I can't believe the Somerton Man case was finally solved. That has always been one of the most mysterious cases in true crime. It's been so long that I was sure it would remain unsolved forever. To finally know the answer after theorizing about it for many years is really strange. As is usually the case, the truth turns out to be much blander than fiction. Just a normal guy with a broken marriage who decided to kill himself on a beach, leaving this world with his beloved poetry. However, him NOT being related to Jo's son is pretty insane. a 10-20 million to 1 chance? Honestly, the fact that a case with so many clues straight out of a spy thriller that all turned out to have fairly mundane explanations is crazier than the case itself . Jo's refusal to talk, Taman Shud, the "coded message", the luggage, the secret pocket, no one who could identify him, all of it not adding up to anything.

In my opinion a possible theory could be that Charles Webb just saw Jo somewhere on the street and saw that her son looked very similar to him. He probably approached her, talked to her about it, then they talked about how his marriage fell and how his son would've looked just like Jo's son had he had one, they probably exchanged numbers for a possible friendship, that's probably what happened, that's why Jo was so shaken and disturbed to fiind out that the man was found dead. I mean imagine you meeting someone and then you fiind out the very next days that he's found dead randomly, it would disturb anyone.

The only other one in recent memory is the "honor" killing of the Said sisters Amina and Sarah in Texas in 2008. The fact that Libby did everything she could to bring her and Abby's murderer to justice, yet they couldn't identify him for so long was equally devastating. I find it interesting how almost any time someone discovers a seemingly random string of letters or numbers they automatically assume it's a secret code. I used to have a job where I had to record my driving times between clients and I would write them on any scrap of paper I had in my car, but I would never include the : between the numbers so it would just look like sets of three or four numbers written in a column. My friend borrowed my car one time and was baffled to see these lists of numbers. Without any context strings of letters and numbers can be a huge variety of things but people always want to jump to the most interesting explanation.

Wow. What an amazing person Maurice is! I hope he'll be financially set for the rest of his life with the compensation he'll be taking back from the "justice" system. It's disgusting that decades can go by without a DNA test that a defendant requests, which could have easily exonerated him and possibly identified the bastard who was actually responsible.
This is why I don't believe "everything happens for a reason." No supernatural forces would force a good person into that fate, but we humans can fuck up each other pretty badly when we don't care for each other. ❣

Poor Maurice… I hope he was able to have a decent life behind bars that whole time, even though his situation was so horrible. I’m really glad he didn’t end up spending the rest of his life in prison… It’s crazy that they wouldn’t do a DNA test when prompted. Wouldn’t they want to make sure they had the right person?
