Tell me, who would you rather trust, some guy who wrote a Twitlonger, or a journalist who has proven himself to be a decent-to-good news source reporting on massive scandals in esports? For sure he will just do the equivalent of putting a buckshot into his cranium to his career to do what... make TSM look bad? To slander Peter Zhang? Not to mention within the article itself, there is a section discussing Richard/Dexerto's speaking "at length" with Peter Zhang, so make that as what you will.
With the situation as is, the higher-ups at TSM, former or current, won't be able to comment publicly, and that's assuming if they wanted to comment on this shit show, and if the players actually elaborated to length, they would put themselves into a less-than-desirable position, considering there is no way they're going to admit that their spot in TSM is not legitimate, and *any* mishap, be it translation error, or any slip up, would be damning for them and their career's longevity.
While I wouldn't take the reporting regarding Peter Zhang's termination as 100% factual truth, it is much more likely, and much, much more rational to believe Richard, and that is no "blind faith".

For people always criticizing for flip flopping takes, Doublelift mainly spoke on his reasons not to loan Peter Zhang money. The actions Peter Zhang took warrant that suspicion on a personal level, something that people ALL will do in shady situations. But when a public news outlet comes out with testimonials from private sources rather than confirmed illegal actions, you're assassinating more than just his character, but his future within the e-sport industry. Should Doublelift have aired out his personal experiences with Peter before the story was fully released? I don't think that was a wise choice on his part, but at the end of the day, Doublelift is defending Peter Zhang's career, but holding him accountable for his reckless personal spending habits. The two videos are not mutually exclusive.

R Lewis is reporting what he’s told from sources within TSM and directly what was told to him by Peter. On the four horseman episode a few days ago, he specifically said that a lot of the blame falls onto TSM in this situation and it’s not entirely the fault of Peter. And his claims were corroborated by Thorin who heard similar claims by different sources. If you read only what Peter says in this, or only TSM’s statement, no shit you’re going to think that the other is omega satan that’s fully in the wrong.

In this video: Doublelift not knowing how journalism works.
They can't just write who the source is and provide evidence... they'd be jeopardizing others' lives who chose to trust the journalist to get the truth out. They put their reputation on the line every time so they need to verify their sources and pick their wording very carefully. Falsely representing the situation to the extent you're implying means Peter Zhang gets an easy defamation lawsuit against Dexerto.
How does Peter just saying "I didn't do it" or a player saying "He didn't do it" serve as any more evidence than the article anyway? Can Doublelift really not imagine a situation where a player would say he didn't take a cut?
How about an easy lay-up: the player doesn't fking know. Since Peter was the financial intermediary for moving the player's salary/agent's fee from USD to yuan AND he was a translator for the player, he easily could've told the two parties different numbers? It doesn't even have to be every player or even a large sum of money. It only has to happen once for that to be technically true for the article and potentially for him to lose the trust to be able to continue with this role in TSM or other orgs.
I actually even agree with Doublelift that TSM is probably scapegoating Peter, and it's an angle for an easy out for their other bad PR and perceived incompetence. But the incomplete logic about how the article didn't cite receipts is just baffling.
If Dexerto publishes a wildly inaccurate statement, Peter Zhang has the right to sue the shit out of Dexerto and/or the source for defamation. Not fking defend himself on Twitlonger. So don't you worry about Peter Zhang's livelihood unjustly being ruined, Doublelift.

Just like outing the sources would be life jeprodizing to those involved, letting a false accusation out is life jeprodizing to peter.

    • @shoePatty
      @shoePatty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@ninya1204 So follow your thoughts to the next conclusion. If these truly are false accusations without extensive verifying of sources, Peter Zhang could sue Dexerto out of literally millions of dollars for defamation. If even half of those statements are lies, any bum off the street could find a crappy lawyer to work pro-bono to rake in that easy fking money.
And they'd risk that for what? A text article that makes them a few thousand dollars of ad revenue at best?
You're talking from some weird whataboutism, moral-relativity angle where you can't recognize that career-ruining allegations are fking due when you do career-ruining actions.
Either that or Peter Zhang could cash in on this character assassination instead of releasing a twitlonger.
Doublelift's basically experiencing the initial discovery of some potential dangers if the press had 0 legal accountability... hundreds of years after society already figured that one out.
Why is common sense so fking uncommon in esports?

  • @wjhull
    @wjhull 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Just to quickly clarify: it is still theft if he pays them back after he's caught, and it's grand theft because it was $80,000 he had "borrowed without permission". (Though maybe it would technically be fraud? I don't know, I'm not a lawyer myself.) Of course it's only a problem for him if SwordArt presses charges, which it seems like he won't, but you can't hand-wave that fact just because he was accused of worse crimes. That being said, if the stuff about acting as agent to the players, giving himself signing bonuses, and doctoring the roster so that he could cash in on Chinese players is completely unfounded, then that's libel, which is also illegal, and if this article ruins his career prospects then he can sue Dexerto for a shitton of money.
At least, he can if he doesn't screw up his own case by hiding in China, a non-extradition country, which makes him look extremely guilty of all the actual crimes he's being investigated for (not the SwordArt thing). Which he might do even if he is completely innocent, because he likely has family there to support him--plus he seems like kind of an idiot when it comes to thinking things through and wouldn't consider how bad running away from his problems makes him look. (I mean, in his defense, if I was fired for breaking rules to save a sick family member, I would probably be tempted to go home to spend time with them than stay in America to get yelled at for made-up crimes as well.)

Legally, would hold no weight. It would be grandtheft if stole swordarts car. The problem is swordart drew up no contracts, or anything to specify the deal with the car. No timeline, no stipulations nothing. This is why you NEVER go through a friend or family member to handle these kinds of dealings. There are professionals out there for this, sure you pay a cut and sure you were supposed to trust your friend but in reality NEVER leave that to chance. This guy fucked up and did not handle the money well but if you REALLY think about it, swordart also fucked up.

Well it doesnt matter if he sue dexerto or not. The accusation is out there and its career-ending. Its like those false rape accusation case that was on the news. By the time the investigation concludes and even if he was found not guilty, his career/reputation has already been ruined. With today generation, people will lose interest within a month and people wouldn't care if he was guilty or not to bother following up on the story. Sure he can get alot of money from the lawsuit of Dexerto, TSM or whoever accused him, but at the end of the day, he will probably never work in lol esport again.
Yes, it does make him look bad by running away to china, but he did mention that he is having family issue and so if it was to be true, its understandable to why he would go back to china, cause why stay in America when you already got fired and your family needs you back in china.

Okay everybody let’s talk for a second here:
Peter Zhang obviously deserved to be fired and both DL and Peter Zhang agreed to this fact.
It is still an unfounded accusation that he fraudulently or maliciously took money from players salaries or contracts as an agent fee. This is the crux of DL emotional side of the argument. If there is no evidence this is true then it is a terrible addition to the Dextero article. Only making Peter Zhang look worse and turn tides against him more. If it is true, then there should be more evidence that either TSM or Dextero already know of and should share so that this coach can’t do similar things to any other org.
    So the paths are:
untrue-> coach justly fired but unjustly accused
True-> coach justly fired and accused but not proven
DL was mostly talking about the possibility of the first scenario and how shit it would be to have your life ruined by a rumor.

However, for the life of me, I do not understand how anyone posturing as a "journalist" can write an article without asking ANY of the players if an allegation about an agent is true. It's not even asking for secretive information - if Peter really was acting as a player's agent it's not like the player loses any face by telling Richard when he asks. If Shenyi is tweeting about it within hours, clearly he would have provided Richard with a simple answer quickly had he simply asked. I really wanna know who RL's source was. He was so adamant about him being a herald of legitimate and fair reporting so this article, if proven false, is gonna be a huge fuck up in his part.

That's not how journalism works, you don't reveal your sources, but a journalists body of work and accuracy speaks for itself.

@@conormcfire Yeah but like in this case, if the source was TSM for example, then they're already making huge claims against Peter Zhang without any investigation being done yet.

@@ZXbolterZX it's Richard lewis, a man eSports awards journalist of the year and someone with a 100% accuracy in reporting.
If Doublelift comes out and says the article is wrong, why doesn't he reveal his source to prove otherwise? He's just using dumb double standards. The reason you don't reveal sources is to protect the individual.

It’s pretty shitty if TSM is trying to make Peter both the robber and the wheelman in this situation. I can buy he’s shitty with money but to say that he sabotaged the team for his own personal benefit is pretty fucked.

That's literally not what Doublelift is saying lol. He says if he got fired for just stealing the money is completely understandable and expected. But what's wrong is accusing him of taking a cut from his players paycut, and the players have came out and said they haven't taken their cut
