Good video. I had no idea that true crime podcasts, stories, documentaries, etc, had risen to that level of popularity. A third of Americans! (Did I hear that statistic right?) Gotta admit that it’s easy to be sucked into. A few years back, my now 80 year old mother watched a lot of this stuff on TV. I can understand seeing a show here or there but she was really getting into it. Often I would make my youngest son leave the room just so his brain didn’t get filled up with all the dark content. Then I think even she realized what was happening and totally switched genres. Now she watches tons of Hallmark style movies!

I suppose you could interact with it and it be positive or you could watch it and it be ok. For me, however, it isn't a beneficial thing as I find the events live on in my mind. I choose to learn life saving or defending tactics from professionals who can teach me what is needed.

Another perspective to consider- Of course Christians should watch it. The entire premise of the Bible and Christianity is a true crime story and we even celebrate it every Easter!

I appreciate this. I have a teen daughter who wants to go into forensic science who likes to read mystery crime novels

This reminds me of Truth Unites's video on how the early church prohibited its members from going to gladiator matches. They believed using violence as a form of entertainment had a formative effect on the viewer, sometimes even considering it participation in the act. "To see a man put to death is much the same as killing him."

I don’t think that watching true crime is inherently sinful but what you watch stays in your mind and can haunt you especially if you have anxiety. I watched true crime stuff as a teen and it didn’t start effecting me until I became older and started getting scared of what could happen to me or to family. So definitely be careful if you susceptible fear and anxiety.

Gid knows your heart. If were watching to learn from it, I don't feel its sinful. We cant put our heads in the sand like ostriches. Knowledge is power! 👍
