If BYD gets the pricing right for overseas markets the Seagull could well be the VW Beetle of this century.
你们只是见的少,在中国,wuling,aion,leapmotor设计都比byd好,细节处也更好,智能化也更好,而且价格更便宜。
100% agree if it’s £18k GBP - it will definitely be the people’s car - suddenly evs will become affordable :)
You should've say "the TOYOTA Corolla of this century", as Corolla is the best selling sedan of 20th century.
@@brian.z6592 Toyota Corolla isn't as iconic as the VW Beetle.
@@walden6272 I agree with you on this.
Why is no one mentioning the reviewer guy's English is so elegant? I love how perfectly he speaks British English which fascinates me
Excellent show / episode, thank you. The Seagull is the BYD I'm planning to buy. Not patiently waiting for it to come to Australia.
Yes, I'm planning to get something like it ASAP.
another excellent review - thank you. I can see this makin a lot of people happy in the UK when it inevitably reaches our shores. the current class divide / high barrier to entry is a really divise point for a lot of us.
Excellent review - thanks
This price point is what the car world has been waiting for!!!
12grand in the U.K. would be an astounding price point and show how serious BYD is about bringing electric cars to the masses!!!
Well done BYD, you put all other manufacturers to shame!
12 thousand in dollars. So in pounds it's less.
Nice review.
Thanks, very interesting vehicle and excellent video.
Whoever styled this car , has their finger on the moment button 😊
this is like a cuter version version of my chevy spark. I love it!
Unforunately there is 3 serious cons: Only 4 seats; No heat pump; the BYD's price is at least 2 times bigger worldwide (not +50%), than in China
For the UK I agree with you. By my calculations it will be £23-25k (depending on options) and therefore not so attractive on price.
You can thank your politicians for the price difference
Great video! I really hope this enters the Canadian market :( it's over 3x cheaper than even the cheapest EV here
I definetely gonna buy one.
nice lil car right here, impressive head room
Great review! Wish this is available in the Philippines. BYD get on it😊
2024 h2
What a neat little car
Thanks for an interesting review. The title of your review says "Dolphin" though for your video showing the Seagull. "My favorite EV...until I say otherwise" HA!
It's a lovely little hatch. I'd buy one in a heart beat
Nice video and brilliant British accent!
Awesome review! Could you give please tell why would pick Leapmotor t03 over Seagull?
Neta V is abt 13k usd in Thailand now :) much larger booth space and more tech I feel. My wife loves hers
Im buying BYD for sure. No brainer.
It's all I need BYD seagull
Affordable price with adaptive cruise control ❤❤❤
Best review on the internet.
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward for the arriving of the Seagull in Brasil. (:
Mobilnya kecil dan keren dengan harga sangat terjangkau akan sangat banyak yang mau beli, kapan akan masuk ke Indonesia BYD SEAGULL ini ?
Oscar for the designer 🏅
That is the car I need in Australia but we only get big, expensive cars.
Mein nächstes Auto ❤! I love it! I m waiting in Germany on this car!!!!😊
Leider wird es in D. deutlich teurer.
BYD Seagull, make the rear view larger, add a heat pump to keep the battery operating optimally in cold weather, AWD option with Firestone WeatherGrip snow rated tires for US market (Alaska), one pedal driving with regenerative brakes, FOB key replaced with access from smartphone and or a credit card, battery charging under 15 minutes even in extreme cold climate, high entry for seniors ease of entry.
Aka build a completely different car. Honestly, aside from a few niggles like the wipers, it seems to do everything Id look for in a small car. Range is plenty, even allowing shorter road trips. Top speed is servicable. If the price stays sub 20k... Pretty sure Im going to get it.
You should compare it with Tiago EV..!!
Good video and practical car.
i hope this car coming soon in vietnam ❤
The presenter reminds me or Kai and Lok from Digital Rev TV which they tried to do a Topgear for camera. Now that this is about cars, damn, it's like Chinese Topgear in English
it has perhaps the safest battery technology available that is inexpensive. As far as I know, this battery is not a fire hazard
I wonder what the second hand value of one of these will be.
It would still be a hard fight in my country Malaysia. We have a Perodua MyVi here at $12k brand new which is the size of the Dolphin, uses toyota engine and transmission, has 6 airbag, adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, fully loaded with tech/features, 10seconds 0-100km/h, 200km/h top speed andit gets 49mpg (22km/l), our fuel price is around $0.44/liter.
As a comparison the Dolphin in my country now sells at $21k base
Apples to oranges comparison
Yeah, were still far from comparing an EV to an ICE car. But unlike others, the Seagull merely loses in this comparison, rather than being utterly destroyed.
Still better to have an EV don't have to worry about oil changes and all the other ICE car things that need constant maintenance. While Malaysia fuel is cheap, with home solar there are savings to be made.
Model 2 competitor?
It’s a massive hit 😊
Love it❤
Fully agree that the front & (lack of) rear wipers needs urgent fixing. On any British motorway in winter, so much crap gets thrown up by passing HGVs that you ABSOLUTELY need good wipers or the car will quickly become dangerous to drive. My little Suzuki Celerio, which has similar dimensions to the Seagull, has two front & one rear wiper so it can be done at a tiny add-on cost. And while we're talking visibility, don't forget to put some shading between the two sunvisors (ie where the rear view mirror is). At this time of year, the sun is really low in the sky & can blind you if you're pointing in the wrong direction.
Other than that, if BYD bring the Seagull to the UK and don't, like so many EV suppliers, try to gouge the price, then I'm definitely going to get one.
A nice car for living in a small city
Please show dc charging
IF ( and I really mean..IF) this excellent little car ever comes to the U.S. , I'll be the first customer at the dealership.
I like this ride. But given the highway feedback, would it mean that this isn't good for highway speeds over 100kph and I should opt for the dolphin instead?
To build a brand , all car makers need a loss leader like this ! Let’s hope the west is listening 😊
It's not a loss leader. BYD's gross margin is 20%, much higher than a lot of established brands.
@@telescopesh yehh! In China, but the west couldn’t compete on quality and range for this price! They would, as with most of their EVs have to start at a loss 😯😉
@@petersimms4982 As mentioned, this is not a loss leader, and BYD refuse to bring it to any other markets so far.
man, 12k usd for all that??
Nowonder EU and USA become protectionist
😅
and it costs $6 in California electric prices to go 190 miles. not bad.
If the EU and The US it will not be much higher after subsidies
@@infoworld7706 lol, no
USA subsidies their EV
i bet EU too
in US, there are federal insentive and state insentive
but guess what,, EV still expensive for whatever reason
if Tesla, GM, Ford, Chevy ain't USA brands,, i doubt they'll have presence in USA market
I saw golf carts pricing at over $11,000 at the front of Lowes Hardware last week.
This is an actual car, for less money .
The competition is the price not the other evs
This car is for new drivers?
very cool and practical. I hope there will be a 100-150 horsepower version.
the test is very good, it contains all important data.
We drive 80mph or 130kph. So this car would be a bit slow on American freeways but as a town car it is fine and can go on the freeway
The GWM ORA 3 400 is only $1,500 expensive than this BYD Seagul or Dolphin Mini here in the Philippines so majority of buyers will be ignoring this model as the ORA 3 400 is on a higher class. It's a DOA model for sure unless BYD decides to reduce the price of this BEV.
This Seagull is larger than my first car, and I'm not *that* old.
A 3.87m long car should be fine for the needs of a 3 person family and not just for city driving. People who have 4 large dogs have plenty of huge SUVs to pick from already.
It measures at 3780*1715*1540mm.
@@telescopeshThe Peugeot 206 sold by the millions and was about the same: Length: 3872 mm (152.4 in)
Width: 1655 mm (65.2 in)
Height: 1446 mm (56.9 in)
Wheelbase: 2442 mm (96.1 in)
@@NunoLima1337 I've seen Peugeot 206 in some track days in Shanghai. This Seagull has a much much bigger 2nd row.
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 🎶🎶🎶🕊️🕊️☀️☀️☀️🌴🌴🌴
If it sells in Australia for 20k it would sell like hot cakes
in Europe i think that the competicion is Dacia Spring but i like BYD Seagull better
This has 1.5x the range & performance. Not even close.
dacia have a 65cv version available now,, BYD Seagull is not vailable in Portugal yet, but totally agree the Seagull wins in every aspect@@telescopesh
We need BYD in america!
Offering such as the Seagull makes it hard for me to frown towards BYD, albeit I'm looking forward to Telescope's review of Weilai's up-and-coming brand(s). As always, thanks for the informative and fun episode.
you mean Nio?
@@brian.z6592
Weilai is the Chinese name for NIO.
Hey You said this car does not have any competition in India but sadly You r wrong on that aspect.India has a car name Tata Tiago ev which has similar specs and range at more affordable price..
24kWh battery and caliming 315km range? The car must be walking. Plus this Tiago has 100mm shorter wheelbase so interior space is a lot smaller.
Is it a firetrap this Tata. What battery tech is it using? Better than BYD blade?
Compare that with Punch EV from TATA
Putting a longer (wider) wiper blade would go a long way to clear more of the windscreen. Possibly a more robust wiper motor to cope with the extra wiper drag.
You know that you DEFINITELY said 'definitely' like a hundred times, difinitely. 🤪
Great video and review. Loved the visuals but could've improved the audio quality. Very low level and too much wind noise, a mini deadcat for the lavalier will do the job! 👍🏼
Great review, interesting it doesn't have a rear wiper, obviously would be needed. Fix the part of the dash where the driver bumps his leg and better front windscreen wiper coverage. Can live with its minor problems if the price is right. Other than that, would love this car.
Um carro que tem tudo para ser o futuro. Todos sabemos que o mais difícil de tufo é fazer um carro barato que seja minimamente bom.
Is it a death trap in a crash?
15k USD would be very competitive
It has a better look than Wuling Air EV
China has best support for Ev charging in the world. Any market wanting to switch will invest in charging. USA charging companies stock and investment is collapsing
very simplistic, efficient and most importantly, affordable even for average Joe. Please, bring to USA. We are tired of 40k to 100k hyped eV's that continue to burn on streets of Los Angles and New York.
6.5 miles per kw. Significantly better than anything you can get in the US.
In our country the dealership MARK UP the MARK UP! CALLING Elon! 3:)
Looks more like baby MG4 than Lamborghini. 😊 chinese evs in my country are about twice the china price. But for 20-24k this would sell like hot cakes!
Same in Hungary. BYD is only cheaper about 20-30% than Tesla, so not a great buy. Yet.
Anyone knows how they can have prices so low? We are talking half the price of a Dacia Spring which already is ridicolously bad made.
Another question. Aerodinamically speaking, does the car "pull" on the right at high speeds due to the half grille on the front? Why didn't they make a full width shorter grille instead?
supply chain, mature technology, domestic competitions, china ev succesfully bypass most of the patent barriers for ICE engine so they can produce independently without paying for license. this is what they are trying to do in semiconductor now. and of course subsidy/incentive in the early phase for research and adoption. there are still some help but mostly cut and the consumers already accepting ev as main vehicle.
Significantly more handsome than its bigger brother the Dolphin. It visually has more in common with the MG4, which isn't a bad thing. We've already got an MG4 in the driveway but as a 2 car family, we still need to replace our 2nd car with a suitable EV. If this ever makes its way to Australia, it's top of my list.
This actually looks like it should have been the new kia picanto 😊
When is it coming to Australia. Please please. But guess what fossil Fuels own this country and both Partys makes far too much in petrol tax. Shane
Why do you and fully auto show all go to guangdong to review this car?
BYD HQ location
This was flimed in Shanghai.
@@telescopesh I saw a “粤” plate
@@foreverwhisper It's shipped to Shanghai.
@@telescopesh oic, still I don’t see many of these in Shanghai
Can a car's sun roof withstand a hailstorm?

Why does the Seagull look better than Dolphin...

The Viet Nam EV: Vinfast VF3 coming out next year is 3114 x 1673 x 1567 mm, plus 200 km range and will cost around 13000 USD
That's a true agressively cute car
VF3 cannot sit four people in comfort and only has half the range.
Vietnam chill out 😂🎉
Vinfast is nothing but a Vietnam's Hengda.@@telescopesh
In EU they cost 4 times more... LOL
Cheaper to run and now cheaper to buy. EVs will draw down the cost of driving.
Looks like they hit all the right notes for a minimum sized practical ev where the price will make or break it, I expect Ev's to blow everything else off the road for value within a decade IF governments make the right decisions....
Tata Nexon EV
Dude really complaining about not having automatic climate control in a $10k economy car.
That car could come with crank windows and only a heater and it would still be price low.
While Tesla is struggling for $25k ev
This car will probably have a hard time making it to international markets because of the dealers union in those countries lol. This is way too cheap for how much value you are getting and it will completely destroy the sales of other hatchbacks in the market.
Name another car with those features and price? Simple... Dacia Spring
So you even look at the specs? Dacia Spring has 130km less range, 11kWh less battery capacity, 13hp less power, much smaller 2nd row. It's a joke compare to this.
The reason the call it a baby lamborgini is cos it was designed by a guy who worked for lamborgini...
Better up your game tesla otherwise I'll be buying a seagull for my next car
This BYD Seagull woulf absolutely wipe the floor with western automakers. Compare this to the Honda e, and it's almost laughable
If it ever does come to the EU as the Atto1 , even if it'll be slapped with competitor's political tarrifs.
0-100 in 13 seconds ?
Really ?
Yes, you need to go full throttle all the time.
Baojun yundou/cloud better choice than this car.
wuling baojun yunduo;cloud
Tata Tiago EV is better and more practical
Better making chicken curry.
what a rubbish car😂
