- I review a surprise visit of the 2nd Generation Rivian R1S. Lots of little things to talk about. And, oh that door button!
Some specs from Rivian:
I’m still data gathering and learning more info:

• Updated exterior lighting with Adaptive Drive Beam system and RGB LEDs in the horizontal light bar.
• Interior: New materials and trim. These include exposed maple wood, brown stitching, accents of plaid textiles and ‘burnished bronze’
• Better energy management
• Enhanced and reengineered suspension (slightly smoother)
• New wheels and tires (no 21 inch wheels)
• 1.6 miles of wiring has been stripped out

The updated cameras, blind spot camera views and new unreal engine graphics are amazing!
it was immediately noticeable.
Absolutely agree!
2 of the 3 are coming to existing fleet
Most care coming to the OG so no need to buy the 2025
Thank you for this content on the Gen2
Thanks for watching!
Sorry for photobombing one of your shots. 🤣
Some really nice improvements. Not enough to make me want to upgrade but very nice. I can't wait for the next software update for the Gen1 R1. One thing that is disappointing is that we're hearing that we can't control the lighting on the Gen 1 like they're doing on the Gen2. The Gen 1 has RGB lights, so that makes no sense.
They backtracked on that and will have that control in Gen 1
Handle for the door is for emergency purposes, similar to Tesla
This is the dual motor version of the R1 S.
Any idea when the full zoot quad motor is being released? Over 1000 hp and 1200 ftlbs tq is crazy.

Too bad they didn't bring the new steering wheel controls to the R1S Gen 2 that they previewed in the R2 and R3 models. I guess that will be a Gen 3 upgrade?
I thought about that as well. Yeah, the new R2 steering is pretty sweet. I guess they need to keep something for that release!
They could have at least given the test doors some shades. Like it’s such an easy update that every single suv out there has
Im on the edge of buying one R1S, but unsure on two things? How low it could be driven? the garage dor on my work is only 2,0mtrs on a slope, son probably have like 1,85mts effectively.
The second quiestion is if the navigation systema would work overseas (South America)... I have a tesla here, it works perfectly fine, updates, GPS, connectivity.. but the Built in Navigation. Would the rivian be the same?
I think you’d be fine with the height limit, but double check the specs online that talk about exact site measurement against your garage door. About the overseas navigation, no idea for sure, but my gut tells me it wouldn’t work all that well. I don’t have first-hand experience with that though.
Gen 1.2 as others call it on the forums because customer facing the changes are small, or even decontented.
What the deal with heads up display?
I haven’t heard anything about that.
Wish they had the Tesla standard charging ports. Guess that might come out end of year or early next.
Yeah, not sure if we’ll see them on the R1. There may be some hardware reasons for that. But definitely on the R2 and beyond. That’s just me speculating though, but I will say that the R2 does have the new NACS port.
Rivian told us the camp speaker will work if you charge it in your house using a laptop power cord. Then it plays for 3 hours. Then recharge. The R1s don't provide enough power to the camp speaker to fully charge it to play properly.
😮
No air compressor in the back
Unreal Engine graphics!
The air compressor will be a $650 option for the refresh.
Hey….good to see you posting some content!! It’s been a minute. Always enjoy your videos!! Hope you post more soon. Thanks for this update on the Gen 2’s. Looks like a nice update both ‘under the hood’ and some nice exterior refinements.
Is that right? I didn’t notice. I guess that changes the spare tire situation as well
@@myost33 thanks for hanging in there. Yeah life is a challenge lately. And this is a project for the love not for the money. :-)
