My gen 1 likes to be launched at about 3k then roll into the throttle to about 75%, making 1-2 slightly easier, then nut it in 2nd from there on, also when starting the car as you turn the ignition hold the DSC off button down to disable the TCS systems as much as possible and will give you the most power in gears 1-3, you will see two lights on your dash then they will turn of permanently, realistically though it's a FWD car and you have to peddle it some dependent on conditions and surface, but from a roll there isn't much in the HP range it's capable of that will run with it. Granted I am running stage 3 setup with a stratified flash tune, E85 mix and 93 versions. I don't flat foot shift my car, a good precise quick shift is just as viable, this car doesn't like sloppy shifts. Also motor mounts help some and all mine are aftermarket.
I adjuster my launch to 4500 rmp and flatfoot shift at 6000rmp.car feels awesome.i only have stage 1 ots map.i ripped a golf 6 gti.he ate my dust from launch till 3rd.
An old (Motor Trend I think) article said the author has trouble getting 0 to 60 times that Mazda claimed for the gen 1 Speed 3. So he called Mazda and a Mazda Engineer told the author to launch the car from 2900 RPMs and flat foot shift through the first few gears! lol The Engineer even said,... " Don't worry, you won't hurt it!" lol. That's the only way your gonna get a good 0 to 60 time. It required beating the shit out of your car. I have always had trouble going from 2nd to 3rd if I try to shift really fast and that's without trying flat foot shifting. I'm to afraid to try a FFS on my car, it doesn't feel natural to me. lol plus it's my daily driver and I don't want to fuck it up cause I've got places to be like work or home! lol
I'll be honest with you, flat foot shifting doesn't really appeal to me. I like to hear the car in between shifts even if i'm trying to set a time, and yeah I mean you have a point with beating the shit out of it haha. I guess the 0-60 time I got in this wasn't even that bad from how I drove compared to how they want you to drive it LOL
Flat foot shifting will wear the clutch a bit more, and put alot of stress on the cv axles mostly, it'll also wear the transmission and engine mounts faster. Other than the risk of accidentally money shifting or shattering a gear not much else to worry about.

No, the only turbo'd Mazda available are the MazdaSpeed's which are hatchbacks and their own trim name.

They're so lowwwww. Peak HP wasn't hit yet. Yes, it dies off after about 6k, but that's when you shift; not like 5k. Lol. I'm surprised he was boost braking with how lightly he took it on the shifts. I've always banged mine 1-2-3-4-5 (typically never race into 6th). I know same 1-2 hard is fine, but do an easy 2-3, then you can bang again. I've never had a problem, but I've also had a unicorn. *knock on wood*. It was 110k miles with beating on it before I needed a clutch. That was last year, almost a decade of driving on the stock clutch and racing. With my new clutch and light flywheel it will shake the entire car on every shift and chirp 3rd. Maybe I should do a Mazda review, lol.

Put your foot down! I habe been driving like a dick for the last 130k miles, still driving strong! Around 14.5 psi average. The cold is your friend!

Haha, if it only worked that way. First problem is getting their attention through contacting them. Second is is that they don't know who I am, nor is my following not enough. They wouldn't get anything out of it, only would be giving me free advertisement. That's the way the world works!

The reason you aren’t hitting that 16 is because Cobb tunes SUCK. You’re better off staying with the stock tune until you get a couple bolt ons and get a protune

he meant its no good from a sit still drag race style. it performs better when the car is moving in a certain speed and gear. i have a ms3 g1 its all stock. still enjoy it when my boost kicks in. never had issues going in to 3rd gear when shifting fast. i heard you can ffs from 1st to 2nd but need to shift normal from 2nd to 3rd and so on.
