  • The Amazons, in Greek mythology, are fierce and independent warriors. They lived in a secluded matriarchal society, famous for their combat skills. The most famous Amazons in Greek mythology include: Hippolyta, queen in possession of the magical girdle, the object of Hercules' ninth labor; Penthesilea, a warrior who fought in Troy and faced Achilles; and Antiope, who was married to Theseus.

Well said. But one thing the Amazon's in Hellenic mythology or part of Hellenic society. There not foreign. They were Hellenic women with Hellenic name's spoke the Hellenic language and belived in the Hellenic pantheon shared a Hellenic culture. In other words they are Greeks and part of Greek society, just like Memnon Danaus Medea Andromeda etc.

We must understand what is mythology first.
Mythology is the telling of a story.
Mythology consists of Phycology Anthropology Sociology Literature History Religion and Science related to the culture that created the story.
Mythology goes beyond the borders of ones civilization to explain the world around them throw the view of the people telling the story.
Mythology is the reflection of the culture that created the story in a devine state.
      Hope I helped.

      @RichardTHCS 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@taekfute Yes the Amazon's were section's but that doesn't change the fact that in Hellenic mythology they are a part of Hellenic culture.
it's clear you have not read the Epic Poems. nor do you know about Hellenic culture and mythology.
You are confusing the Mythical Kingdom of Aethiopia from Hellenic Mythology with Herodotus Geographical Term of Aethiopia in History.
Homer's Mythical Kingdom of Aethiopia is in the East.
Herodotus Aethiopia is in the South, South from Egypt and Libya.
The country we know today has nothing to do with that. Ethiopia today was established in 1275 AD by Yekuno Amlak.
But there is a Roman version of the story of Memnon that they believed he hailed from Africa.
Romans would reimagine romanticize and rationalize Hellenic myths to bring them closer to reality and how they viewed the world.
The Romans after conquering Egypt they connected Memnon to Herodotus Geographical Term of Aethiopia.
In the original Hellenic source Memnon and the Mythical Kingdom of Aethiopia have nothing to do with Africa.

Initially this legend had no explanation as to how they didn't die out without men to procreate with. During the later centuries subsidiary tales emerged to rectify the situation. Even though the Amazon women lived in a society completely independent of men, they mated with men from neighbouring lands. They kept the girls and sent the boys to their fathers. So there you go.

They Amazonian is likely to be women of nomadic tribes like the many Scythian tribes that Bronze Age Greek had encounters during the Bronze Age.
To the Bronze Age Greek society, the concept of a female warrior must be exotic, and seen the people who was born during the Geometric Age have little records (in general) about Bronze Age Greek (mainland) society, what they do remember from passing down folklore mix with real re-collection of past events, re-interpreted through many generations, whom large doesn't remember it's original, was then mythology by story maker, music peoples, while the truth is that, in most nomadic society men and women are almost equal in statues, especially during earlier periods, and everyone have to fight out of necessity.
It's most likely that the Early Bronze Age Greek city state, their colonies and their monarchy enslaves nomadic tribes people, and the tribes peoples fought back, include these women, while other Greek city state (not Polis) and their monarchy/nobility/whatever da phuc a "Wanex" mean to be, make alliances with some of these tribes, and there could be a traditions or a common thing for Early Greek to marriages people from these Nomadic tribes.

You're right, it's hilarious how many comments are reacting as if this myth really happened. It's also interesting that in the video, a "male-dominated society" is portrayed as unjust, while a society exclusively ruled by women is being portrayed as equal and fair.

@@MrMurphyX You realize that Athens citizens were only adult male Athenian citizens (Born in Athens from Athens born parents) who had completed their military training as ephebes had the right to vote in Athens. The percentage of the population that actually participated in the government was 10% to 20% of the total number of inhabitants. Female Athens had a limited education and often focus on House Work and raising kids while males had more complex education. Also it's was men's job to do any outside of house activities like shopping. And most events of cultural and political events were also available to man only.
And were things were exactly better in other parts of Greece. Spartan females had a "better" life and rights than Athens females. But it wasnt like their life was piece of cake.
The only women who Greece Value were the female Gods due to their God status, a mortal couldn´t say that Athenas wasn't qualified as War Deity because she was female and insulting a god even a minor one could bring a twisted fate to that person.

Some say the Amazons are the daughters of Ares. Some say that Ares had two daughters in the Amazons demi goddess. .one of them was tricked and by someone. Can't remember if it was Hera or not. Can't find the names ether. I do remember that Heracles and Hippolyra, slept together. but didn't take the magic girdle. Left back at the palace. . . But, I who I can't remember female name, head that the Greeks were trying to steal the queens girdle. And they raced to the Greek ships. Heracles and Hippolyra walking back to the queens palace. But the amazons saw she did not have her girdle . Thats when the battle started. Near the docks. The queen tried to stop it. But saw her sisters being cut down, she had fight back. That's when she Herc done her in . after the slaughter. Her went to the palace and took the girdle, but was in grief what happened. tt Some say that Hippolyra was Aries daughter. There are many Amazon queen's. To many I suppose to put 14 minutes. a very good introduction into the Amazon myths. Top Mark's 👽👍
