Hogwarts is trademarked. I wouldn't use that on any POD merch.
That’s what I was thinking. I’m not sure about the Deathly Hallows symbol either.
I think using the font is good enough to convey the idea of Harry Potter without getting into trademark issues.

I would think the Harry Potter-styled shirt does violate copyright/trademark, along with the glasses, text font, etc, the name of the school they all went to is Hogwarts.
yep, while the lightning bolt and glasses *might* get a pass, "Hogwarts" pushes it over the line. And the Deathly Hallows symbol *might* be protected as well

Hey Joe, effective Jan 1 2024, Steamboat Willie goes into public domain. Other Disney Characters will follow suit in the next few years (Donald, Goofy etc), as well as other versions of Mickey Mouse. Do you expect POD will explode with Disney characters that enter public domain and how that will affect Etsy, Amazon etc
I wonder if Disney will attempt to prevent that

I agree on all but not on the Harry Potter design. The name "Hogwarts" is a name that exists only in the Harry Potter universe. So... I don't think that will be ok.

I would stay away from that Harry Potter shirt as Hogwarts is the school that Harry attends.
Hey Joe, can you all release a video not from the beginning perspective but from those who have already gotten into it seem some success such as a small yet regular sales and go over more helpful things to avoid major mistakes such as LLC, Sales tax registation, taxes, and other things. i'll be honest those mostly what made me nervous the most not the success but the fear of the success just to know i succeed the WRONG way

That Harry Potter shirt screams Harry Potter and not just because it has Hogwarts on it. The glasses, the lightning bolt, and the symbol for the deathly hallows all scream Harry Potter.

@brainswashedthisway tbh, I don’t love this likeness used for a logo either. Maybe, as a one off design for a shirt, a parody, I wouldn’t see as “wrong.” However, for a logo, i don’t like the choice, legal or not.
I noticed that too! As far as I know, art styles are not trademarked in any way. Even though the cartoon in question looks very similar to Eric Cartman, it doesn’t have any obvious recognizable features like his iconic blue and yellow hat, for example. It could probably be argued in court that any resemblance is coincidental, but it’s grey area, for sure. I’m not an expert on this stuff but I did study art in school and have done my own research.. From my understanding, if you are not taking obvious iconography, copyrighted words, phrases or logos… and the image or words are altered enough to give you ‘plausible deniability’.. you could probably skirt the lines a little bit. That’s the difference between intellectual property theft and using something as ‘inspiration’ to create something new. It’s kind of a nuanced subject really…. I hope that adds a little more understanding.
