The light shining from Komugi at this moment is not her defeating Meruem, it is their union, as they create something that will live on after their death.

Meruem is the best example of a three dimensional villain. You can spend hours discussing, dissecting and combing through his entire character arc, and you’d only be at the part where he saves Komugi from the eagle and without even discussing Meruem and Komugi’s relationship. There have been many villains in anime, thousands. Madara, Aizen, Doflamingo, Zeref, Father, Dio, Yoshikage Kira, Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, Light and so on and so forth... But none of them. Absolutely none of them has come anywhere close to the character perfection Meruem has displayed. He has more development than any hundred villains. Truly, Meruem is the best antagonist in anime history.

Not to mention the direct parallels in the casts operation and the Gungi match between her and Meruem. I always thought it was weird that Togashi would show that she had nen like he did and not explain it through the story. But if this theory is correct then he set up the most tragic love story of all time right under our noses and we had no idea... Komugi killed Meruem (using Gungi)

My favorite moment in the Chimera Ant arc was Mereum and Komugi's last moments together because the way they respected each other with all of their hearts was so heartwarming 😍 They have unconditional love for each other and are willing to die for each other if it will ensure that they will be together forever 😭 It was a tragic moment, but a beautiful moment at the same time
and the last time she says his name is different than the other times no your highness or sama she refers to him as mereum because of how close they were instead of king as usual and it wasn't to disrespect him quite the opposite she and him both knew their places with eachother in the end and that's beautiful im sure he felt lots of remorse about things before he died and how it took for him to become human wish they could continue playing together for years until he could beat her but she'll only get better so touching
That scene literally changed my life, I still don't know how it changed me but I can feel the difference, definitely the best villain ever written in my opinion
Meruem and Komugi were for sure one of the best, if not *the best*, duo in anime since, well maybe ever. Their interactions, every single tiny aspect of them, is beautiful and well crafted in reflecting both of these characters, the story itself, even other characters that seem unrelated and some themes that are rather abstract themselves. From their matches and the moves in them (e.g. Kokoriko) to things like his headstrong notions and mixed feelings inbetween their matches, everything has a purpose. I'll never forget either of these characters, not in my entire life.

Chrollo, Uvo and Hisoka are my fav Villains. I have a thing for villians, but I couldnt feel this way for Meruem. I loathed him for all that he did. Even the queen, which i couldnt stand, i felt sadness for when he did what he did. This was the first time that i felt such loathing for a character, only to empathize with them in the end and weep over their demise. When he died there in her arms, i sobbed. I was so shocked by this at the end of the anime because i just couldnt believe that i had begun to care for him. It kind of messed me up for awhile.
Meruem and Komugi's last moments always sends me to buy lots of tissues , lock my door and cry and cry and cry. Its a very sad story and very touching and affectionate. This just proves that even though you are the king of all kings, there is still that one person you can never ever beat because life is too short too be perfect . Finding what's important and special to you is much more fulfilling than being the strongest person in the world. 😊😊😊😊 #this is a true love story
To be honest, i find it disturbing that you see their relationship as something romantic or maybe sexual. Their relationship is a strong bond between two people looking for meaning, and found that they helped each other discover things they never knew about themselves while playing Gungi. I saw their relationship as one of caring, one of love, one of unbreakable respect, not them having a crush on each other.
I really wonder how Meruem would fare against one of the 5 calamities. I mean we already know of beings like Nanika. Basically, she could exterminate him if she'd like to do so. Just remember what she did with one of the Zoldycks servants. She asked for something, she said she couldn't do that and *boom* she got somehow crushed into oblivion. Maybe HellBell would be a good start as it seems to rely solely on physical power. But other beings like Brion or Ai are a different story.

Blown away with character development, I cried my eyes out for Komugi and Meruem. Age 54 and I'd say, best love (humane) story I've ever encountered in my life. Masterpiece! I'll never forget that first smile Meruem had in his life, with Komugi, the moment he let it in and love shone through his heart. Good heavens!

Did you know that some of the character's names are references of egyptian deities? Look up "Neteru" or "Nefertiti" or "Methu", they all played a symbolic role that foreshadowed what transpired in that arc. The symbolism behind Netero himself is one of the most overlooked aspects of this series.

I cried so much for their final scene. The development of these two characters and their relationship had a very profound impact on me.

Chrollo, Uvo and Hisoka are my fav Villains. I have a thing for villians, but I couldnt feel this way for Meruem. I loathed him for all that he did. Even the queen, which i couldnt stand, i felt sadness for when he did what he did. This was the first time that i felt such loathing for a character, only to empathize with them in the end and weep over their demise. When he died there in her arms, i sobbed. I was so shocked by this at the end of the anime because i just couldnt believe that i had begun to care for him. It kind of messed me up for awhile.

Meruem and Komugi's last moments always sends me to buy lots of tissues , lock my door and cry and cry and cry. Its a very sad story and very touching and affectionate. This just proves that even though you are the king of all kings, there is still that one person you can never ever beat because life is too short too be perfect . To be honest, i find it disturbing that you see their relationship as something romantic or maybe sexual. Their relationship is a strong bond between two people looking for meaning, and found that they helped each other discover things they never knew about themselves while playing Gungi. I saw their relationship as one of caring, one of love, one of unbreakable respect, not them having a crush on each other.

I really wonder how Meruem would fare against one of the 5 calamities. I mean we already know of beings like Nanika. Basically, she could exterminate him if she'd like to do so. Just remember what she did with one of the Zoldycks servants. She asked for something, she said she couldn't do that and *boom* she got somehow crushed into oblivion.
Maybe HellBell would be a good start as it seems to rely solely on physical power. But other beings like Brion or Ai are a different story.
It hits you when he's continuously checking on komugi if she's still alive. It really sucks about this ending .

Who would’ve thought that an OP big green, evil and cruel 40 days old ant and a little blind albino girl with huge black eyebrows and a cold would fall in love? The fact that their relationship was so unexpected was what made me dead inside, I cried and cried and honestly their story is beautiful.
You forgot to highlight how he got an existential crisis when Komugi asked him the first time what his name is. So many philosophical things were touched in this arc i’m surprised why netflix still rates this suitable for 13+ years audience

Fans, please do not attack me, but I don't really care much for Hunter x Hunter. Chimera Arc is another story, I'm glad I went through some to get there. Best arc I've ever read. Blown away with character development, I cried my eyes out for Komugi and Meruem. Age 54 and I'd say, best love (humane) story I've ever encountered in my life. Masterpiece! I'll never forget that first smile Meruem had in his life, with Komugi, the moment he let it in and love shone through his heart. Good heavens!

THEORY: It’s entirely possible that Komugi’s nen ability is to influence life around her using Gungi because, at Synonymous times she used the soldier piece that in kanji can be read as leopard when Cheetu started fighting morel and then she used the bow piece when he unveiled his second nen ability. Not to mention the direct parallels in the casts operation and the Gungi match between her and Meruem. I always thought it was weird that Togashi would show that she had nen like he did and not explain it through the story. But if this theory is correct then he set up the most tragic love story of all time right under our noses and we had no idea... Komugi killed Meruem (using Gungi)
