This is so amazing to be watching Jefferson City, Missouri where i currently live and work. I have been in this small and very peaceful city for the past eight years and I'm loving it. Since i migrated from Liberia in West Africa to the USA, Jeff City has been my kind of place to live and work.
The last residential area you went thru has a couple of newer buildings because it was ground zero for the 2019 tornado. Devastated the neighborhood and actually hit the prison area where you started at. Thanks for visiting !! edit - also at north side of Capitol building there is a new pedestrian bridge that goes across the RR tracks and down to Adrian's Island where there is a large park like area. You can see the curved pathways in the drone shot.

I was born in Jeff City "Jefferson City". Downtown use to be called uptown when I was a child because it was up the hill. We moved away but it brings up memories. I visited the state pen when it was still in use, got to see the gas chamber and everything. I use to visit the Capitol often, loved it up there, the view was great and the museum inside with the paintings impressive. The Capitol was built because the previous one burnt down, so they made the new one fireproof, they modeled it off the Capitol in D.C.
Not sure why this popped up in my feed but where I was born, raised and currently still live with my husband and children. Crazy to see your town experienced through someone else’s eyes! Glad you enjoyed your visit 😊
I love seeing this town and especially this courthouse! My mom and dad got married in this courthouse in 1942. They lived in Illinois and had to cross the river into Missouri to get secretly married before my dad shipped overseas to fight in WWII. Marriage laws were different in Illinois and Missouri--in Illinois, legal marriage age was 18; my mom was 18 in December 1942, my dad would not turn 18 until March 1943. So they married in Missouri where the legal age was, I think, 16. Fast forward, they were married 57 years until my dad's death in 1999! What a story! Thanks for showing this, LS, means a lot to me!
Having lived in Carson City, Nevada from 1976 to 1979, I am always interested in seeing other state capitals. I have not been to Jefferson City, so a video like this helps me see the town in a different way. I enjoyed it.
I currently live in another state capital - Denver! I am Texas born. Mom and Dad divorced in 1967. The Air Force transferred Dad to Denver. Both parents remarried in 1967. I gained a second mom with a son and daughter, all with Colorado roots. All these years later, Dad and the Colorado family live in Texas. The Texas kid lives in Colorado. We are all happy about where we ended up. When I left Carson City in 1979, the destination was Colorado. In Carson City, I worked two legislative sessions as a committee stenographer. My wife worked for the State Printing Office. Her work schedule during the legislative sessions changed to graveyard hours. The printing office printed daily histories and the proposed bills on a nightly basis while the legislature was in session. The pay was awesome, and it was a number of years before we caught up with the pay rate we got while working for the legislature. I ended up being the person taking minutes at city council (Board of Supervisor) meetings.
One more footnote - In 1979, the Judiciary Committees of both houses held joint hearings regarding abortion. The local newspaper was an afternoon paper. When I saw the newspaper, the feature story was about those hearings. A photo accompanying the story prominently showed me at my post dutifully taking notes. Front page news. I immediately made plans to purchase extra copies of the newspaper the following day at their office. My wife woke me during the night with a phone call. On the day I appeared in a front page photo in our newspaper, the newspaper office was destroyed by fire. I got the extra copies of the paper at a local 7-11!
I just watched this video. I am glad I did. It was so nice to see all of those beautiful historical buildings; and to think they were built without all of the modern technology. That speaks volumes about the skill and knowledge of past craftsmen. Also the areas were clean. It shows the pride and care of the people who maintain the city.
Of course, I loved this trip, too!! Downtown was pretty. The homes were beautiful. Imagine walking up all those stairs from the street. It makes them more majestic to me. The Capitol was beautiful. So much history there. I love how Nicole gets her passport stamped, and the guy was meticulous, stamping it just right. I would have ordered the sauerkraut and brat, too. Missouri is the Show Me state, and you showed the Capitol in the most impressive way. Wow! Didn’t know about the caves! Getting in the Bronco for our next stop! Thank you! Love from Ft Worth
Wish you would’ve been here in the early summer/spring 😂. It looks a lot better when the gardens and trees are blooming as well as the fountains being turned on
It's very interesting to see your home city through someone else's eyes. Jefferson City was voted Rand McNally's "Most Beautiful Small Town" a few years ago. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Prison Brews is always a great local choice. Enjoy your travels!
I know right! Grew up here too and it’s always cool to show people around. It’s really the people that makes it what it is. Along with amazing views like these.
Born and Raised in Jeff City. We had a devastating tornado in 2019 which left this part of town destroyed, lots of older homes never were repaired. The fountains aren't running because it gets so cold here and the pipes will freeze. The capitol building has very old piping which makes it difficult to keep such fountains on during the winter.
And this is why I never left Jeff. While growing up, there has been so many people that I've met that were eager to move away, but I've never seen a problem with Jeff. It's relatively quiet, relatively low crime rate, great education for kids, entrepreneurial opportunities all over the place.. the list goes on and on.
Personally, I left, not because of Jeff itself but because somewhere in my past I must have a Gypsy hanging out in my family tree. Being landlocked, I had a strong desire to see the oceans. Having since been a lot of different places, it would be quite easy to return "home." Jays Class of '76

Jefferson City is the largest Capitol city without any interstate highway, but they are working on it. It could be future I-51 which connect between Des Moines Iowa to Conway (Little Rock) Arkansas, via Jefferson City. They used to mentioned I-570 back in the early 1970s, but there is a long delay.😢
This town is underrated. The people in this town we're the best and the shopping Lincoln University was all smiles and welcoming Jeff city we love you.....
My last visit to Jeff City was on my fully loaded touring bicycle via the Katy Trail. There's a separated pedestrian/bike path on the hwy 54 bridge. Safe, but fairly daunting with a giant drop to river on one side and roaring traffic to your immediate other side that shakes the bridge. Worth the detour to check out the city and get an ice cream at Central Dairy.

I've enjoyed growing up in the surrounding area all my life. This area is beautiful during the fall. You guys should plan a trip back in the summer time.
My grandpa was the state treasurer in the 70s and his girlfriend worked in the capital until she retired in the mid 2000s. I used to get private tours whenever I wanted. Been in the governors office many times and met the governor back then.

Nicole's quip about preferring that the bar be named 'Prison Bruise' instead of 'Prison Brews' was understated but quite clever. She spontaneously and quietly utters things in your videos that definitely add to their quality. Please tell her so. Thank you for visiting my home town. Lots of memories. Wish you could have spent more time in and around Jeff. As someone else commented, "downtown" used to be "uptown." Makes sense. it's high on the hill. I'm pretty sure others would say I'm wrong but for me, downtown was Missouri Blvd.
Another great video! A bit of a shame that the Capital itself wasn’t very lively and the the Prison itself was closed due to the upcoming holidays! But you always do such a good job giving every city a fair shake and provide good information. Can’t wait for the next one!
Loved the Video. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you guys. You have brought the country side of America a TH-cam the volume of work you are doing is incredible thank you very much. I hope you were making a living at this and can keep doing it.
That's the way I get it with landmarks, be closed. I like the Lewis and Clark Monument. Read about them in school. I'd like to live in Jefferson City. I enjoy seeing the capital building. Good seeing Nicole.
When he was in front of the Capital at the statute of Thomas Jefferson the camera panned around the red building straight across the street is a Federal Court house. If you were into courthouses.
This video was very informative and also, very relaxing for me. I love hearing the history of any given place but Jefferson City seems to have lots of "historical" history concerning it. Thanks for once again sharing our great country with the world. Stan in Idaho
Due to its location, Jeff City does indeed have a lot of history. Lewis & Clark, river boats, the original Pacific Railroad => Missouri Pacific => Union Pacific. At one point in the Civil War, US Grant briefly took command of a post in town. The whole area -- lots of history.
@@geraldrhodes4114 My paternal grandpa was from Missouri but, I don't know exactly where. I have only one uncle remaining that would know where. I'd love to go visit Jefferson City but, at my age I doubt I'll get the chance. We're up here in Northern Idaho where lots of history took place.
@@harrisonmantooth7363, Boy, I surely understand about having 1 relative who can give you family history. I'd recommend getting in touch with that uncle and learning what you can. If you do ever get the chance to visit the area, might want to do a bit of research first and find out some of the history. That way, you'd have a better idea of places to visit. I'm hoping to get back home for at least a visit sometime in the not-too-distant future.
What a lovely looking city! And the interior of the capital looks almost like a set of a fantasy movie! Guys, can we as viewers hope for a Christmas special from you?
Thankfully I never 'visited' a prison in Missouri 🤔 I was in Jefferson City 15 years ago to connect with a lady I met on the internet. Things didnt work out for us but while I was there she showed me around that beautiful little city and the surrounding area including a short trip to St Louis and up in the Arch. I liked Missouri, and that woman with the beautiful blue eyes too. I haven't thought about Jeff City in awhile until some strange current on the web sent me to your channel. I traveled the back roads of this country for awhile back in the 2000's to see what I could see similar to what you are doing in your videos. Nice vids ...Happy Trails and a Merry Yuletide to you!
I live in Jefferson City. You just posted this video 11th a ago. I discovered your previous video about rural Arkansas and was shocked that you were headed to my hometown next. I see that you have another video called rural Missouri unbelievable small towns. I’ll be watching that one next.
My wife lived about 10 or so miles away in California MO when she was a kid. We've been through MO many times. Will have to stop in Jefferson City sometime.
I randomly pull up a youtube video and see my house and my work place all in one 😂. So a few things. With the prison you're not missing anything. If you come back and do the tour, take the history tour not the ghost tour. I've been a few times and never saw 1 friggin ghost. Yes the Governor lives in the mansion. The reason there is no water in the fountains is because about a week or 2 later the whole city freezes. If they don't have the water drained the pipes will burst and ruin the monument. At the Capitol you didn't make the rookie mistake of actually walking those stairs 😂 good job Prison Brews is a good choice but right across the street is the best kept local secret... JQ's on High Thanks for making this video. It's neat seeing somebody appreciate the stuff we see everyday. We forget how great some of these monuments are because we do see them everyday.
Wow, the last three videos have covered the areas where I have grown up around. Looking forward to your next video on S.W MO, and Bentonville, AR as I live in Rogers now. Great videos!!
Good ol Jeff city. Where you were at we always referred to it as uptown. At the Capitol when you panned over to St. Peters church you can walk right in the Capitol building no security no guardsmen. Its silliness. The illusion of security . When you were in front where you entered the red building straight across from Thomas Jefferson is a Federal Court house. I enjoy every one of these videos you put out. Thank you.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to our city and state. The prison is also one of the most haunted places, don't know if that interests you. If you happen to come back this way during the warmer months, those fountains will be spraying. The fish centaurs are holding a giant snake and giant catfish, representing the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Also if you come back through during the warmer months, the Lake of the Ozarks is a popular destination.
When I was little the State Pen was still running, if you went to a spot up a hill (kind of where the new hospital is now) you used to be able to see the prisoners having recreation time in the yard. It's weird seeing someone walk around my hometown since it's so normal to me. Glad you enjoyed the architecture and landscaping on some of our buildings! And no everything wasn't closed for the holidays, it's normally that deserted XD
Glad you liked our state capitol. It does have some interesting features but I think a lot of Missourians consider Jeff City one step above cow town. Not much to do there. Columbia is my favorite city in the state (I live in a St. Louis suburb). There is a nice winery across the Missouri River from Jeff City in Holts Summit.
I do love cities that preserve their historic architecture, It's becoming less than less commonThanks for providing the touring. Wish it has been a sunny day out would have love to have seen how everything looks in nice weather. Which really helping to see the penitentiary too. Pardon the strange punctuation. I hurt my hand that I gotta use voice to text
Hahaha I just laugh when people talk about all the hills. They turn the fountains off in the winter. But they are quite remarkable in the summer time etc.
I used to live in Mount Vernon Missouri, in South West MO, not much there back then but that might of changed, but the town square was really nice I thought. There are quite a bit of Amish areas in the area too
You got some good video. The spooky haunted tour of the old prison . Sorry you didn't get to tour it. But maybe you can revisit. I think you might can get tickets ? I was gonna at one time but just freaked me out to much. I live 20 miles from The Capital City. Lots of Historic in my town and some cool things like Lovers leap. Afew run down places but some are getting remakes. Fulton Mo. Is my home Town. Jefferson City has some really cool houses. The River is very popular. You could go see Hermann while your close. It's a Greman town it early cool. My ancestors was some of the first to settle in Hermann , that was a shocker to me. Enjoy your trip. Loved your video. Happy Holidays.Spring is the best time to be where you are . It's beautiful with flowering trees and flowers.
I like Jeff City. I have been there several times while serving in the National Guard. There is a museum at the state National Guard headquarters off 63 highway.
these videos are awesome, so much history. Watching from New Zealand, America is huge, you can drive from top too bottom of the country in 2 days here XD, the old buildings are amazing
Nice town, I was surprised how well maintained the downtown buildings are, considering their age. I couldn't help but notice how low the river was, I knew the Mississippi was low but I guess rivers all around the country are low as well.

I just found your channel and I’m hooked !!! Lol I love traveling and sightseeing but don’t get too do much of it!!! I’m really enjoying the opportunity to see places I never heard of !!! Thanks for the time and effort put into it!!! 💕
Thank you, SJD!
Very informative video! Thanks for sharing. 😀
Another great video! A bit of a shame that the Capital itself wasn’t very lively and the the Prison itself was closed due to the upcoming holidays! But you always do such a good job giving every city a fair shake and provide good information. Can’t wait for the next one!
I was disappointed, Lee. I really wanted to see the inside of that prison.
Thanks!
Thank you, John!! :)
I look forward each day to seeing/learning more about the US. Thank you. Be safe in your travels. J
Loved the Video. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you guys. You have brought the country side of America a TH-cam the volume of work you are doing is incredible thank you very much. I hope you were making a living at this and can keep doing it.
Thank you, Don. :)
Another excellent video....... Merry Christmas n a healthy New Year..
Thank you!
That's the way I get it with landmarks, be closed. I like the Lewis and Clark Monument. Read about them in school. I'd like to live in Jefferson City. I enjoy seeing the capital building. Good seeing Nicole.
Thank you, Donald. :)
Thank you so much , Jefferson city is very Nice
I appreciate the time and effort you put into editing your videos
Thanks, Pete!
I love seeing the courthouse and Missouri State Capitol and the downtown streets. Another great video sir
Thank you!
Thank you, Stan!
@@geraldrhodes4114 Thanks for your reply.
One of my mother's brothers was named Gerald. Gerald Wesley Bibb. WW2 and Korean War Veteran.
I wish you would’ve explored more of JC than just mainly the downtown/east side :,( there’s so much more. So glad you had a good time here tho!
What a lovely looking city! And the interior of the capital looks almost like a set of a fantasy movie!
Guys, can we as viewers hope for a Christmas special from you?
Probably won't have time, and it seems it would be kind of boring. :(
The MISSOURI STATE CAPITAL is very beautiful
Interesting visit to the capitol of Missouri, equidistant between St Louis and Kansas City. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, Stephen. :)
Thankfully I never 'visited' a prison in Missouri 🤔
I was in Jefferson City 15 years ago to connect with a lady I met on the internet.
Congratulations on 200K subscribers. Keep up the great work. I'm improving my editing every video to produce great content like y'all do.
At the Capitol you didn't make the rookie mistake of actually walking those stairs 😂 good job
Prison Brews is a good choice but right across the street is the best kept local secret... JQ's on High
Thanks for making this video. It's neat seeing somebody appreciate the stuff we see everyday. We forget how great some of these monuments are because we do see them everyday.
New to your channel. I live in Missouri.😊. Great video❤
Thank you, Ava!!
Wow, the last three videos have covered the areas where I have grown up around. Looking forward to your next video on S.W MO, and Bentonville, AR as I live in Rogers now. Great videos!!
Cool! Bentonville is one of the most beautiful small towns I've seen.
That is a gorgeous city! From beginning to end it is beautiful! I wouldn't mind living there.
It really is.
Lovely tour. Was hoping to see the inside of the old prison. However, seeing the capitol was beautiful!
Wow, there’s alot of history here!!
Really capturing the Jeff city residents (I go to capital City High school)
Bentonville, AR is home to Crystal Bridges Art Museum. It's home to the best American Art in the World. Worth a trip!
I know that now! We visited it. It will be in the Bentonville video. :)
And all this time I thought St Louis was your capital! Informative video!
Thank you.
Thank you. :)
Up on a cliff?
They should’ve explored the amphitheater!!
You Are Amazing Bro, Iove your videos.
Wow, thank you, Rich. :)
Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas from Australia.
From Jeff, prison brews was a good choice. Should of went to the First Arris's Pizza location in front of the capitol, its amazing.
Arris pizza is the best thing about Jefferson City 🙂
Arris rocks!
Hahaha I just laugh when people talk about all the hills. They turn the fountains off in the winter. But they are quite remarkable in the summer time etc.
Found it, gonna give it a watch right now!
Nice to see a town where downtown is still vibrant. Good job.
Absolutely. I love downtowns like Jefferson City's. The best.
Thanks, Marla!
Thank you for the kind words, vini!
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip keep it up and enjoy your tip around the USA
Nice town, I was surprised how well maintained the downtown buildings are, considering their age. I couldn't help but notice how low the river was, I knew the Mississippi was low but I guess rivers all around the country are low as well.
They are. We drove across the Mississippi about three weeks earlier and I was shocked at how low it was.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip I forgot to mention, the addition of dining establishments to your travel videos is nice too! Ain't nothing like driving around all day to work up an appetite and finding a great place to eat. Thanks for sharing your trip with us! :)
I know. That makes me so sad (about the rivers).🥺
@@TurpInTexas Thank you, Jimmy!! 😀
Well Spoda...another finely done video my brother...Jefferson City is def my sized city that I enjoy visiting & again, the city is full of 1800's era homes and structures etc.,that I love as much as you do...and as far as the prison,I'm a firm believer in the death penalty so I would love to tour the Missouri state prison and learn about its history and the criminals who met there much deserved permanent dirt nap courtesy of the Missouri tax players...
Hola amigo. Excelente contenido!! Gran canal. Muchas Felicitaciones.
