Has there been a wave of accountability? Maybe I've forgotten or not heard about them but it strikes me as there being some long coming actions and rulings but where have there been big penalties actually imposed? Probably because someone needed to spearhead it. It's one thing to have ideas. It's another to be able to rally people and help them organize to do the thing. Louis, you did not fail. You got many people like myself to repair my own stuff. From my old MacBook Air to my radio. Louis, you are doing great. Just keep at it.
Suggestions: Create a browser plug-in that links to the database and any time someone is researching a company they can immediately be notified of the companies shady practices directly in their browser. Create LLM connected to the database so people can chat with the info. Could also add a “create legal complaint” feature ect. Lots of options. Create an email list newsletter with current activity and stories delivered once a week. There’s a AI newsletter generator that can get 60% read through. I can’t recall the name. These will all create momentum and real power against the enshittification.
Sadly, more often than we'd like, not only do people tend to not-care until it directly affects them, once the issue is resolved (or at least they *think* it is resolved), they tend to have short memories and go right back to not-caring once again. Best to you, Mr. Rossmann.

@@dh2032 i have no idea what you said, however my interpretation of it is that what youre talking about is that consumers forcing companies to change the very way to profit off of consumers into a far less toxic and invasive way is the equivalent of burning bridges, and that employed people are sheep following a herd..? overall, its clear you are either not good at speaking english or are actually a child, but to answer your uh.. whatever it is: no company should not be allowed to profit off of mass collecting any and all identifying/personal information of every human on earth, no company should be allowed to profit off of scamming their customers and taking away their rights as human beings, no company should be allowed to profit off of slowly micromanaging any and all profit gain to the point it slowly destroys the framework of society, no company should be allowed to profit off of the misery and deaths of humanity. is it not that simple..?

Awesome! Needed worldwide. 20 years ago, i had the idea to build a platform here in Germany, that lists and archives every company's terms of services and shows the key points in easy to read format. I think this is great, I will look into contributing what I can even as busy as I am now. Getting a complete wiki is a great first step towards foundational public knowledge, and I look forward to learning more as this is an area I know absolutely nothing about. Thank you
This seems huge, especially from the point of being a really easy hub for information for activists! I have a question, though, which is - is this going to cover general principles and techniques that businesses use and apply worldwide? Or is it going to be specifically tied to current US law? The reason for asking is that the technical details of consumer protections are quite different in, for example EU countries. An example of this is that in the EU, there is no equivalent to the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act and companies can invalidate warranties for any reason they feel like, _but_ consumers have a set of "statutory rights" that are separate to the warranty and that the company has to honor.
Still they are trying to Talk their way out of it and are playing on time. And the moment the warranty goes from "the manufacturer has to prove it's not a production failure " to the consumer needs to prove it's not his fault, the manufacture will find something. In the EU the "warranty voided if broken-seal " is still legal
@@mammutMK2 Oh absolutely, companies of course try and weasel out of it, but the methods by which they do and the specific details of what they are and aren't required to do are different in subtle but often important ways

Back then there were only 2 suppliers for a city as big as Seattle and we didn't have the Internet. I got my first transistor radio in 1970 and I was excited about it. I ended up getting 2 degrees in "radio/TV repair". Well actually the second one was electronic service technician. Same place, same building with just a name change. One thing I can say: As a blower of whistles, this is both extremely frustrating, but also vindicating to see. As, I've been doing this for 15+ years. And the amount of people that are all "Nobody cares!" followed by a "Hey, hey! Why are you still caring? I told you last week that I don't care!" and so on and so forth, have really ground into my psyche. But, to then have those *same* people come crawling to me all "Omg! The things you said were true... are true! I never thought the leopards would eat MY face!" are just... You are more patient than me for actually helping those people. Though, ironically: There has been *a lot* of those people around now that maga have fafod.
I'm rooting for you! Hopefully we get to see ownership return to form.
I'm loving this wave of accountability thats been hitting companies in the past year
Boing 😊 Nestle 😊
Me too.
What accountability? They’ll be running the country soon. They haven’t been held accountable at all
Has there been a wave of accountability? Maybe I've forgotten or not heard about them but it strikes me as there being some long coming actions and rulings but where have there been big penalties actually imposed? Any of the cases brought by Lina Kahn and the FDC is just going to be overturned. The SEC just hit Musk with a suit but Trump's appointment won't do anything to him. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't see anything more than a puddle.
It’s far from enough, when all they get is a slap on the wrist
This is one initiative that is so good that people will say later, "How come we didn't think of it before?"
they did its called the BBB as a business you pay them a fee and they pretend to help consumers! and by paying a fee it makes your business seem legit! but thats old school now its all paid for good reviews!
I"m already thinking this now. Duh!
There's no money in it, in fact it costs you money to run it. It's not rocket science. I'm sure lots of people have _thought_ about it before.
Probably because someone needed to spearhead it. It's one thing to have ideas. It's another to be able to rally people and help them organize to do the thing. One of the unspoken downsides of social media is that all the energy that could be used for doing is now used for talking. I feel like we've collectively forgotten how to take action, which is why this is so refreshing.
When it comes to appliances, the Right to Repair Act is useless because manufacturers are avoiding it in every way possible. I've been in the industry for 40 years and have never seen so much corruption.
Definitely make a page about that on there or something. If we know their tricks then it’s harder for them to scam us.
You are 100% correct. We need to come together as consumers and protect ourselves because the government can, but won't.
No accounts? Moderation team paid by you? No ads to cope with costs?
Allright, I appreciate the spirit. Good luck!
Moderation team are getting paid just as much as I am for moderating and cosplaying as a sysadmin; NOTHING!
This has no donation button, no advertising, no sponsors, and no path to generating revenue. Therefore, no money to pay people. This is purely driven by people who are sick and tired of being fucked over and ripped off. I rely on people being driven by that energy rather than driven by a paycheck to contribute to this.
People will email me stories they want me to cover, but that makes me a gatekeeper. If this becomes popular and anyone can contribute without even having to make an account, and the facts are checked by a team of dedicated people that removes me as the gatekeeper from people having their stories told. When some random dude makes a website, it's a random dude making a website, but if a website that has existed for 15 years with incredibly high page rank from a 2 million subscriber TH-camr makes a site that is regularly promoted, that means their stories get to get told without having to wait for me to respond to an email or deem it worthy of a TH-cam video. I want to take the reputation that this channel and this website and this company and everything I've been doing has generated over time and allow anybody to utilize my platform to tell authoritative stories of consumer fuckery as long as they meet the guidelines and can cite their sources, dot their eyes, Cross their teas and meet the community guidelines and requirements for inclusion, meaning you have to have your sources cited very well.
I must be dreaming.
@@rossmanngroup But Louis, it is a fair question, how are you going to cope with costs when this thing grows?

It was word of the year! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification
You have not failed. You didn't quit and still working on making things right and also inspire people to do the same.
In this era of controlling internet information, making this external source of informing each other is a huge, amazing undertaking. Please do! It's a wonderful project!
With people such as Lina Khan, who have been able to stand up for the American consumer, getting wiped away by corporate bureaucracy, it's more important than ever for us to work together and demand better. I stand behind you and all the other cadre.
You have single-handedly changed my whole perspective on lobbying. It shouldn’t be considered radical to demand basic respect at this point from these damn companies! Take care.
I pledge my support to House Rossmann, sir

As web/net/db programmer from more than 20 years I will be glad to help with the project, I just have two outstanding issues, namely:
1. I am not US citizen and not sure if the project would be beneficial to people outside US.
2. Unfortunately I am currently unemployed from several months and my financial situation is, to put it mildly - terrible...I literraly struggle to paid my bills and groceries. When that change, I will be more than happy to help pro-bono.
P.S.: I've got exactly the same cat, just a little bit bigger named Sheer Khan and he said hi to mr. Clinton :)
It will help worldwide.
Same, also got knowledge of flutter and dart (good for all platforms) and got a basic app set up that could be turned into it
I hope people like you succeed in two things: a) change the fact that companies hasn't been accountable for their mistakes; b) change the mindset of those people who are used to be screwed up by companies and even trying to defend them.
I am tired of being the unpaid guineapig. Thank you for giving some power back to the people. These companies need to realize they don’t exist without us.

Good job, Louis! No longer angry man yells from chair. Now angry man is getting up from his chair and doing something about it!
I feel that you are the perfect person to do this and that many people will join in. Hopefully we can expand this, get people on board, and get something done about these terrible practices!
He’a been doing something about it for years now. He’s even testified in front of congress.
@@rockjockchick I know, I was just joking.
I'm not an american but I'm joining this with you all. Everyone will benefit from this positive change.
Louis, you did not fail. You got many people like myself to repair my own stuff. From my old MacBook Air to my radio. Louis, you are doing great. Just keep at it.
The manufacturers are hot with counter measures, so I guess he is on the right way and they are getting worried.
Thank you, Louis. Really hope something good comes of this, not just for US citizens, but also the rest of the world.
Suggestions:
Create a browser plug-in that links to the database and any time someone is researching a company they can immediately be notified of the companies shady practices directly in their browser.
Rossmann.
Thanks

You're one of my heroes. The list is mostly people who provide high quality informational content for free.

Louis, did you see that Biden signed a new rule about the distribution of AI? One of the complaints I heard about this new rule was that it would stifle advances in cloud computing. All I could think was "Why is that a bad thing?" I just remember all of the little TOS changes like Adobe made that take away ownership of not only the product, but the things created by the product. I truly appreciate the work you do, and the information that you share. I share it with my family and friends to help them make informed choices on what they buy and use. Informed consent isn't just for the bedroom. I will be all over this wiki, sharing, reading, adding if possible.

Each of us has to do our part as individuals. Thanks, man. You give a bit of hope. We need to take our power back as consumers.
I never write comments, but you are a real-life hero. Thank you.
I would love to see a push towards businesses having to be opt-in for their privacy invading profit schemes over hidden opt-out bullshit that they constantly move the settings for or "rename" the button so that everybody gets opted in after an update.

@@dh2032 i have no idea what you said, however my interpretation of it is that what youre talking about is that consumers forcing companies to change the very way to profit off of consumers into a far less toxic and invasive way is the equivalent of burning bridges, and that employed people are sheep following a herd..?
overall, its clear you are either not good at speaking english or are actually a child, but to answer your uh.. whatever it is:
no company should not be allowed to profit off of mass collecting any and all identifying/personal information of every human on earth, no company should be allowed to profit off of scamming their customers and taking away their rights as human beings, no company should be allowed to profit off of slowly micromanaging any and all profit gain to the point it slowly destroys the framework of society, no company should be allowed to profit off of the misery and deaths of humanity. is it not that simple..?

Thanks for investing your time into something important. I hope many will follow.
I think this is great, I will look into contributing what I can even as busy as I am now. Getting a complete wiki is a great first step towards foundational public knowledge, and I look forward to learning more as this is an area I know absolutely nothing about. Thank you
You might be one of the realest creators on the platform, love listening to your vids
Whenever, whenever, as Shakira would have said.

If you think parts are difficult to get now you should have been around in the 70's.
And TV tubes at your local store had dried up.
