I did like your take on Hilton Coliseum being like a welcome home for the Cyclones. However, it isn’t named after the hotel chain. It’s named after James H. Hilton who was university president of Iowa State from 1953-1965 and pushed for the construction of what would become the Iowa State Center, of which the Coliseum is a part.
Well they're supposed to start sponsoring football separately next fall. Doesn't really help that we're in the middle of a conference realignment cycle
I wish that the ASUN and WAC would form a more permanent cross league for football that the AQ7 is now, but not as an automatic qualifying exclusive league

It really came from SFA, SHSU, ACU, and Lamar getting kicked out of the Southland conference a year early. If other conferences get automatic bids for their winners then we need to as well to make sure there is guaranteed representation from our conferences.

My takes. I’ve been to Hilton and Allen field house. Hilton is very energetic and has one of the loudest crowds. Allen field house is like a museum for basketball. Both incredible facilities

Fun fact: The United Supermarkets Arena was recently voted on by Big 12 players as their favorite arena in the conference. This is likely because of the extremely hostile yet fun environment that Texas Tech has grown for the past few years.

Fun fact: the scalloped roof of the WVU Coliseum is designed to reflect crowd noise onto the floor. Which makes for a very intimidating atmosphere for basketball at the expense of being rather crap as a concert venue.
Graduated in the baylor gold dome (Ferrell Center) and am jealous of the new arena plans, but happy they are updating so many facilities. BU sports is a potent group of athletes in all food groups. SIC EM. 2021 Mens Bball national champs and Big12 FB champs 🏆 💪
Great summary. You missed something about Gallagher-Iba, however. The current building isn't nearly as old as the school likes to claim. They built an entirely new building around the old one, then tore the old building down specifically to claim it's the same place.
I studied tech during deep playoff run we had couple years ago. Man I gotta best environment for Basketball. Very hostile but still very respectful. Big thanks to Chris Beard for creating such atmosphere.
my understanding was that beard thought the USA was too big (like he does for UTs facility) and wanted Hocutt to tarp over the upper level to create the atmosphere he wanted (he prefers arenas with about 7500 seats). The donors and Kirby shut him down. I am glad however he didnt make it an issue once he got shut down. Alex Achorn (basketball ops at ttu) and Raider Riot (specifically Arif Ljuso the initial president of the student org) are the real heroes around all the great events that bring people to the USA. Beard just had to play along even though he wasnt on board.
BYU about to be added to the conference and will have the largest basketball and football (once Texas and OU leave) stadiums in the BIG 12. Not saying that BYU will win every game by any stretch of the imagination, but I think BIG 12 fans will be surprised by the atmosphere in Provo, and some of the wins they will get because of their home court advantage. It gets crazy loud.
Allen Fieldhouse is truly a special venue! The arena is named after the Father of Basketball Coaching, Phog Allen, while the court is named after James Naismith, the inventor of basketball and the school's first basketball coach! Allen Fieldhouse is arguably the Mecca of basketball!

TCU also uses Dickies Arena just up the road once a season, usually around this time. It only has Panther City Lacross Club as a permanent tenant at the moment (just gonna drop "NLL venues" off as another video idea, here) but Dickies Arena has TCU as a partner, as you can see the school's logo and advertising on the west side of the concourse.
The Big 12 currently only have 10 teams which is odd because Missouri and Texas A&M left for the SEC, Colorado to the Pac 12, and Nebraska to the Big 10. In the same year both 4 of those teams left the conference. 2 new teams joined. TCU and West Virginia. Soon Texas and Oklahoma are leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, so it would seem we would have 8, but in 2023, 4 teams will join the Big 12! Those teams are Cincinnati, Houston, Central Florida, and Brigham Young! So soon we will back to 12!
The Frank Erwin Center opened in 1977 and was nicknamed the "Superdrum" for its shape. Originally the lower tier was oval like the rest of the bowl, and the stands were darkened like the LA Forum, presenting basketball as theater. More recently the lower tier was altered to be closer to the action while luxury suites were added. Next year's replacement is the Moody Center, located between Erwin and the football/track stadiums. It will hold 10,000 for basketball and 16,000 for concerts.
Can you do a video of the UK's best indoor arenas please? e.g. Glasgow's Emirates Arena, the O2 Arena, Wembley Arena, SSE Arena Belfast etc. We don't have a big indoor sports league but we do have some good indoor arenas.
For the heck of it, since the Big XII currently isn't as big as the other Power 5 conferences, you could've padded this video with the incoming UCF, Cincinnati, BYU, and Houston.

The new Moody Center is the best venue for basketball in the Big XII. No games have been played there yet, but it is spectacular place.

Dickies Arena is the permanent home of Fort Worth Stock Show and AAC basketball tournament though
