- I had heard about El Rojo (The Red).
A giant red pictograph (painting) somewhere out in the desert.
Old, very old. Ancient perhaps.
With vague directions I set out in search of this antiquity.
I think I enjoy the hunt as much as seeing the prize.
After half a day of walking and seeing plenty of petroglyphs carved into boulders as well as pioneer 'grafitti', I finally caught a glimpse of the big red pictograph high in the cliffs.
Being able to see El Rojo from that far away meant it was a large painting.
Something of this size isn't exactly common.
So it was quite an awesome experience when I finally got to stand in front of the large pictograph and let the contemplation begin!
Visitation to sites such as this should be done with the utmost respect. The artwork is not simply graffiti, it is a window into the past and it is culturally significant. Please take great care when visiting and observing these places.

Thank you so much for showing me something that I would have never seen without you.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I did this hike with my wife and the heat was crazy memorial weekend and we too went out early. Key take I learned is bring double the water you think you need.
Wow thanks
I dig this kind of stuff my man keep on grinding and following your dream!
Great coverage, I think maybe the platform the artist stood on has broken off. Or he was very tall
Big Red probably only survived this long because he’s so far under that rock overhang.
Ancestors of the Hopi ..my tribe .. migration spirals n snake clan ppl migrating in 4 directions in the United States.. interesting find ..👍
Care to expand on the Snake Clan people, genuinely interested.
Same!
Great material, your hat has awesomely gotten the hard roughly worn characteristic, got one like it myself! Lol! Keep it happening...🤙🤠
Thank you very much for watching! Indeed, it has seen some miles!
keep up the good work👍
I certainly intend to! Thank you very much for watching!
Great video. New member to the channel, and already enjoying your work.
Thank you very much, appreciate you watching and supporting the channel!!
Definitely subbed. Awesome video. But I just love how the Native people drew amazing pictographs and wall art hundreds even thousand plus years ago the US white people came along and wrote our names in grease haha. It's still awesome to see because for me I sit and think about what their lives were like back then.
Appreciate you watching and supporting the channel! Amazing it is!!
That's a Space Person
You never know...
Maybe the Artist was attempting to say that El Rojo lives in the darkness ?
Maybe. I think Rojo was purposely put in that spot since the rising sun hits it perfectly, perhaps some type of emergence from the dark...a birth.
12:16 petroglyph almost looks like a 3 dimensional face
Total trip! Thanks for watching!
Did you notice any pottery sherds on your journey?
No, didn't notice any pottery.
I wonder if a random zoomorphic figure like that means they’d killed an animal in that particular spot…? 🤔
Possibly, why not.
I have a hard time believing wiping grease on and exposed rock would last 150 years that well?? don't know why every scratch a kid made on a rock is called art and tried to be given some deep dark meaning. A lot of them aren't even that old. as a kid 60 years ago we sratched and drew on rocks often. I would not stay nice like that.
Thanks for watching! There's a place called City of Rocks in Idaho that has an abundance of 'pioneer graffiti' scrawled all over the rocks from grease. I've been there, found it very interesting. If you don't believe it, that's cool too.
