This video would have been very useful to me a couple of months ago when I was trying to repair a Japanese Model 1 Mega-CD. I ultimately managed it but had to pickup various bits and pieces of info from multiple videos on YT that were not so easy to find. The CD drive is definitely the most finicky part of the system. I had issues with the belt, the limit switches, the laser, etc. Thankfully, it is now working reliably.
Follow up to previous post. On my device, it wasn't the lift cam or gearbox. It was the housing that secured everything to the metal frame. I assumed it was dropped.
My model is slightly different (Japanese model 1) and I can't access the gear. The motor also does not respond to power. Any suggestions on how to remove the tray?
Thanks for this video. I am having issues with my mega cd clicking after I changed the belt. I suspect it has to do with it trying lift the laser and it not completing that for some reason.
Do you have a video of how the gears go back? That would be very helpful as trying to get the bugger back in and tray installed correctly. I have left the Helix screw so the Laser is down, but what position does the top Gear go 🙂
I got most of the way done then got distracted with other projects and items people email me about every day :P Ill revisit it later though and happy to send you the file if you wanna take a shot!
@@kwakwak the wonderful person @RetroGameRevival finished the 3D mode for the gear. We are working together for some small improvements on it as well. See here: www.printables.com/model/367421-sega-mega-cd-mk1-helix-drive-gear

Biggest issue I had was the tray loading cam and gear syncing. When the cam mounts break. I was doomed.

I have a bunch of videos on SCD tray mech, I'd check my playlist for it and see if it doesnt answer your Qs :)
Hi I have a sega cd have eject problem. I would like to test it without connect sega genesis same as your video. But how to get the power?
How much voltage do you send to the tray motor?
How do you put the tray back in
Did you ever come up with a file to 3D print the lift gear? Much appreciated.

@@SegasonicfanDesigns I haven't touched 3D modeling but I'd definitely be interested in buying a lift gear if/when you finish it. :)
