    Some tips
-when you have longer routes, it's usually more benefitial to have multiple planes rather than upgrading the existing ones. Also when buying multiple planes, don't just spam click on them because they'll travel at the same speed, departing at the same time. You want to spread them out a bit.
-when an airport is nearly full, check where people want to go from there and why it's so crowded. if the only link from city A to city C is via city B, and A is filled with people that want to go from A to C, maybe you should introduce that route, and perhaps relieve some traffic from A if a lot of cities connect to it

They dont change size, they just appear to because of the pulsing effect from the upgrade. A ring around the circle shows its a country capital.

You weren’t, Dallas is 300 miles from Houston. I’m familiar with the route though because when I was five, me and my mother lived with my aunt. I went to school in Rowlett (about 15 miles or so from Dallas), and the drive was like 5 - 6 hours, but is was ok.
Eventually, hurricane Harvey hit Beaumont (close to Houston) and my aunt evacuated. We evacuated and got a house in Mesquite which we quickly moved again due to mold issues. My mother found a partner somewhere else in Mesquite and we lived there until we moved to Waxahachie (about 45 miles south of Dallas.) which is where we are now.
