- What is Hydro Assist? In this video I will attempt to explain Hydro Assist. Hydro assist is what we use on some Jeep vehicles for easier turning of the wheels and tires while playing in the large rocks that you'll find offroad. By applying a hydraulically operated ram to your steering setup and with a little modification to your steering gear box, you wont have to fight your steering wheel anymore.

Wish this was a newer video and you were still giving it away, I’m about to have a major reconstructive surgery on my shoulder and that’s off the surgeon can even fix it. Only having one arm is getting in the way of doing my one ton swap. Already had to pay a guy for my motor swap, if my arm wasn’t messed up it wouldn’t be an issue doing all of it myself. I'm building my 99 xj classic for a trip to parks around the country and funds are hard to come by for me. With my larger tiers, Utilizing a hydro assist kit would defiantly provide me peace of mind. Knowing I wont induce added stress on my stock steering components while going across country makes the already momentous endeavor more enjoyable in the end. I simply would love to win this giveaway and save much needed funds for travel costs. Even If I'm already late on this. So I noticed you didn't explain the pitman arm. Does this mean you delete the pitman arm, you no longer need it, correct ?

No need for both
i'm thinking only assist, because it will act as a damper also.
Thanks for the description. Power steering seems enough for a typical truck or van. This hydro assist seems like it's for huge monster trucks pulling huge heavy loads?

Love your videos bro! Question: What size axles do I use to run 40” tires on a WJ with a 6.5” IR lift and long arm kit from trail forge??? Or is it better to just re-gear?? Matt. With 35s on my yj. Should i run stock box or durango box with ram assist. You the man bro
Typical systems have two other components on top of what you described here. A cooler and a larger pump. I'm looking at doing this upgrade but if I need these other components I'll need to save a little more. I'm looking at using the single side assist sck2200 that psc makes. Do I need to add a cooler, larger reservoir, or larger power steering pump to my jeep yj to accommodate this smaller ram assist? Btw your videos are awesome and hilarious!
At what point should you consider doing a hydro assist? Size tires axles? Does the tie rod need to be reinforced?
somewhere around 35-37" or larger if you are doing serious offroad. You will want aftermarket steering for sure!

I've been thinking about getting the hydro assist for wheeling purposes however i also daily my rig. Does this affect driving daily, thinking about hwy speed and such???

dont you need a larger power steering fluid tank to run hydro assist??
Not necessarily, if you have overheating issues then maybe but you can also just extent the cap with a large hose on the top of the reservoir.

Hey Matt this is a super old video but I just wanted to ask you, if you could theoretically just put a “T” fitting on the hydraulic hoses that go to your steering gearbox and not have to drill n tap your box? 🤔 big fan love your vidjas
