 Everyone hated Sobel but plenty admitted that without his training they probably wouldn't have survived. IIRC correctly Sobel tried to kill himself but ended up just blinding himself.

Like the veterans have said, worst part isn't stabbing enemy in the eye to win, worst part is seeing your friends blown to pieces.

The reason LtCol Speirs is considered to this day as one of the most badass soldiers in the United States Army is because he truly believed he was already dead and to worry about it hindered him as a soldier which is why he did what he did like climb out of a trench under fire to single handedly take a artillery position to well this he also fought in the Korean War and served during the cold war he also admitted to shooting his own sergeant as he was drunk and pointed his title at speirs so speirs shot him in self defense he stated none of his guys cared as the sergeant was a replacement and was willing to risk the lives of his whole platoon as he was drunk and disobeying orders the P.O.Ws was never confirmed

This episode isn't particularly fair to Norman Dike. It's true that neither Richard Winters nor Carver Lipton had any use for him so that's kind of the track that this episode takes. The truth is a bit more complicated. Dike was a combat veteran who had been wounded during Operation Market Garden and who had been decorated for his actions during that campaign. Also, during the assault on Foy, he was hit during the opening attack and went into shock, although apparently nobody involved in the attack noticed it. The theory that I've heard for his behavior as Easy Company commander was that he was suffering from PSTD from the Market Garden campaign but we'll never really know.
