and it amazes me the fact that most of her longest notes are not straight notes, but there is a wide variety of vowels, register change, long sentences with different words, playing with the volume, adding or stopping vibrato... Great content as always!
The Summer Knows a Michel Legrand masterpiece is the longest note sustained by the great Sarah Vaughan with a 26 second count. I've always thought that Sassys Blues live in Tivoli is the longest note sustained but I was wrong according to this compilation. Thanks for the compilation.
My favs: Shadow of Your Smile, The Summer Knows, And I Love Him, Maria, Summer Me Winter Me, What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life, Wave & So Many Stars. 🥰
As exhilarating as I find some of Ella's lightening fast scat runs, I think that Sarah's s-l-o-w singing and sustained notes are probably technically superior. And those lungs! Dearly Beloved is a musician (classical violin, viola, recorder) and when I introduced him to Sarah his first comment was that she must have mastered the art of circular breathing practised by wind and brass players.

The BRILLIANCE & THE GENIUS OF HER TOTAL CONTROL OF HER AMAZING INSTRUMENT !!
For someone who smoke until the very end, her lung capacity it astonishing! The richness and consistency of her held note is otherworldly!
The greatest female singer who ever lived.

Her longest sustained note was 33 seconds. I can't remember the song, but it's on her Live in Tokyo album.
Congratulations for theses selections, you got a super subtile ear
Hats off
Love you

They both had great breathe control. Ella could hold a note too.
I thought I had listened all - after listen Johnny Mathis - but Sara Vaughan was hidden
