I just finished setting up an outdoor mini pond using an old claw foot bathtub
Man white clouds are the best.
They really are. And so enjoyable in these little ponds, such a natural way to observe them. I saw one eat an unlucky ant that fell in my pond yesterday. Looked like a mini bass striking it!
@@sunbearsunday750 I left my longfins in a 300 gallon stock tank over the winter. It got down to -15 here in Kansas over the winter and they were totally fine in the spring.

Yep, they're def underrated. Even the standard variety are a showy addition with the subdued red and 'reflective' strip
How do they hold up in heat? I’m in north Texas, and so far I have Medaka Ricefish, which I’ve read can withstand heat, but I want to add another species.
Just wrapped up my first deck pond build with golden white clouds! So far so good!
Got a 45 gal tub with golden whiteclouds love them! Floaters and some crypts. All doing well. It is my first time trying dirt. I dirted it and capped with sand. Sponge filters. Nice pond you have here looks great! 👍

I set up a small/medium sized one in September last year and now it's the heart of winter over here right now and some of the plants aren't faring so well (particularly 'fish mint'), but it's been interesting to see what does take and do well. Just gotta give it a go (:

I really wanted to do a pond this year but some events happen where my money went somewhere else.
A little garden around it. Veggies and stuff. Maybe aquaponic filtration. A big 300 gallon pond.

you should add a couple of snails to try to clean up some more of the dead plant matter you couldnt quite get to

season 2 of 100g & 160g stock tank ponds here! my comets overwintered well, but the ice-pocalypse in February (zone 8b Austin does NOT get ice like that ever) destroyed my plants. I've been slowly adding back as I could.

Love your ponds and water garden segments. You always do an amazing job and the plants are so beautiful. I'm thinking of doing a small planted pond for my patio with maybe a few male guppies. I like the shape of the tub you're using but have some concerns. Have you had an issue with fish death due to the galvanized tub leaching zinc? I know there's an epoxy paint for ponds that you can use to coat inside of tub. Maybe your water is hard enough that its not an issue but my water is very soft.

I have a 55g pond liner I got for free. I’ll find pump for it this year. Next year I’ll lay out the new garden scape incorporating the pond and a new rose bush. I’m afraid to fish in the pond though. I feel like it will just feed the local cats. lol
I'm on Season 3 this year. Just upgraded to a 50 gallon tub after figuring out the other 2 tubs I got were toxic! I'll have Guppies, Platies (first time with these this year), Gold White Clouds, and possibly some Red Cherry Shrimp. I'm doing a few types of floating plants and I'm trying Vallisneria for the first time this year. I have to do a wite mesh top to keep the Raccoons out, for sure.
How is it going and how do u keep temp in check?
@@kinge2853 Mine did decent this year. I'm in Southern California so the temps don't get too cold in the winter.

I set up a 300 gallon pond on my patio with a 100gallon bog filter. The big pond has 2 turtles and 6 perch/ bluegill in it. The bog filter has 8 guppies in it and trying to find some cherry shrimp local

Would you suggest outdoor patio ponds with cats in and around the house?
The only things that I hate about doing them is that my neighbors cats come and destroy it or I find dragonfly larvae. Great video by the way. 👍

What are some good FULL SHADE plants I can put in my corner water feature? I have corner water feature on my front porch, made out of stacked bricks/paver stones and lined with a pond liner. It's about 40-50 gallons or so, and i have 5 goldfish that have been living in there for about 3 years. It's got a pond fountain pump in the center, and I also have a good hang-on-back filter system running, modified for the porch-pond. It all seems to be doing well, but I'd really like to add some live plants......but it gets NO direct sun!
