The Zoom MS series has got a major update! Five big stomps on such a small pedal, to get the ultimate control over it. I had to check it for myself. But what about the sounds. The MS-50G+ comes with 100 selected effect. Compared to it's older brother that seems tough! In this video I show you what I would do with this limited amount of effects. Hi Kenneth - this is GREAT 👍 I’m one of those who picked up an MS-50 & MS-70 from your past videos. So glad Zoom produced an updated MS pedal rather than abandon it! 😃
Yeah, I'm also happy they did a new run of these pedals. If we could have all the sounds from the old version I would be more amazed. But I see that they need to sell their products.
@@berlinshoegazerkeep in mind the remote control feature is cabled, I.e. you need a USB to USB c adapter dongle to make it work. I don't think you can control it from PC, either, it's app based. When I saw the new model I wondered if the Shoegazer channel would do a review of it. I'm happy you did! You're really the only channel I've seen that gives this pedal the respect it deserves. Thank you! It'd be nice if Zoom included a universal volume for their overdrive/fuzz settings so that when I turn them on, it doesn't blow my speakers.
Thank you for your words. These pedals are great babsically and very useful. But yes, they have it's little issues here and there. But still good for their price. The new version is a little too limited effect-amount-wise, but I think it's a cool new design idea.
The sound engg once gave me a disapproving look when he saw my compact set up made possible with the ms50g, till he heard my tone and what i could do with my set up. He now owns the 70cdr and an ms 50g on his set up. I have adopted a simplistic and just enough set up / board from a massive "hey-look-at-my-shiny-colourful" collection of pedals to a really compact up made possible by these pedals....
You really are rather Genius with figuring out presets and especially with that 12 string simulation too. I'm also always searching for new ways to fatten up a clean signal besides using just chorus and the Doubling effect is one good way of doing that but I'm always looking for other undiscovered options. This was a GREAT presentation and so Thanks.
A fantastic band from melbourne lowtide uses these. Gabe the guitarist had a pedal board bigger than a dinner table and then converted to using 4-5 of these. Using 4 effects at once inside each pedal. Theyre incredibly powerful pedals for their footprint
You really do need to get a jazzmaster 12 string and a bass VI (the Squire versions). I got myself both last year, and they are currently the only instruments I'm playing and writing music with. Between the 2 of them, they have everything you need to write and practice. They are also super cool and well worth the price tag
I will definitely buy a bass VI again. I played it for some time. But the one I had was buzzing as hell. I was young, and needed a working instrument and sold it to buy a mustang bass. But it was cool to play this hybrid instrument. Never played a 12 string so far. I would love to experiment with tunings on these.
@berlinshoegazer 12 string isn't that different other than the strings are in pairs so it's super easy if you play bass. Other than that, everything sounds better played as an open cord, and you'll use slightly different strumming patterns.
@@berlinshoegazerif you want a more reliable bass vi I highly reccomend the gretsch baritone guitar. its 30 inch scale length can easily do bass vi stuff, and it’s such a smooth instrument.

I think the new effects are more defined and less noisy imo. But I don't know if they really changed something. The pitch shifter sounded also more stable.
I think the original currently is priced higher than the new updated one because of two things. One you can get more patches with the old model because zoom added more to it. Second, the controls are too small for ergonomic use as foot pedal. I think it should be used as desktop effects module and not a pedal per say. With that said do you not like humbuckers and metal tones?
Wow. Thank you for this great lesson. I have new respect for this pedal. I will see how far I can get with my old one, but I'd certainly get the new one at some point. Cheers from Montreal! 😎
Really curious what that seemingly in-line pre-amp 1/4" to XLR cable is that you use for the mic input! I didn't know that kind of thing existed. I've been using a Zoom H5 as a pre-amp just to plug my mic into pedals and it'd be great to have an easier solution
I bought 70CDR because of your videos and it's awesome! The only thing that kinda confused me is where you plugged the pedal in your older videos. Was it in FX loop or straight into the amp input/audio interface?
I always go straight into the input of my interface or amps because of all the distortion I use. But if you only use mod, delay and reverb, you could also check the FX loop. Could sound even better.

Thanks for your video. I still lol at your old 'anonymous Russian hacker video':) Just a question about the new Zoom. Does it also work as an interface? Thanks in advance and greetings from Panama.
Zoom should have made it rechargeable, have an FX loop, and a looper pedal effect should’ve been integrated. Then it would’ve really been the ms-50g PLUS
Hopefully they update it, I would love to have the polyphonic pitch shifter since it’s a new effect but I don’t see it worth it to upgrade to the plus version
Hi! Not specifically related to the Zoom, but just wondering what you use to convert the mic output so you can use it with a guitar pedal. I've been looking into "low z converters", but I'm still new pretty new to this. btw, I purchased the zoom MS50G to experiment with guitar effects a few years back after watching your videos. your videos are the best. thanks :)
They have effects locked behind an app? And theres only an ios version? That sucks dude, might be a dealbreaker for me. I buy a pedal but cant use all of the effects because of my phone? Wtf lol
If the 50 g has 70 more effects than the 50g plus it seems that the only advantage is the four toggle switches Why buy a new pedal with less effects than the okd one
@@berlinshoegazer Been a huge fan of your channel for years. Always good content. This video was exceptional! I have a shoegaze band, if you're interested in checking it out. I do everything myself. It's called Trophy Grief. Take care bud ✌️
Have they just improved the UI? I was hoping they would improve the sound or number of effects it can use at once. Putting a 10 year old pedal in a new box is not making me pull out my wallet. Very disappointed
I also think the could communicate this a litte better. But from testing the pedal I'd say the sounds are more defined, less noisy and the pitch shifting more stable.
Im sorry but you couldve been WAY more critical about this mediocre update to an otherwise pretty awesome product. If the old version had never existed this wouldve been more impressive... But no preset switching, byebye legacy effects and no Midi In/Out. They've completely ignored all requests from the community, which would've eaten up these new pedals if they had all these functions but now instead these pedals are flopping, almost nobody is buying these pedals 🤦🤦🤦
Totally get your point. I am still open for upcoming updates, as they released those pretty fast the las time. But as you say it, I fear there won't be much about the overall software.
If there is a possibility to add more effects later and make the device your own, as with the old version, I think this one has a chance. But regarding the missing desktop and android app, it's quite sad in some way.
You are the third person I read since yesterday I started to look for opinions who says the old version is better. One guy said that old version had cab simulator and this one not. Is this true? Why you think it is better the old version??
@@jonathanchable8683 yeah its true but i won't buy any zoom product for cab sim cause i think they all sound awful. I think old one is better because it has some really cool delays and reverbs that this version don't have like the black hole reverb. I sold off my Zoom G1Xon after several years of faithful service. Does this have the Z-Organ effect? Or is it missing, like on the G(1/2)X Four?
You can see the full effects list on the webpage of the zoom ms 50g+. There is a download link to the pdf with all the available effects.
Zoom should have made it rechargeable, have an FX loop, and a looper pedal effect should’ve been integrated. Then it would’ve really been the ms-50g PLUS
The only plus is the colourful display and the four new stomps, actually.
The only two things I didn’t liked about it were the lack of a looper and the design
Anybody kmows if the effects manager hack works in the Plus series?
not that i know of. at least not yet
Hopefully they update it, I would love to have the polyphonic pitch shifter since it’s a new effect but I don’t see it worth it to upgrade to the plus version
Imagine the new software and hardware with all these effects from the other pedals.. 🤯
Hi! Not specifically related to the Zoom, but just wondering what you use to convert the mic output so you can use it with a guitar pedal. I've been looking into "low z converters", but I'm still new pretty new to this. btw, I purchased the zoom MS50G to experiment with guitar effects a few years back after watching your videos. your videos are the best. thanks :)
Its called an Male XLR to Jack impedance cable.
Is there a Whammy mode for the button to become an expression?
No, not so far.
So there's no Cab sim/IR AT ALL???
afaik they're making a separate IR pedal in the same form factor
Yep, they seem to make different MS+ pedals for different uses. They probably try to avoid mixing up the effects as last time.
Do you think the zoom manager works in this and the MS70CDR+?
Not yet - but it should in the future.
The only preset I would ever use is the Cocteau Twins. Sounds great. The rest make me feel queasy
They have effects locked behind an app? And theres only an ios version? That sucks dude, might be a dealbreaker for me. I buy a pedal but cant use all of the effects because of my phone? Wtf lol
Yeah, I don't get it as well.
Can we have like 3 overdrive pedal in 1 patch?
Sure, why not? :)
I'm good with my modded 70CDR, but thanks again for the video! :)
If the 50 g has 70 more effects than the 50g plus it seems that the only advantage is the four toggle switches
Why buy a new pedal with less effects than the okd one
That's the million dollar question. Idk
I hacked my CD70 with the editor software. It's so much more useful now, thanks for that trick. This one comes with all the effects?
Happy it worked out for you. This one is limited to 100 effects. But new ones, and some sound much better than on the old series.
I love this video
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it. 🫡
@@berlinshoegazer Been a huge fan of your channel for years. Always good content. This video was exceptional!
I have a shoegaze band, if you're interested in checking it out. I do everything myself. It's called Trophy Grief.
Take care bud ✌️
Diret to pa? Return or in front of an amp?
All of those options. Always depends on you personal needs.
Can software 50 plus can use on 50g?
Would be cool, but no.
Zoom MSG! Uncle Roger approves.
Jamie Oliver magazine though...
That's not me. 😂 That's my neighbour. Okay it's me. But I learned a lot of cooking through Jamie.
As a fellow Darkwing Duck fan, I have to say I'm not at all sure what that sound has do with it
Haha. That's true. The effect reminded me of ducks quark. And I needed a catchy name to remind myself of what the preset does.
The + doesn't (yet?) have a reverse reverb patch, but the original model does - so if you wanna do MBV style shoegaze, I'd stick with the original
Yeah, it's too bad they god rid of many effects.
dope and fly
Too bad they still didn't make it a two screen with seperate tap tempo and expression input
Could be hacked?
Hopefully soon.
ICH LIEBE DICH!! ☺ Awesone!
So this is what a Godless life sounds like... just noise. 😊
BERLIN SUPERBOOTH 2024
it's very odd that this is *the only form factor* of Zoom pedals people like.
Zoom has great delay, verb and modulations.
It's probably just very handy and compact. Not always the best to use, but practical.
where is my dear Russian hacker guy :(
need more effect and hack software😢
@@berlinshoegazer I'm pretty sure EVERYONE is open to updates ;) but they can't add midi in/out with an update
Definitely a downgrade.
If there is a possibility to add more effects later and make the device your own, as with the old version, I think this one has a chance. But regarding the missing desktop and android app, it's quite sad in some way.
@@berlinshoegazer Yeah I think there's still hope but I won't be getting rid of the old one anytime soon.
Old version was better
You are the third person I read since yesterday I started to look for opinions who says the old version is better.
One guy said that old version had cab simulator and this one not. Is this true?
Why you think it is better the old version??
@@jonathanchable8683 yeah its true but i won't buy any zoom product for cab sim cause i think they all sound awful. I think old one is better because it has some really cool delays and reverbs that this version don't have like the black hole reverb. I mean this one seems cool too but it doesn't feel like a upgrade to me so i think it doesn't worth the money and that's why i think old one is better.
A shoegaze fan and an Android user? Strange combination. Android aesthetics are horrible, I thought shoegazers had good taste in aesthetics generally.
