Fr. Mike is my little brother !!! My heart always explodes with pride and joy when I listen to him talk about his deep faith and his joy. I am so blessed to be his sister 🥰
I am discerning a vocation to the Discalced Carmelites and just made my second visit to their monastery and met with Fr. Michael Joseph Paris. He is a wonderful priest, and I am excited to listen to this episode. Please keep me in your prayers as I discern my vocation.
I am also discerning O.C.D. nuns, actually i am making my second visit too, this saturday, so I am extremely thankful for this episode also :) Prayers for you!
This sent me down a deep dive into the Carmelite order after about an hour in, and I'm floored by how God is filling my heart! The way they pray, their commitment to our Lady, the total surrender, and their way of living and evangelizing; it all speaks to my soul. I'll be praying a novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel to see if God is calling me to a vocation in the Carmelite order. Please pray for me.
Read The Fire Within for a good start with Carmelite spirituality. It's one of the best books on prayer that you'll find. Radically changed my prayer life.
He probably wouldn't like me saying this, but Father Michael-Joseph is one of the most solid and uplifting priests I've ever worked with and every day I get to assist him is a pleasure. Honestly a great man, glad to see him getting recognition he probably doesn't want :)
My advice to everyone for the end of 2024 is to read Catholic book Your Life Your Game by Keezano. I’ve read it, and it truly changed my life. It beautifully shows how connecting with God and your inner self can lead to spiritual growth and financial success. A must-read for all people
I always appreciate when Matt throws in a comment about praying the rosary with his kids. It is not something that I do very often, although I would like to. And I am always inspired when he mentions it in. I appreciate how he doesn't sugarcoat it... It's tough to get kids to sit still and pray reverently, but I love how He and his family persevere and continue to do it. The beauty is in the imperfection, love it! This channel really is the best
Desde España este humilde Carmelita de sonrisa fácil ha transformado mi vida: he vuelto a la vida sacramental de un católico laico. Y todo por la espiritualidad carmelita y sus santos y como lo explican.
As a Protestant I love his joy and zeal, and I laughed heartily during the bit about the “accomodation of scripture” because I appreciate his candour. 😅
Fr. Michael Joseph is a blessing to the Carmelite community and always shares the joy of the faith. We are blessed to know him and glad that others are getting to hear him!
Thank you for featuring so many religious lately! The videos truly display how normal (and amazing and inspiring) these men and women are. God willing, an increase in vocations will result!
Proud to be a part of parish which is run by the discalced carmelite monks, From my experience I can say that as an ex evangelical who's life has been converted by their preaching about the cross and about true repentance and especially of their devotion to the brown scapular which has led me to be the part of the brown scapular conferternity❤❤❤️😇
On a family trip to Colorado we ran across a Carmelite community of hermits called Nada. There was a supernatural sense of community without seeing a soul. We could feel their prayers. I looked up Carmelites near me and found a secular OCD carmel in my hometown. 7 years later, I made definitive promises in September.
I’m have listened to many episodes of Pints with Aquinas, many of them have being a tremendous blessing to my life and an enriching of my faith and knowledge, but this episode pierce me like hot knife on butter. Thank you to Friar Michael for everything you shared and how you imparted it, your meekness is provoking. And thank you Matt for your diligence in bringing valuable logs into the fire in such a natural and admirable way. Praise our Lord for what He is doing in you both and through you. 🙌🏼❤️🔥
I'm so happy this interview finally happened! I am blessed to have Fr Michael Joseph near me and always love going to his talks and he's always very comforting and hospitable.
Matt, you are such a warm host, and your humor is delightful. I come to your channel to lift my heart. Fr Michael-Josef has so many meaningful and beautiful stories! What a treasure trove of history resides within you both! Thank you.
The Carmelite spiritual teachers seem to value metaphors as a means of communicating ideas, which is pretty striking and beautiful to me. St. Teresa's watering metaphors (bucket, waterwheel, irrigation channels, rain) for the different levels/ways of experiencing prayer was really beautiful to me the first time I encountered it. It also just blows my mind how St. Therese and St. Elizabeth of the Trinity could just sum up their vocations: to be love in the heart of the church and to be praise of his glory, respectively.
I discerned the OCD nuns in England & France. It remains the most treasured time of my life. St Therese is my confirmation saint too. We can plumb the depths of OCD spirituality our whole lives. God bless you Father 🙏
Thank you for this great interview. Most devout Catholics I know have a devotion & love of the Scapular. Maybe because it is hidden (wearing under clothes), we don’t have awareness of just how many people are committed to it 🙏🏻
I love this! Father Michael Joseph has been such a teacher for our family from the moment we came (and came back) to the Church (and I’m sure he doesn’t even know how blessed we feel by him 😅 mental note: share that with him in person!). One of the first talks that really stuck with me in our community was his talk on St John of the Cross, and our whole family has loved learning more about the Discalced Carmelite spirituality ever since. The Discalced Carmelites are such a blessing for us near Holy Hill and the surrounding area and I hope many more people come to know, love, and appreciate the gift we have. Thank you for having him on! Your show has been a blessing for someone new to all of this, and it’s great to see a guest who personally grew my walk in some way ❤
This interview has to be one of my favorites 😊 thank you it is perfect for advent. Always wear our scapulars especially when traveling. Doing a back country horse trip, it’s right next to the satellite communicator 👍🏼 My cow girl friends are used to seeing it pop out when trotting up hill trails. Thanks for this interview 👍🏼
I went to Carmelite convent in Indonesia. They follow St. Therese Liseux as inspiration. There is a lot of nun who are a refugee from China and Vietnam as well.
Trust me, God makes sure that people who live alone know our shortcomings. Thank God in the long run, and it gives us an opportunity to offer up our suffering to Jesus to use as He wishes.
So glad to see this! What I really want to see though is a conversation about literature (especially Dostoevsky) and theology between Fr. Marc Foley and Matt Fradd. Please make that happen!
I visited a Carmelite monastery once, and got kicked out after less than an hour. I had emailed them the day before saying I'd be driving like 6 hours to visit them, and they said okay, but I show up and they're like yeah, you gotta leave because we have a group of people coming. Can you believe that? Personally, I think it's because I didn't buy anything from the gift shop, but either way, that really s*cked...
Give it to God. Say God, I give this interview. I give you this grass that needs mowed. I give you this laundry. Please do the Bread and Fish with it and give it to the poor souls.
why venerate Mary and the saints? Nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to do that. Revelations 15:4 says "who will not fear you oh Lord and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. Rev. 4:11 says You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory, honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being. AND......THE New Testament only goes on about the message of Christ our Savior. It's not about the saints and Mary. Yes, Mary is blessed among women, but this practice of venerating them is idolatry
I wouldn’t.expect any thing less from a Roman Church member, to read whatever you want to believe into scripture. That’s what man made religion is all about. 6:38
Oh my! Thank you for having him on!! I have been watching CarmelCast since it started. Carmel led me into the Catholic Church 14 years ago. St. John of the Cross is my patron saint. Also, Our Lady of Lourdes had a 6 decade rosary. The OLOL statues show that. The best show I’ve watched on here. 🤎
Father Michael Paris was my spiritual director at UMD-College Park 8ish years ago. So happy to see him again. 🕊️🤍✝️ I still carry the card he gave me with Saint Therese on the front and his ordination info on the back.
Please help us build our new studio: pintswithaquinas.com/studio/

He is so wonderful! I love when he talks about St Therese…especially on CarmelCast.
🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️
Keep bringing religious on we love it!
Yes! So much better than those who politicize the faith.
I am discerning a vocation to the Discalced Carmelites and just made my second visit to their monastery and met with Fr. Michael Joseph Paris. He is a wonderful priest, and I am excited to listen to this episode. Please keep me in your prayers as I discern my vocation.

Exudes!

@@Di_bear Thank you very much. May God bless you.
Also the Carmelites have a podcast called Carmel Cast if you wanted to listen to more of Fr. Michael Joseph Paris.
@@Di_bear I bought the book and just two chapters in it's speaking volumes to me. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@JacobClift-wf4by I'll try and check it out. Thank you
I honestly had no idea how cool the Carmelites are, thank you for setting me straight! What a delightful Friar.
The joy that exudes from him is really awespiring!
I wonder if it matches the joy of creating life
@ I’d say it exceeds it

Delightful conversation 🙏🙏🙏
What a refreshing antidote to everything else on TH-cam and the news right now!
I've been wearing a brown scapular for decades. I keep my medical alert tag on it. It is the one way I can be 100% certain to be wearing that tag.
Such an interesting conversation! Thank you!

What are the requirements along with wearing the Brown Scapular, recitation of the Little hours of the Blessed Mother?
It depends on the priest who enrolled you. Many will require recitation of the Little Office. My priest only requires daily Rosary.
I’m pleased to like this video and get past 666 likes. St. John of the Cross, pray for us!
Where can I buy just a basic brown scapular?
Go to your church and any priest can enroll you in the scapular, and they’ll give you the scapular they bless for free.
Can you post a link to where you got your scapular Matt? I have similar criteria as you and have not found one easily meeting it.
