So far i have had 780 EUR in sales and 147.50 EUR in fees. That's insane 18.85 % in fees. Further, I will need to deduct 21% of add value tax which is 163.8 EUR and about 150 EUR in shipping costs (i offer free shipping) , i am left with 320 EUR to cover the product costs. be warned, people! ;)

Your country could be not eligible for etsy. You can use an eligible bank account if you have a relevant living abroad who could help you and ship from your location.
I got charged more than 60% on VAT seller fees for selling digital products (UK shop) and that leaves me nearly 0% profit. I can’t find any information why the vat fee is so ridiculously high?! I haven’t submitted the VAT ID…
I charged $30 for an item Etsy took $14! Which bonged me out! You made it sound so simple. I didn't use their labeling but was charged... I really like to list my items, My questions is, does Etsy have a customer support? And do they have an itemized billing so you can visually see what you are charged?. New to the channel, thanks in advance 🙂
If you have an existing bill (for example, your listing fees - which charge every 4 months for renewal), then this will deduct from any money you make during that sales period. So you would not have been charged $14 for a $30 sale. You likely already had a small accumulation of fees in your seller account (under your finances tab). You can attempt to reach out to Etsy support via the contact tab in the bottom right of your seller dashboard menu but as I said, this was very likely just your usual monthly fees.

Do you have a suggestion regarding pricing when it comes to selling shirts and sweatshirts? I am having a difficult time figuring out pricing since each size and color are different costs
There's no magic recipe. Price for profit, even if your variations need to be priced differently. I also sell sweatshirts and tee shirts, and I have to charge more for larger sizes, as they cost more to produce. Customers tend to expect to pay more for larger sizes, so just price for what you need to in order to still make a profit. 🙂
Great explanation. Thanks! I will probably use Erank solely because I have been looking for software or an app to "cost" my materials and labor. Now I will get the added bonus of Etsy seo tools.
Yes, but Etsy does get you a slight discount on labels. Since utilizing Etsy's labels is optional, I didn't include it in the video, as there are other services such as PirateShip that sellers can use instead.
No, you'll need to check your individual margins for POD. These are just Etsy's side. Printify will allow you to set your own margins based on the specific distributor who is printing your items (as Printify is made up of multiple small print companies).
On Printify's side, these are not "fees". It is the expense of the printing as well as the cost of the item itself, as they have to charge you for the materials and printing, otherwise they would not make money. You can learn a bit about their margins in this article, as well as their pricing calculator: ecommerce-platforms.com/print-on-demand/printify-pricing
@@StarlaMooreSo they just deposit the profit right? Because they mentioned something about charging me then me sending them back what they are owed then I keep the profit. So I'm a confused.
Thank you! Excellent video…. I do have a question. I made my first sale. T-Shirt priced at $24. Printify took $19 (production and shipping and Etsy fees were twice what you describe in this video… $5. I am not on printify premium yet as I was told to get a few sales first….
Your $0.20 listing fee only applies again if the listing expires and renews (4 months), or of the listing sells. Are you sure you're not seeing the sum total of all your fees added together? Many sellers start their shop, make a few sales, then see their total bill and assume it all came from fees associated with the sales they made. In reality, it's often listing fees and renewals. If you've reviewed your fees and you still see inconsistencies that you can't explain, I'd message Etsy support and ask.
@@StarlaMoore thank you so much for the reply! I only have eight items listed for sale in my shop thus far, and I do believe part of the fees were the total of all of those listings not just the one item that I sold. I do have payment information on file as well as auto pay turned on, so I thought this listing fee was taken from my account every time I posted a listing?
No, the fee will add up and withdraw from your payment account at the end of each month. So it sounds like you're seeing the fees for those 8 listings and your normal fees from the item you sold. Now that your items are listed, you wont be billed anything additional unless they sell or if they expire, which happens if the item does not sell within 4 months. Every time the listing renews, you will be charged $0.20. And your listing renews every time it sells, or if it expires after 2 months of no sales and is reactivated again.
I’m just curious if my print on demand is listed in US $ but I’m in Canada, how do I figure out what to price as Etsy is asking to my to list in Canadian $
Your currency will be set to wherever you set your location/currency when you signed up for your account. So you'll need to get with Etsy support if you want to change it, as you can't change this within your personal settings. As for figuring out conversions, you'll likely just need to google a currency converter. Either way, your customers will see the price listed for whatever their set currency is.
I'm sure your calculations are all correct, but I made a sale of £19 (total, with shipping) and Etsy charged me £4.46, which is around ¼ of my total :/
I have a question. When i come to the card information i see that i need to pay 27€ as a first timer -fee. I thought it was free to set up an account. Why is it like that ?
The start up fee is a recent addition, which tool place long after this video was initially posted. Here's an article my team at Erank has published about the new fee: help.erank.com/blog/understanding-etsys-new-15-setup-fee/
I was wanting to watch a video where someone could show me the easiest Etsy calculator, where to put what, etc, plus taking free shipping into consideration, ill keep browsing😜👍👍
Are etsy ad fees billed directly to the seller on a monthly basis or do the fees for etsy ads come out of your sales? I've been trying to find this out forever 😩
Money from sales all go into your Etsy payment account, and fees are deducted from your payment account each month. Whatever is left gets deposited to your bank. If you do not have money from sales to cover your Etsy bill, they charge your connected bank. 🙂
In the example you've included 20cent in the deductions, but that will be for 4 months irrespective of sale. So should the calculation be done while including that price in products price or we can even distribute the price, like if we expect min 5 pc sale in 4 month we could distribute say .04cent on article price which sums to 20 cents . Could and should we do that
0.20 will be deducted after every sale, and/or every four months assuming the item does not sell during that period. In short, listings renew after each sale OR after every four months when a sale does not take place. And each renewal will cost 0.20. If you made 5 sales in four months, your sold listing would renew 5 times total over that four month period, equating to $1.00 in total listing renewal fees. Because this listing renewed after each sale, it would not renew automatically at the four-month-mark, since this four-month-renewal will only happen if a listing does not sell in this time frame.
When I list something for 67.99 on Etsy why then does the total come out to 83.63 on my listing page? I’ve had a few viral TikTok videos of what I’m selling but only a handful of sale’s because of etsys extra charge why is that
You likely had listing fees that accumulated, which would have taken from your overall sales for the month. You'll pay $0.20 per listing every 4 months or every time a listing renews after it has sold. This bill will always deduct right from your profit.
Hi, do these shoutouts not affect the conversion rates? If a lot of people visit and no one buys? Won't this affect the quality score of the shop/listings? I've read this so many times. Even on a blogpost of erank. I'm asking because I've seen you reply on one of the commenters here that it doesn't affect quality score and thus also not the ranking in the search results.
Your conversion rate has no effect on your shop, rank, or listing quality score. It is a metric for your reference only buy has no impact on your shop. If it was eranks blog where you saw this we'll need to go editi it, as it's a huge myth that conversion rates have any impact at all on your listings. Feel free to link me if you can find because if one of our guest writers did publish this, it'll need to be edited asap. Conversion rates are for your reference. They hold no weight over listing quality, shop quality, or rank.
I actually just found the blog post you mentioned and I'll be bringing it up with our team today because it is quite misleading. It's not the conversion rate that has an impact on your listing quality. It's the sale itself. Not making a sale does not harm your shop. But making a sale does help. So it's the sale, not the overall conversion rate itself, that has an impact. This is outlined in Etsy's article, "How Etsy search works", help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015745428-How-Etsy-Search-Works?segment=selling&_ga=2.150131198.995970481.1659094743-1726786246.1658437102 Thank you for brining this to our attention!
I realize this question isn't on-topic but you're the Guru so I had to ask. Do keywords in your title matter more than the same keyword in your tags, or are they given equal weight when someone searches? I *know* you had a video talking about this but I can't seem to find the answer. Did I skip past it in your SEO vids?
This is likely the video you're looking for: th-cam.com/video/SNZH6FJKbNE/w-d-xo.html From what we've observed, titles are the most important ranking factor, followed by tags. Both are important. 😊

@@StarlaMoore thanks that helps
When I list something for 67.99 on Etsy why then does the total come out to 83.63 on my listing page? I’ve had a few viral TikTok videos of what I’m selling but only a handful of sale’s because of etsys extra charge why is that
How can a Nigerian participate?
Can a Nigerian participate??
Im a new Etsy seller and I’m super confused about the whole pricing because I sold an item for $42 and got $19 profit
You likely had listing fees that accumulated, which would have taken from your overall sales for the month. You'll pay $0.20 per listing every 4 months or every time a listing renews after it has sold. This bill will always deduct right from your profit.
That's alottt of 20 cent fees accumulating right? Ouch
This is outlined in Etsy's article, "How Etsy search works", help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015745428-How-Etsy-Search-Works?segment=selling&_ga=2.150131198.995970481.1659094743-1726786246.1658437102
Thank you for brining this to our attention!
What about Indian country price I didn't find it in list:(
I realize this question isn't on-topic but you're the Guru so I had to ask. Do keywords in your title matter more than the same keyword in your tags, or are they given equal weight when someone searches? I *know* you had a video talking about this but I can't seem to find the answer. Did I skip past it in your SEO vids?
This is likely the video you're looking for: th-cam.com/video/SNZH6FJKbNE/w-d-xo.html
From what we've observed, titles are the most important ranking factor, followed by tags. Both are important. 😊
Hi, big doubt here, printify charges me a sgipping fee of 10,49 plus cost if production 34,16. Big question.. ok for thr 6.5 from etsy but does etsy charges also shipping??? Im trying to calculate.. hard
I have a question. If i add the fees to my price then the fees will be higher. If if want to sell my item for 20 dollars. I add the fees,. For example, 2 dollars. Now the 6,5 % of 22 is not the same than the 6,5% of 20 dollars.
You are correct. That was a mistake on my part.
@@StarlaMoore thks starla! i find pricing so hard.
@@pepilm the erank calculators help SO much. Definitely try them out if you haven't already!
I just updated the video so the error should be cut out now. 🙂 Thanks for letting me know!
I sold a pendant today for $86, then etsy sends an email saying they are sending me $60 direct deposit,,are they kidding me??
Did you also have an accumulation of listing fees? If so, those would have deducted from any sales that you made.
@@StarlaMoore I don’t think that’s why I only have about 5 items listed, but thank you
There is an alien behind you. lol Thank you for the information!
That's Roswell. 😂 👽 In my more recent videos, he's actually adopted two little green babies. 😍
@@StarlaMoore aww love it
Will Etsy take the fees from your profits, if you've made enough to cover them? Or do they always do the payments and fees separately?
If using Etsy Payments, they will take them from your profits and you will be paid out the remaining balance.
Total Etsy feel will be 17% if you add all this little fees !
I earned 100k and I have approx 33k to etsy
So advertising in Pinterest for example is not worthy at all
I didn't say that. Regarding advertising on any platform, you have to decide what works for you. Ads are great for some shops and not for others.
@@StarlaMoore I am sorry I should explain better , I am a new Etsy seller and I just make a sell and Etsy take out 2.95$ I didn’t have club that this Advertisement will cost me that much, it was basically my profit since I trying to compete with prices as a new seller . You never said that , I said that !!! lol
its asking me for 15 dollars for the first time opening a shop
It's Etsy new program. You can read more about it in a recent eRank blog: help.erank.com/blog/understanding-etsys-new-15-setup-fee/
I have been watching you for years, I watch all your videos, even ones for newbie’s even though I have been selling for about 8 years.
Etsy is always changing things so I try to stay on top of it all, that way everyone else doesn't have to decipher their craziness. 😂
👍👍👍👍👍
Oops.... I think your math is wrong. If your absolute bottom line is $20, adding $2.35 to cover the fees won't do it because the fees will also go up. Your fees for the $22.35 would add up to $2.57 giving you $19.78 as your bottom line on that item. You'd have to charge $22.60 in order to get the $20 bottom line you need on that item. Sorry...
You are correct. That was a mistake on my part.
All fixed now! 💛
Someone should marry you and make you the CEO of the company ASAP
First, I'm already married. Second, why would I need to be married to be the CEO of the company?
Hello, I'm curious about the fees and how they may vary for digital products.
Fees for digital will be the exact same, aside from fees associated with shipping the item. There is no difference.
@@StarlaMoore great! Thank you so much
Already sounds better then eBay fees
Thank you!
Great info, Thanks!
