    I first learned about the "momentum" and "brake" features on a CMI Sounder 20MS controller. The "Momentum" provides a realistically slow acceleration and coasting. I always loved how real it felt! I'm enjoying your videos! Keep up the good work!

    Fixed DC is for DC accessories that require a fixed current like lights.

      1300s are decent controllers but don't use them with modern locomotives, they are prone to voltage spikes.

    Im surprised these units are still in play. We've had one since the mid 90s and its still somewhere in my parents house. Pretty cool how tech has stayed the same for a change

    I hate to bust your bubble, but that controller, while definitely an improvement from the standard MRC line, has been around along time. My Dad got me one of those back about 1990. The same scenario applied, he knew the guy, he bought it from, from work, who had gotten it years before to build his dream layout, this never happened and it sat for years before he sold it to my dad. All that said, This was my favorite controller, until it finally burnt out about 20 years latter.

      "New" is a vary relative term for me, however I didn't know these things dated back to the 1980s!

  • @ericzerkle5214
    @ericzerkle5214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thats an EXCELLENT choice!!!! Im 100% analog (cant afford the DCC stuff) and i use an older 1980s MRC controller...

  • @antonbruce1241
    @antonbruce1241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The momentum will work when starting up - it just applies voltage to the track slowly, so that the loco doesn't just rocket away, but starts more slowly.

  • @ericzerkle5214
    @ericzerkle5214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Heck i still have a MRC tech 2 power pack from 1979!!!! It still works 100%!

    Very cool. Part of why I went dcc is for the momentum. Never knew dc could do the same

  • @dacuzzz
    @dacuzzz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    momentum is used for acceleration as well as for stopping... turn on the momentum , then apply throttle you'll see the train start to move & will go till it reaches the throttle setting... nice unit i still have mine from 30 years ago... vinny

    • @SMTMainline

      It works fair enough, something bachmann actually did better then average in.

    I have searched the internet for one of these... Searched everything and find your video from your first time getting one.
    This power pack is identical to MRC's 2500, except for the two analog meters.
    Now you have two of them. (Pull out the sad violin music)...
    I want to send you a box of ho train stuff.

    Variable DC is the track power. Fixed DC is for 12-15 volt DC accessories (but don't use it - use a separate more regulated power supply instead).

  • @Thoughtful_taint
    @Thoughtful_taint 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to wait a couple seconds for the train to start moving when you have momentum on. Imho its the best feature of this controller. If you wait, the train will slowly creep forward and gain some speed. Just the opposite of how it slows down.
    Im sure youve figured that out by now, but if not, give it a try.

    Thank you for your insight over the years. My 11 year old son is an avid watcher of your channel and has learned a lot about model trains and their maintenance. Before watching this video, two of his engines were fried because of the MRC 1300 that he owns. We were curious if there is a reliable and affordable controller he should purchase? All assistance is greatly appreciated.

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can find MRC 9500 series controllers used for around $70. Another option would be purchasing a DCC controller (digital command control) which will give him more features. The only drawback is DCC requires locomotives with DCC chips. These can be installed for around $30.

  • @CodysTrainz
    @CodysTrainz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    it takes a while to start a train with momentum turned on, trains physically cant start very fast, the momentum function is designed to provide realistic starting and stopping
    try using momentum to start a train, and wait for it to start gaining speed.

  • @sparky107107
    @sparky107107 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    hey look at you , sitting at 700 subs. very nice.
    leave the momentum on, it should leave like a real train and slow down as one. very nice
    BUT MRC, why ?

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    New controller 9500.
    I haved 2 controllers Life Like and Lima in my N scale layout.
    Controller double for run 2 trains.
    Controller 9500 for run my F9 Chicago and North Western locomotive.
    Work for N scale ?.

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe it's okay with N scale but I wouldn't give them full throttle. 18 volts is too much for an N scale motor.
