I play full time. I learned the game from a Natural Golf Spokesperson. I personally believe that everyone "recenters" differently. As long as the swing starts from the ground up, and 91% of the weight is on the left side at impact with irons at impact, you can figure out how to not have early extension. That is the difference between the sound at the beginning with Tommy Fleetwood and yourself. The only way to get that sound is with a dynamic, athletic move that has the sequencing correct. Sorry, if I seem like I am contradicting you. I'm not. I'm positive that you are correct with your facts. I definitely think these moves have to be done within the kinematic sequence and that is so simple when we throw a club straight down the range. I don't know why that one drill is not done more often until the student can perfect it. When you let the club set and really throw it hard, if you were to straighten your left leg early, you would throw it either dead left or not very far. This drill helped me to win the million dollar one drop, ( douche statement but it was my swing thought when I felt different,( people say pressure) because I wanted to win), and I have seen it help many students.

Thank you thank you for this, and for your other videos stressing the importance of the shift on to the left foot and flex of the knee. I am 82 and have been playing for over 60 years, and feel like I am finally learning how to swing a golf club correctly. LOL. This shift is an absolutely key factor. I would add two other things I am sure you have stressed in other videos. First, don't forget to turn your upper body, your chest, torso, shoulders whatever you want to call it, fully back. It is too easy to focus on the arms and forget the turn. Second, the right forearm should be fairly vertical at the end of the backswing, with the right elbow ahead of the right wrist. That allows the right elbow to come down in front of the right hip. The right wrist should be in extension, or bent back, and the left wrist in flexion, bowed or at least flat. I just came from a practice session at the range. I was working on your drill, which is great. But as I went through my irons, from GW to PW, 9, 8 7, 6 and 5, then to my 9 wood, I found I was getting too low a trajectory with the 6, 5 and 9W and losing distance. Grrrrrrrr. Why? Then I checked my right forearm and elbow at the end of the backswing. Sure enough, too horizontal. Corrected it as described, did a slow downswing to be sure the right elbow came in front of my hip, then addressed the ball with elbows close and the right elbow in front of the hip. Swung, did your shift and flex of the left leg, and bingo, nice high trajectories and the distance I should be getting. So again, thank you.

Craig, this is a gorgeous video! I like best the exercise partitioned into three steps (at about 7:00 minutes of the video) AND shown from three different perspectives. Very helpful! And yet, I have left a question: in the second step you promote the shift and flex. Is the forward shift mainly related to the hips and the head should not move or may the head also move? Thank you in advance for your answer!

Update: I've now watched a 3rd "secret move" video. Don't worry, it was evidence based! I now own an island in the Caribbean, a Boeing 777 dreamliner. I regularly shoot in the 50's from the tips 7400 yards. Women are leaving thier husbands just to try ti get in line to look at me. I fear that if I watch a 4th "evidence based secret moves video", I'll shoot in the 30's from the tips. I'll soon grow tired of the lack of challenge. I should have just submitted my video swing and thousands of $,$$$ and been satisfied with a fictional 4-11 shot improvement. I've created this problem for myself. Sorry about your wives fellows!

Ok... the left heel...interesting Craig! I learned from Nicklaus to flare out the left foot to allow better hip rotation. But it looks like these pros are actually moving the heel to create a front foot that more or less points straight ahead. Am I seeing this correctly?
I played 18 yesterday. First drive of the day.... big pull hook into the trees. Ball path started maybe 45 degrees left and then hooked another 30 yards left from there. Would I have eliminated the pull if my front foot was facing straight ahead... maybe straight ahead with woods and long irons and open up more for short game? Your thoughts?
I'm not what I'd call a "hacker".... my scores for the year are as such: 84, 86, 84, 94, 110, 44 (for 9), 82, 82, 39 (for 9), 100, 88, 42 (for 9), 84, 102, 83, 83. The 3 rounds 100 and over were the 3 seniors tournaments I entered.... hitting drives out of bounds!!! First 2 rounds penalty strokes for out of bounds.... last one .. the 100 had bad luck going in 12 traps in 18 holes. So my drives are what gets me in trouble 99% of the time. When I've hit a drive in the fairway or light rough, 99% of the time I par or bogie and a few birdies. All I need is a "clear shot to the green on shot number 2"!!!

When I was younger, seeing Nelson with his knee bend, it looked like his left knee travelled "past" his left foot. To me thinking logically... I said... "This must keep the clubhead on line to the intended target longer, thus giving better ball contact and keeping the shot on line. True or not?

So then I concentrated on shifting laterally toward the target and bending my front knee... a bit of a vertical drop... and I was sweeping the grass nicely. Your thoughts?

I don't believe in drills as a primary way to change something. You first need to indentify why a player straightens the leg so fast, typically pro's don't know or are not bothered and ignore that. I think it is very much related to wanting the pull the left shoulder up to hit the ball. So you first need to get used to a feeling of not wanting to pulling the left shoulder up as first impulse. There is a clear misunderstanding of how the golf swing works and you first need to replace the initial intent and impulse with a better one.
