    A super quick modern Turbo 911 vs. a much slower air cooled car? I own both. Which one do I prefer? Watch the video to see.

    Great video and beautiful 997 Turbo. I have a 2009 997.1 Turbo with the tiptronic, not because I don't like a 6 speed MT (I have that in my C2 Cab) but because of the power of the Turbo. With my Kline exhaust mine is about 525Hp, the tip is is a great transmission for this car, you really need to keep both hands on the wheel and not having to work thru the gears is kind of refreshing at those high revs and speed. Enjoy your Turbo!

    • @Rennthusiast

      I can see what you mean by having full attention on the wheel at high revs. There’s A LOT to manage when the car is at WOT in the higher RPM range which is where I am coming from with my thoughts on the manual.
      Thanks for watching!

    The 997.1 Turbo in 6 Speed is the greatest Turbo of all time. Mezger + 6 Speed is absolute perfection. I also feel that it’s the real successor (in styling) to the classic 993Turbo. Perfect size. Beautiful design. Modern classic that is under priced at the moment.

    I testdrive both the manual and tiptronic 997.1 turbo.
    Im usually a manual driver but for this car i prevered the tiptronic more and thats the one i bought!
    It takes a little time to learn how the tt reacts, but for this power its the better choise, you can hear people say bla bla bla the manual is the one but if your not on the track monthly the tt is the one!
    Also its easyer to tune becouse the tt is much stronger.
    My tip, if you wanne buy one, dont let the internet tell you and try both!!
    Anyway its the last real 911 whith the Mezger engine and they will be desirable...( so get one now)

    I think you would have enjoyed the driving experience a lot more in the 996. It's the closest thing you can get to the classic 911 experience with a water cooled car, and the lights happen to look pretty good on the GT1 as it took the checkered flag at Le Mans.

  • @Jonoponomono

    Great review, could the slow rev drop be due to emissions controls? I asked about this with a manual Golf R that I owned and was told it was due to the turbo still pushing fuel/air when you lift off the accelerator, so they keep the engine lit to burn the fuel or it overloads the catalytic converter. I don't know if this is true but all modern manuals I have driven have a slow rev drop compared to my older cars.

    I have a 997.2 C4S with PDK and I'm completely in love with it. But my dream car is 997.2 Turbo S. I'd love a video comparing and contrasting your Turbo vs C4S experience. Some guys say the minor Turbo lag makes the C4S more fun, they like the exhaust on the C4S too. I've had several guys say I'd be disappointed in the Turbo. I've always wondered because The Turbo is a fair bit more money and I'd hate to have buyer's remorse

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mountain Rally Productions plus’s and minus’s with the turbo. Without question the lag is there and there’s no getting around it. The boost coming on is insane though.
      I do miss the exhaust note of a NA car when I’m in the turbo.
      Thanks for the content idea. I’ll add it to the list. Thanks also for watching.

      @sutherlacd27 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The turbos make full boost around 3k rpm. If you are driving hard you will be above 3k rpm and rarely experience lag with the vtgs. And the exhaust is quiet when stock. But sounds fantastic with a 3" aftermarket setup

    Great honest review. I have a 2009 with the factory aero kit that I’ve owned for 10 years now. I’ve put almost 30k miles on it in all conditions. Lowered and cambered but I do a lot of track events with it. Over revs, lol. Push it to the max and enjoy the heck out of it. It can take much more than you could ever give it on the street. Best car I’ve ever owned and I will never get rid of it.
    Thanks and keep up the good content.

    Great choice, last of the Mezger engine! The 6 speed manual is definitely the way to go with a gen 1, however I’d go PDK with the gen 2 for the reason you were describing. Think about this, Porsche wasn’t even offering a manual in the 991 GT3! As for the Tip, I won’t even go there.

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, with all due respect to those who own a tip, I don’t get it. PDK is an interesting - and performing improving - experience but having a tip on a 911 seems to me to be a waste of a great car. Values reflect that, I think.

    I see you sold this one, but I learned from my sportbikes a long, long time ago that driving one the way it was meant to be driven on the street is a futile attempt and becomes very boring. At least if you value having your driving license. So I get the air cooled stuff. Wring out a slower car to redline and not shatter the speed limit in something more viseral and raw.

    That feeling when it revs after you depress the clutch is a tuning thing, it is not like this when stock.

      Interesting. Do you think it’s harmful or just a characteristic you have to accept?

    • @pr0sty
      @pr0sty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rennthusiast I cannot really say but I've seen this in other tuned cars, I have an 09 997.1 manual and it is like you say very quick to rev up (I kept hitting the limiter in the beginning) but it does not continue to rev up after I press down the clutch, it is probably a throttle pedal sensitivity thing on the tune. Maybe check this with other ppl using the same tune. I will go with Markskis tune.

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the quick response.
      I could probably live with the factory set up and may investigate how to remove the tune. I am not a big tuner guy so don’t have a lot of experience with it. Thanks again.

    • @pr0sty
      @pr0sty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rennthusiast Could also be that your gas pedal is a bit slow, how is it when you rev it on idle, does it tone down immediately after you let go off the throttle?
      The tune is a good thing, it makes the car as it should be from factory. But if you are not happy with the way it handles between geards then I'd consider removing it. I will have the option to go back to stock. I am running a Europipe stage 2 exhaust so I really want the power :)

  • @PorscheTVRtvr
    @PorscheTVRtvr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Will,
    I also have a porsche 3.2 and a 997.2 GT3. You cannot compare both cars. The handling and howling of a GT3's naturally aspirated engine is quite different from the charm of an old air-cooled 3.2. That's why I like both cars.
    I would keep the original rims under your turbo and lower it slightly. I would also consider a sports exhaust. See www.europipe.be This Belgian company makes really beautiful exhausts for turbos by hand.
    Does your car have an aux connection? If not, I advise you to purchase a Bluetooth transmitter that connects to your tuner via your 12 volt connection. This solution with which you can stream costs almost nothing and works perfectly.
    Good that you bought a manual turbo. They retain their value better and driving is much more fun.
    Best regards!

      Agree. I got impatient when I was searching and compromised which I later regretted. It was too bad. GORGEOUS car.
      Had the car been manual it would have been a keeper.
      That said, I think I also prefer the C2(S) to an AWD in the NA cars. You need AWD in the turbo to get the power down. In the C4S it ended up making the front end feel slightly heavy and it was hard to get to the “almost out of control but not really” threshold that’s easier to attain in, for example, my 993.
