Murphy really showed respect to the songs and Alex’s solos. I feel Alex doesn’t return in kind. But as a lifelong fan. The Murphy era is just as important to me as the earlier days.
I was lucky enough to catch this same lineup during this tour at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis. Pretty much the same set list. Incredible show. I'm so thankful for all of the great music that Testament has given us over all these years!
Love seeing James Murphy playing with Testament. (Low, The Gathering), but even to see him play stuff from Demonic. Also Dave & Steve playing songs from Demonic. Makes more sense than Alex, Greg playing songs from those 3 albums, i love this heavy brutal Testament
I seen this tour late summer 99 in a very small venue in Cincy called Annie's. THE best show I've ever witnessed. Just seen them again May 7. This footage proves that they were just as tight, rehearsed & on point as I remember. Testament never disappoint! 🤘
one word: ICONIC! What an album, what a drummer, what a period for Testament! And all of that while playing to 1000 people to.. 350 many times.. And in general I think it was one of the very best periods for heavy music. So much experimentation so many great and different albums that we took for granted: from Nevermore, Iced Earth and Paradise Lost to the Roadrunner bands like Fear Factory, Type O and Slipknot... to the big death metal scene and then 2 thousand more bands from Sweden 🤤 Meshuggah, Darkane and In Flames leading the way and and .... ALL HAIL 🤟 and so many thanks for the video man, you rule!!!

Only a minute or two into the opening song, the audience can't be fooled, they know an apex predator on percussion like,"The Beast" Lombardo when they hear it! --The jig is up Dave, He takes off the poor attempt of a disguise. * I don't know if they purposely tried to keep it hush until show time but I'd be fucking stoked to get THAT surprise! *AND then...James Murphy to boot?! FuK-HYeeaah! ....(wait, What happened Alex?) Anyway, fuck it lets all get up on stage like we did ol skool DayZ?
So Let’s see…Return to Apocalyptic City, Formation of Damnation, Shovel Headed Kill Machine? Those are the low points for Testament and Exodus? Call me crazy but I think those albums are quite great. One can argue Slayer without Lombardo wasn’t as good but the other bands didn’t downgrade with Bostaph.
Bostaph was great in all those bands. Diabolus was Slayer's low point and it wasn't because of the drums that is for sure. And I'll take Shovel Headed Kill Machine over 95% of Exodus' other albums

Both Alex and James are amazing guitarists, I love them both. James was the perfect replacement for Alex.
