Thank you! Finally, I see my question has been answered as to whether or not the hitch would clear the odd bypass valve thing on the LL Bean mufflers. Thanks again for all of your videos! They've been life (and money) savers for maintenance on my 2004 LL Bean. Keep up the great work!
How about a future video on "How to Have Your OB Towed", ie. a dead battery/alt or other mechanical failure. I know the Gen4 vehicles have an eyebolt that can be threaded in the front/rear. You could also talk about how in the Owner's Manual (Gen4) it talks about using the doughnut spare tire, and how it is only supposed to be used in a specific position {front or back, I forget} and how you would have to move a good tire to the flat position, and then the spare to that position. Maybe it's common knowledge, but I only knew of it when I looked through the owner's manual. Nice video. Thanks!!!
Hey man just installed my trailer hitch on my 98 legacy gt. The install was slightly different but i got the idea to do it from you! Im gonna be hauling a bass boat, cargo trailer, and hopefully of i can find them cheap...a pair of jetskis that'd be pretty sweet.
I came by your channel because I have recently become interested in purchasing a used Subaru. After years of Jeeps and Harleys, I'm getting off the bike and looking to get into a little less severe off-roading habit, so Subaru seems to fit the bill. Less expensive than used Jeeps and better gas mileage. Much to my surprise, we don't seem to live to far apart (Tryon, NC), so my questions is, do you sell Subarus that you rebuild or do you have a repair shop in the Upstate? I have to admit that I have watched a handful of your videos, and subscribed, but I haven't been able to tell if you are a hobbyist or this is what you do for a living. By the way, I'm pouring through your videos now and really enjoy your knowledge and no BS approach.
In terms of the different towbar hatch designed the installation might be different. My Subaru need to remove the entire rear bumper while mounting on the towbar.
As usually great informational tutorial! Quick question, in terms of towing with Subaru occasionally high loads let say something overloaded like trailer with car, what would be the best bet to go, what would you recommend for such case? Would it be good enough BH/BE5 with H6 or newer 05-09 Outback with H6, or maybe 3.6 H6 Tribeca? Or XT models ? Taken in mind improvements in engine and transmission cooling and upgraded beakes . Great appreciate your suggestions.
Or.....if you live in Maine, all of the bolts and brackets are one big blob of rust and you need to get out the dremel and find some new brackets and hardware. Been there, done that.
Do you think a 4 cylinder outback of this generation could handle towing? I'm looking at towing a 900 pound 5x8 cargo trailer from Reno, NV to Columbus, OH. Around 1500 pounds total between trailer and load.
Do you have a forum or something I could ask for help/opinion on (and not spam up a video comment with my question)? I have an H6 VDC i'm having a hell of an electrical problem with ....
If I were to purchase a receiver hitch for my 1998 Subaru Legacy Brighton (wagon) how much would reasonable to expect a mechanic to charge for an install?
Can you please do one using a modern outback with CVT? People say towing with them destroys the transmission. If this is true, how the heck do Subaru get away with selling them?
Is this something my local Subaru dealer would install or do I need to do it myself with an after-market hitch? I've read that Subaru doesn't recommend towing with their vehicles.
No, brake upgrade as in different compound pads and upgraded rotors for the outback. A brake controller is for the larger trailers. I'll be installing a 4 pin brake harness for the light on my Outback. Won't be towing a trailer with brakes.
You can likely find the install instructions online. This was one I pulled off a parts car. Was able to locate the installation instructions, with the torque specs, on Google.
Outback, this Gen, is rated for 1,000lb towing a trailer without brakes. 2,000lb trailer with brakes. An upgraded clutch is always better for towing situations than the OE clutch.
*HEY MR.SUBARU* I HAVE A CODE FOR P1710 AND P1700 FOR TRANSMISSION, C0045 INCORRECT VDC CONTROL MODULE AND CODE 26 FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG FAILURE PLEASE HELP btw its a 2009 legacy 3.0r
The tow rating of an Outback is such that adding a tranny cooler, upgrading the brakes, etc., while not harmful (to anything but your wallet), strikes me as total overkill.

You're welcome!
Would love to see a video on installing a transmission cooler!
I second that!

I do sale Subarus as I fix them. Usually only a few a year though.
Nice and thank you! Question answered!
Can you install a tow hitch on a Hawkeye wrx?
Will that outback hitch fit a 2005 Forester there's one on a salvage outback.
In terms of the different towbar hatch designed the installation might be different. My Subaru need to remove the entire rear bumper while mounting on the towbar.
Keep the knowledge going Mr Subaru. Can I tow a small camper with over 200k ? 03 outback 3.0 ll bean never tow anything before on vehicle ?
We shall see, I'm about to start towing a lawn mower trailer and lawn tractor with 293k miles on the clock. Haha.
Bought the Curt hitch for my 2004 Outback. The hitch only aligns with the bigger holes, not the smaller ones. Seems concerning.
Nice intro!

Does this work for a forester?
Excellent video's, thanx. Transferred a little gift for you with paypal
Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate it. 👍🏻

Can2019 forester tow 2500
Will a 2000-04 hitch bolt up on a '96-'99 outback?
Could u tow a small pop up camper?

Late I know, but what did you do about the hitch pushing up on the bottom of the bumper or body piece.
Please, which mode is good for towing with the new outbacks ?
Now I am wondering how much will dealer charge it? I got a 2019 Forester

What about the wiring?
Will this trailer receiver fit my 2001 Subaru Outback
Yes. This is 2000-2004 models.
Sweet thanks I’ve seen different ones online more square shaped
That muffler it’s factory one why all that on the side of it?
It's specific to the H6 Outbacks.
MrSubaru1387 no idea what made for?
@@jangonzalez5627 some valving.
Thanks for the great work 👍🏻
What are the modifications you need to do if you have manual transmission ?
Nothing, unless your clutch is old. I'd recommend a slightly more potent clutch than stock in that case.
What about the tow lights in some states it’s law to have them on and working
Install in another upcoming video.

Subaru offers and sells towing packages and will install receiver hitches. Shouldn't be an issue.
What about the electrical wiring connections for the trailer?
Covered in future video.
Greetings from chile
Greetings!
So part three would be about installing a trailer brake controller correct? What are you going to do about trailer lights without one?
No, brake upgrade as in different compound pads and upgraded rotors for the outback. A brake controller is for the larger trailers. I'll be installing a 4 pin brake harness for the light on my Outback. Won't be towing a trailer with brakes.
Do you still have those parts outbacks by chance? I really need seat covers for my 02 ll bean that I'm restoring
I do. No L.L.Beans though, just VDC models. Solid tan seats.
@@MrSubaru1387 I have a vdc too and I like those seats better than the 2 tone anyways
@@MrSubaru1387 your channel is actually what helped me build up the courage to to the water pump on my vdc
@@MrSubaru1387 would you be willing to sell the seats or the covers off them though?
Hey do you know the procedure for a factory Subaru one I bought one used and didn't take it off myself
You can likely find the install instructions online. This was one I pulled off a parts car. Was able to locate the installation instructions, with the torque specs, on Google.
The trailer lights harness??
Another video. 👍🏻
What about ams kevlar clutch? Rock auto has it under heavy duty/towing for my 07 outback. Do you think the stock one can handle it okay?
Outback, this Gen, is rated for 1,000lb towing a trailer without brakes. 2,000lb trailer with brakes. An upgraded clutch is always better for towing situations than the OE clutch.
@@MrSubaru1387 Thanks!
Would this work for a 98 impreza outback sport???
I'm sure it's a similar installation.

You’re not going anywhere with that until you install wiring for the lights. Please finish the job.
