It can take months to make fabric using indigenous techniques but the beauty of handmade items is worth the wait. What are your thoughts on preserving these traditional weaving styles?
National Geographic I think it is important to preserve tradition
Am I missing a link to buy from them? I even googled, but oh my at the spam sites!! Please provide a link, I want to purchase their beautiful items. ✌💜😊
What weaving techniques are you talking about? I’m from Guate and my family is Mayan and there are definitely more than 23 people that can do that?
I think a video that's only a few minutes long for such a detailed process is a travesty.
I think that the traditional style are remarkably beautiful. It should be taught in sewing classes. I would love to learn this art. 😍
What and interesting method of weaving. Glad this tradition is well preserved. Those are some really vibrant colors indeed! Thanks for sharing National Geographic.
Their culture is amazing!

If anyone is interested, the people of San Juan la Laguna are Mayan, yes but specifically Tzutujil, which is also the language they speak! And they are incredibly friendly!
Could you share their online store information? I'm having a hard time finding it.
Beautiful, such colors.
Beautiful!!! We have our own traditional weaving up here in BC too. I’ll have to keep these people in mind, for when I can afford to commission something.
They spend most of their hard work into weaving and is a beautiful culture art and has vibrant colours
WHAT IS THE WEBSITE
I live in Antigua and I see a lot of women weaving like this. It never fails to impress me, I couldn't do it.
Earl Grey Would you know a website that you can share? So p people interested can visit them and buy their products.
Regrettably, I do not know any off the top of my head. Most of the women that I see making them tend to sell them on the streets or in the markets
So very cool. I'd bet 99% of people have no idea how cloth is woven. I'd love to see an extended version of this video
It's enlightening to see how every day items like cloth are made, especially when it's done by hand! We're glad you enjoyed watching!
Really amazing that techniques like these are still around. I can imagine the patience you'd need.

Girl...only 23 woman? False. I come from Huehuetenango and all the woman and girls do this on a basis to make their traditional clothes.
But yes, it is sad to see the Mayan culture and heritage slowly fade. I hope to continue them with my children and hope to see them flourish these beautiful traditions
Northeast india, arunachal pradesh also does the same weaving style. It's call galè.😊
It is practiced in Nepal as well.
Almost every country have their own style of weaving.
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Hmmmm... what kind of weaving techniques? I’m from Guatemala and Mayan and there are thousands of weavers that do the Mayan weaving not just 23 soo?
Same method Available in bangladesh... Indegenious people
The background music its actually a traditional song from Honduras 🇭🇳 calls polka de la Rosa 🌹.
Good Happy 🥵🥵❤️
Proud to have Guatemalan blood on my mother's side. Just like you need a Jewish mom to be considered a real Jew lol.
