  • I really like the COSMIC desktop but what I especially like is the way that System76 is interacting with the community and handling people in media positions.

I feel like COSMIC is doing its best to be THE linux desktop environment. It seems like everything System76 is doing is handled with care not just for themselves and Pop_os, but the broader community whether it's community outreach, trying to make COSMIC flexible so that distros can do what they want, or even just considering feature requests from users.

    They are doing everything right.
I am currently daily driving the Alpha 2...
and i know its only been a few days, but man i really havent noticed many major bugs.
i used hyprland before switching to cosmic and i swear my current cosmic is working just like my hyprland.
i have all the same keybinds and i use it just like i used hyprland.
the only difference is that i didnt have to code anything. cosmic allows me to have a tiling window manager experience with a gui setup. i even disabled the dock, moved the panel to the bottom, etc. it literally is just a tiling WM now. without one line of code. Cosmic gave me what ive always wanted.
i will say though, to be fair to hyprland....hyprland looks a lot better. it has better visuals and animations.
but for Cosmic to only be an Alpha, this is sick. if anyone from Cosmic is listening...
add some gui settings for visuals/animations (if possible), and add a way to customize our login/lock screen (like a swaylock), and ALMOST every linux user will probably end up using Cosmic once it officially releases.
You guys have done awesome work and the Linux community appreciates you!

I've been running Cosmic DE on Tumbleweed since they got the repo running on Alpha 1. I did a clean load with it alone on Tumbleweed right after Alpha 2 came out. It still has a lot broken and missing, but I see updates on the repo almost daily, so I have absolutely no complaints with the progress that is being made.
After using things like Konsole, Kate, Dolphin, due to all the nice features, I really miss those things in the Cosmic app, but at least they are no longer locked into the Gnome apps and can add features at will.

Brodie, would you use your contacts at System76 ans ask them to make a 21 inch laptop, please?
Edit: and, while you're at it, please ask for it to have a mechanical keyboard.
