Fun fact about Flowers Hall. There is an Olympic pool down in the basement below the court. I’m not sure if they still offer the class, but back when I went to school they held a PADI dive class down there. One of the only A’s I received while enrolled 😅 lol.
Bellarmine was only promoted to Division 1 of the NCAA in the fall of 2020. Playing in Freedom Hall is actually holdover from covid times since instead of having a restricted capacity on campus for their first D1 season, they chose to bring their entire season ticket base into the larger arena.
0:58 From 1970 to 1976, Freedom Hall was also the home to the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association. Despite putting up a good showing during their time there, they unfortunately weren't one of the teams included in the merger with the NBA in 1976.
About an hour and a half down I-75 from Eastern Kentucky is Corbin, the very 1st KFC location. Colonel Sanders ran a motor lodge with a restaurant where he served chicken deep fried in a pressure cooker because he was hardcore like that.
Alumni Colesium is getting some major rennovations at the end of the season. They're going to bust down the wall and turn it into a proper bowl arena. Also the roof is the largest wooden beamed ceiling in existence. So that's nice? Anywho, Roll Kerns!
@@jbsmgYou're thinking of Queens. Jacksonville has been in D1 for a long time. Artis Gilmore led them to a national championship game against UCLA back in the 60s.

Freedom hall is still used for livestock, horse shows and tractor pulls regularly
Freedom Hall hosted one of Mike Tyson's final fights as well

Played ball at the small courts behind the east wall there. Also saw George Carlin on stage around 1990.

Great video!
I wonder how Jacksonville is playing D1 ball with such a small arena?
They just went D1 recently. St. Thomas in MN is in the same boat. They have to upgrade their facilities within a few years
