This incredible moment of an opportunistic leopard stealing a crocs meal right out of its mouth was filmed by Nicole Dangoor, a wildlife film-maker at the Bush Camp Company.
She shared this incredible sighting with LatestSightings.com, and tells the story.
Nicole was joined by a group of safari visitors on a night drive in the South Luangwa National Park. They stopped to watch a couple of crocodiles who were in the middle of a feast when a leopard crept closer to the crocodile with the bulk of the food, seemingly interested in what the crocodile had in its mouth.
As the light was shunning on the crocodile for a better view for the guests, the opportunistic leopard risked the chance and started biting and clawing at the pieces of meat dangling from the croc’s mouth, pulling out pieces of the meat and eating it!
After a few mouths-full, the leopard attempted one final claw, grab and bite and managed to pull what looks like a whole impala leg from the crocodile. This seemed like a fair enough portion for the leopard as it ran off into the distance to eat in peace. As the light from the safari visitors followed the leopard into the thicket, the crocodiles took the opportunity to make a break for the bushes to eat what was left of the meal.

@@INFINITE-AMMO Opportunistic as most animals are... this was another cat that was well aware of its own abilities and what it can get away with. It knows it's faster than the crocs, so why not take a bite or two?

That croc must have fallen asleep eating.
No it was awake. It just closes it's eyes everytime the leopard comes up to it. It is bracing for impact and protecting it's eyes

@@cintronproductions9430 Could also be that the croc's not going to drop its food to chase off the leopard; that's asking to get the whole kill stolen.
@@justinvarghese6852 One other reason is, much as it is tough, animals are brilliant, they know one another very well. The crocodile rarely if ever, take on big cats on land, the very animals the crocs would tackle easily in the water.
Smart as hell. They both know that if the croc decides to try to bite the leopard, it would loosen its grip on the meat and the leopard would most likely be quick enough to evade the bite while also stealing an even bigger piece than it did here.

Smiv doubt it. If the crocodile attacked the leopard it would force the leopard to distance himself with the croc which also distances himself from the meat. The croc would be guarding his food so there would be no opening for the leopard to take some meat.

@@masxedsyfirspyrul9189 I strongly disagree. Jaguars kill crocodiles quite often, and leopards only have 0.2% less bite force than a jaguar while also being more intelligent and agile. If the croc tried to go for a bite, the leopard could easily take some meat while backing off. And if the two animals did get into a fight to the death, on land the leopard would definitely win. Jaguars can beat crocodiles in water so on land I doubt the croc would be able to do much.

Honestly I think The Croc is full and can not fight off the leopard and is willing to let it take some of the food off his mouth.
my guess was that it was too cold to do anything and had his fair share of food so he saved energy and only ran because another croc challenged him and he must have been the dominant croc if he had that much food

@@sionc1372 No if you pay attention, you'll see the croc closes it's eyes everytime the leopard comes up. It's a reflex, just trying to protect it's eyes

This leopard must have been starving to be brazen enough to steal straight out of the croc's mouth.
Not really starving, just normally hungry. In the jungle this happens quite often. Jackals do sometimes jump in and grab a piece from the lion pride's kill, while crows have been known to pick-pocket an eagle off some scrabs... Modes operandi = just alertness, agility and some little bravery. Needless to say... I have once seen it backfire, when a crow ended up in the eagle's talons.
