The difference being that Adam was a broken sociopath with issues, A LOT of issues, Jaune is trying to cope with the fact that he had to kill a friend and thinks he can't protect anyone, I think him naming them after his friends makes him think like this gives him a second chance to save those he feels he let down.

All he did was name them after friends to keep him stable. I think the accension is more of a moral dilemma. Is it death if your reborn anew but dawning a new personality/start at life, relinquishing your past memories, personality, choices and relationships but you in a way are a kept alive in this new form of yourself? or does death start when you completely lose your memories and what holds you to be you? Of course, I think Jaune forming all these memories with these paper pleasers probably held a lot of worth in his own life to want to keep them alive. Which to him would mean that they would be completely different essentially equal to being dead, as they are no longer the same person.
Well it depends, but here it maybe that you have something old becoming something new and the thing that was old is lost and replaced with something new. So the old thing is dead, in the sense that its no longer here tangibly but in its place is the new thing it became.
I see this as the relation a caretaker has with an sick and elderly parent ( like a grandmother, for instance). They are religious, and say it's time for them to go to a better place, but you just want them to live as long as possible, no matter how much effort you need to put to do it, no matter the toll it takes on you.

I mean I doubt he MacGyver this stuff overnight; like he probably did this through trial and error and everyone that is here might have been what he had left over once he got it down
His warning lacked any specifics, and more importantly, he created the pocket dimension in a way that caused them to fall into this seemingly completely unrelated realm instead of ending up somewhere on the path from Atlas to Vacuo or straight up being erased from existence, even though he also said he will do exactly what they tell him and nothing else. This is already enough to make me suspect he has his own agenda, especially when it's not the first time he and Jinn bended their rules in that way.
