Rick if ya still do this take a plastic cup draw your pattern on it cut it out with some sissors, or exacto blade now you have a reusable pattern that has a radiious to it ,usually they snap right to bone and dowel stock. run a sharp pencil around edges this makes it so fast. Spray hair sproy on it and the pencil wont smudge.i use the lids from butter tubs for flat patterns.

i realize this is old but to you and anyone else who may read this if you want to get into carving bones but cant find any don't worry go to the pet store and look for the cut cow bones there already white and great for carving and are usually cheap

butcher shops also sell bones too but of course they would need to be cleaned and sanitized :)

@@mariaann4717 really late, but the pet ones are the safest, if you get raw bones you should bake them in the oven. Pet bones are already heat treated. heating treating them greatly reduces the risk of contracting a really bad disease from breathing in the dust.

this is such a good idea!I'm lucky enough I grew up on a cattle farm, and have ready access to hundreds of bones from all sorts of animals, but I know it can be hard for others to find!
