    the mic inputs on the athem mini (pro/proISO) can be used for both, direct mic input and for example a mixer or some other preamped source like the rodecaster pro (I+II). if you use it for direct mic input you switch to "Microphone" or "Microphone + Plug in Power (normal)" and if you use it as input for a preamped source like for example the rodecaster, you switch to "Line" where no additional amplification is needed because it's done externaly.
    The setting "Microphone + Plug in Power (normal)" is used for certain plug-in microphones without it's own battery supply, which you directly plug into your camera (newer/current cameras are able to provide plug-in power over mic-input) like for example the "rode video micro" and "rode video mic go". these microphones are drawing power (normally betweed 3VDC and 5VDC) directly from the camera to be able to work.
    However microphones with their own battery supply like the "rode video mic pro and pro+" don't need external/additional plug in power, in which case you should use the regular "Microphone" setting on your atem mini (pro/proISO).
    btw: the setting "Microphone + Plug in Power (normal)" has nothing to do with phantom-power with +48VDC supply for microphones which may require phantom-power.

      Hello, plug-in power is exactly same thing as phantom power. It its 5V to power JFET impedance converter in cheaper unbalanced condenser microphones. Phantom is 11 - 48V to power impedance converters (preamps) in better mics. Truth is, that is not directly compatible, but is possible to convert it (ussualy not efective).

    Great video. I had the same problem, and the hiss went AWAY when I disconnected the RCP2 from my computer USB. Line level on the Atem Extreme didn't fix the problem for me. However, what DID work was connecting a Bluetooth receiver via 3.5mm to Atem Mic 1, and the RCP2 connected to the Bluetooth receiver as a speaker output. Very little audio delay using this method as the receiver I am using is BT5.0.
    And to keep the Bluetooth receiver charged and working for hours on end, I had to connect an external USB battery block to it...I could NOT connect any USB charging cable that is connected in any way to the rest of the system. So somewhere I think there's a grounding issue.

    Thank you, this really is a breakthrough to the problem, although I have to admit that on some recordings, in fact practically all of them, the background noise continues to be heard, albeit in a much more attenuated form, is there in your opinion a definitive solution?

    • @niconcaraman
      @niconcaraman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really glad it solved your issues, I know exactly how it feels 😅 I agree, it doesn’t go away completely but at least is not distracting and annoying! Maybe trying invest in better cables would make the noise floor even lower ✌🏻💯🎉

  • @ThomasDeWeerdt
    @ThomasDeWeerdt ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello,
    Thank you for this video!
    For me, the solution did not work:
    My ATEM is set to line, but still there is noise.
    When I connect the same (non-cheap) cable to my Sony A7S mic input, there is no noise.
    When I connect the same cable to my Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus, there is noise (I assume they have the same 'bad' preamps or circuit).
    So somehow, there seems to be a problem with the ATEM Mini minijack inputs / pre-amps, in combination with cables (no matter if they are cheap or expensive).

      All I can say you should check the levels on the ATEM mini as there are a lot of knobs. Try and restart the computer and check tutorials on installing rodecaster pro and Atem. It’s strange you’re having this issue but I’m hope it’s some levels are down. Let me know how you get on!

    • @mikaelspetz
      @mikaelspetz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The hiss will still be there because this is a known design flaw on the monitor out on the Rodecaster Pro. According to Rode support the Rodecaster Pro was not designed for live-streaming. Which to me seems really strange. The line input on the Atem Mini Extreme ISO just attenuates the signal in line mode. If you look at a recording with a software with a spectral view like Izotope RX you will see the hiss although less, you can also turn up the volume to hear it. That’s why you still hear the noise. A hum/hiss isolator might help. Having both the Rodecaster Pro and the Atem Mini Extreme ISO connected to usb c to you computer can also contribute to the hiss. There are rumours of a Rodecaster Pro II coming out and hopefully they have fixed the monitor out problem. On the same token the preamps in the Atem Mini Extreme are not very good either…

    • @niconcaraman

      But I have that annoying noise when the Rodecaster gets warm and that can be heard in every recording.
      The solution? I remove the USB cable from the Rodecaster and the annoying sound is gone, I connect the audio output of my Rodecaster to the audio input of my Prof X 12, which is also a PC Interface via USB and there are no disturbing sounds.
