There is no proof Meruem is speed of light level. Meruem did not catch up to his photons, the photons reached Knuckle and Knuckle had enough time to turn his head and gasp before Meruem arrived and struck him. Let's be generous and say Knuckle has super human reaction speed of about 0.1s including his head turn and let's say he was 10 000m (which is exaggerating it) away from Meruem. That would mean Meruem travelled 100 000m/s. What's the speed of light? About 300 000 000m/s. So no, he is not lightspeed level

This is an anime/manga, pretty sure Togashi or the animators weren't thinking about how the characters reacting to it wouldn't make sense or not. But let me give some counter arguments. 1. Meruem's En is lightspeed and that is pretty obvious with its description and how it acts. Meruem's light was still visible even as he was knocking Knuckle and Meleoron out. So even if he deactivated it the seconds he went to knock them out, it was still on even after he was done with Knuckle and he went on to Meleoron. 2. "Meleoron couldn't even think to activate his ability" was a statement given by the narator as Mele was knocked out. Normal soldier ants can decapitate a person faster than a non-nen human can even realise they are dead. This would mean that a standard ant can outpace a NN humans thoughts, Mele has nen which makes him definetly faster than a standard soldier ant. If a normal persons thoughts can travel at about roughly 0.007 seconds, Mele is possibly 10 times faster than that. This means that Meruem knocked them both out so fast that even though Meleoron was the second one to get knocked out he couldn't even think to activate Perfect plan.

I think Chimera Ants were probably designated a B level threat before the royal guard and Meriden were born and that Hunters weren’t accounting for or severely underestimated how strong the royal guard and a king would be.
Also Parison was deliberately messing with the hunter's response, which is directly stated. Meruem is way more of a threat to humanity than the other disasters.
They are B level threat because you can just nuke them (any country with enough military power could just blown up NGL) On the other hand something like a virus or disease might wipe out entire nations faster than a creature like meruem without any way of stoping it. Hence why they are greater threats.

you could also make the point if Meruem was actually the monster Netero and the world thought that he probably could have started to kill humens and nen users to extend his life energy to the point where the poisen of the poor mans rose would wear of with his regeneration. We can see his stamina and resisting returning after he recieved the life force of his royal guards and even tho they are stronger then most other characters the accumulation of several nen users would surely extend his life. But given his newly found humanity and seeing what humans would sacrifise just to beat him no matter his intentions he chose to die and spend his last moments with the person he loved rather then going on a killing spree just to further proof a point that he is a monster who would kill for survival.

By then he can already probably sense and get to the dark continent to eat other beings closer to him and definitely with more twisted skills that defy all logic. Pretty sure that if you give Chrollo enough prep time there is no one in the HxH verse who he cant kill. Ging, Silva and Pariston are also guys that we have no idea how strong their 100% is.

Chrollo's preparations are made according to his opponents, if both where given the same large ammount of prep time and knowledge of where/when they will be fighting I would be willing to bet on Chrollo.

Firstly because Meruem was simply stronger than old man Netero secondly because no one in the hunters had any idea how Meruem's powers worked or how strong he was. He fought old Netero, the man himself knew he was far from his prime. Give a guy like Ging or Chrollo prep time and knowledge about Meruem and the king is dead, simple as that. Meruem is a B-class threat, Ging is bound to face off against A+ level threats in the dark continent and Chrollo leads an A-class threat.

IDK, i think there are a lot of weapons that would kill Meruem. No one Human could ever beat him but Humans climbed to the top of the food chain by throwing out the rule book and "cheating". The best part of the arc for me was the idea that we saw The King as an insurmountable obstacle that nothing could overcome, and his fight with Netero enforces that idea. But with Neteros little speech about Humanities infinite potential for evolution/malice flips the entire thing over and it was in fact Meruem and the Ants who were up against an insurmountable obstacle. The Ants committed horrors sure but they were still in the nursery compared to humanity, who have had a lot more time playing this game. An Ant may take over any singular environment and become it's apex predator, but humans will glass an entire country if they believe it poses a threat to our position at the top. And that's strength no individual creature can match.
Netero is definitely not the strongest hunter in the world he said he’s around morel and knovs level in aura now. In his prime he was forsure up there tho but not during this fight.

No, there are definitely some flaws with HxH; the economy makes no sense, the flavor of the world is inconsistent, and there's always been a sense that the characters are travelling between set pieces Togashi was interested in rather than exploring an interconnected world (because that's what was actually happening). But is it a better master class of writing, character growth, and power systems than almost anything else you'll find? Absolutely.
Mereum both pre and post rose would low diff anybody 1 v 1. But you could take him if a few of the top Nen users jumped him. Especially if they had a plan before hand. One thing I thought of was have somebody take Feitan and prepare a super pain packer, then either sneak him in or distract Mereum long enough for him to get close and unleash it. Barbecued Ant King. If the sun appears next to him he'd be cooked before he could react. Now how you'd get Feitan in close enough beforehand to pull it off is whole nother beast entirely, but I'm sure a genius like Chrollo or Morel could figure something out.

I know they classify ants as B level calamities. But Meruem was completely different. His ability to absorb nen could have made him infinitely stronger than anyone. He only absorbed the royal guards and got a major boost; he never even got around to eating those thousands of citizens in cocoons. Mereum (besides Don Freecs) is the top of this verse
Imagine the hundreds of ant kings and queens on the dark continent and they're probably fighting for survival also there are several of those dirty bombs eventually he was going to be hit with one
Really late to this post, but I'll leave a novel regardless... A secondary ability of Emission that isn't talked about is that aura injected into things gives them supernatural abilities. It's not all distance or remote storage of aura, but also conversion of natural properties of other things (not the aura itself) and based on placement of the aura expended. For example, Lynch Fulbokko punches people and the aura she injects in them immediately pushes the truth out, colliding it with her aura, it doesn't work like normally expected emission standards. Melody uses music to transmit aura at a distance in a more conventional sense, but it hitting acknowledging ears changes the targets perception (again, altering a property of the target object). Likewise, Terrabellum can't use his ability at range, but his aura injected into others (with restrictions on which hands he uses for which properties) auto-transfers damage. With Knov, Luini, Leorio, Vocante and the Greed island pirate boxer all have the same philosophy to their moves. Place aura on a spot (in the boxers case, the air itself) and change the spots properties of space/time to use it as a focal point for teleportation. The whole lecture on how teleporting nen works on the black whale, backs that up, because you have to visit the place first and need to put a marker down to change the target spot's properties (or to fulfill a requirement to a restriction) to change it's properties to be an end point to a wormhole. Leorio/Ging circumvents that working by making the path manually to an end point by permeating their aura through the object touched and changing the properties of the endpoint to cut all the distance out but that also robs the user of knowing what's happening at the end point. It's not like transmutation in that the aura itself is a catalyst for changing properties in what it's put in, not taking them on itself. It's also not like manipulation in that it's changing the objects properties, not assigning sovereignty over it. That secondary working really nails it's spot on the nen chart next to manipulator and enhancer, without it, it's sort of juxtaposed as a completely random factor shoved in. With that being said, Meruem's bastardized Phagogenesis could be a naturally subconscious nen at work. His aura has to permeate his food, with the restriction being that it must be in his stomach, and the property change the food takes on, is the property of the food's prior abilities to leach out in an assimilable form. In caveman terms: Aura go in food, nen capability comes out.

since you were once an isekai fan, give Mairimashita Iruma-Kun manga a read. It is a little over 300 chapters long but in my opinion in the isekai genre, it is one of the best ones. Just about a boy being sold to a demon by his parents and him going to high school in said demon world.
Isn’t that definition of a specialist a misconception. There are specialists which abilities allow them to use other categories at 100% like kurapika. But generally a specialist title is given to someone who’s abilities falls outside the others. They don’t have to be able to use every category at 100%
The only issues i have here is that netero is being held far to high in regards to the whole of humans. Its stated himself that he hasnt been in the top 5 nen users in years. I could be wrong but i believe pariston also had something to do with netero having practically no help in fighting meruem. To me this implies that even within the hunter organization there were people who could of delt with meruem far better than netero. One such person being Ging freecss as he has been stated at least 2 times being a top 5 nen user. Then you have others who might not be top 5 nen users but still have far more power than both meruem and netero combined such as alluka/ Nanika. All in all meruem wasnt the threat that this video made it out to be. Other than that great video!
Netero does say that, but he is also clearly underselling himself, he says he cant see himself beating Pitou but then swats her away, and even says he's not much stronger than Knov and Morel, which we know damn well is bullshit.
I like to think Togashi uses the same scaling for HxH as YYH. A "B" level in YYH was able to take down a city, I could see Meruem doing this. An "S" level would be able to destroy a planet. IDK my head cannon.
The concept of nen, and its related power systems, have just the right amount of complications to make autists like us drool. I love complexity, and love to nerd out about ways to creatively use powers and such
The collective of the ants are B-ranked. Plus, it’s not a measure of strength, it’s a measure of threat. A plague for example would be ranked higher as it poses more threat to humanity as a whole than the chimera ants

Great observation and I get the Dark continent arc is on standby but the powers revealed in the most recent chapters makes Meruem look like the B level threat his kind was ranked as in the manga. The 4th princes powers are absolutely insane.
The princes have got some busted abilities and nen beasts, but I don’t know if any of them could actually even touch Mureum with his speed, or even manage to damage him if they did.

But the question is if you can cheat the System (to a reasonable extend) so i ask your thoughts on this: What about a catalyst-ability whose sole purpose it to be Useless and even HIGHLY Restrictive and then multiple more Abilities that all have the teeny tiny Restriction 'Can only be used while the useless Ability is active'. I can think of countles ways how this will not work but a few where it would actually work: You just gotta have 3+ Ability-Slots and the Useles Ability should be Mono-Type but more importantly have Restrictions that 'act on you' as long as its activated or even outright all-the-time. Kurapika, i think, gave me the idea cause i wondered if Emperors Time extreme Cost only helps Emperor Time or them all - and f this is exploitabe! Heres the kicker: Dowsing-Chain is pure Conjuration but its directly stated to get a (Slight) Boost when Kurapika is in Emperor Time, so all you gotta ask is where this comes from. Cause its a slight improvement, it cant be all of Emperor Time's Life-Burning, so the only logical conclusion is some 'left-over' gets to Kurapikas other Hatsu. Guy's, its not rocket-science, all you gotta remember is he decreased his Efficiency to 80% and then up to 100% and all that's on you is remember ""Hey, wait, isnt that how he started as?" So what i say is throwing Money into a Campfire can be of Benefit for more Abilities than actually have the Activation-Requirement 'Burn Money'' IF you pull it off.
Instead of powerful scaling I'd love to hear more about the things you can do with Nen. It seems to be the most creative power system and I wonder if you could give yourself powers from other anime with it. Could Kurapika have given himself a basic sharingan and evolved it by sacrificing more stuff with nen? If you can make all the cards in greed island could you make pokemon or digimon? Could a gamer make a The gamer ability or something close to it? Knuckle put units of nen on a screen after all so why not a full stat screen you can do stuff with? Seems like so much you could do.

Random critique for the series but I wish the narrator was toned down a lot. The narrator a lot of times would come on and explain the most basic things that anyone who’s watching the show would already know. I’m not referring to the narrator explaining deep lore, nen etc, only very simple things that don’t need to be explained.

I think because of the way the ants work along with their New personalities And roles that they were born with they would just overpower any past lives so much that it would be imposible For them to remember anything. They Are just to "Set in their ways" to ever remember their past lives

Knuckle turned his eyes not head. Also it was bassically instantly after he was detected.

Give a guy like Ging or Chrollo prep time and knowledge about Meruem and the king is dead, simple as that. Meruem is a B-class threat, Ging is bound to face off against A+ level threats in the dark continent and Chrollo leads an A-class threat.

IDK, i think there are a lot of weapons that would kill Meruem. No one Human could ever beat him but Humans climbed to the top of the food chain by throwing out the rule book and "cheating".
The best part of the arc for me was the idea that we saw The King as an insurmountable obstacle that nothing could overcome, and his fight with Netero enforces that idea. But with Neteros little speech about Humanities infinite potential for evolution/malice flips the entire thing over and it was in fact Meruem and the Ants who were up against an insurmountable obstacle. The Ants committed horrors sure but they were still in the nursery compared to humanity, who have had a lot more time playing this game.
An Ant may take over any singular environment and become it's apex predator, but humans will glass an entire country if they believe it poses a threat to our position at the top. And that's strength no individual creature can match.

Perfect? No, there are definitely some flaws with HxH; the economy makes no sense, the flavor of the world is inconsistent, and there's always been a sense that the characters are travelling between set pieces Togashi was interested in rather than exploring an interconnected world (because that's what was actually happening).
But is it a better master class of writing, character growth, and power systems than almost anything else you'll find? Absolutely.
Mereum both pre and post rose would low diff anybody 1 v 1. But you could take him if a few of the top Nen users jumped him. Especially if they had a plan before hand. One thing I thought of was have somebody take Feitan and prepare a super pain packer, then either sneak him in or distract Mereum long enough for him to get close and unleash it. Barbecued Ant King. If the sun appears next to him he'd be cooked before he could react. Now how you'd get Feitan in close enough beforehand to pull it off is whole nother beast entirely, but I'm sure a genius like Chrollo or Morel could figure something out.

A secondary ability of Emission that isn't talked about is that aura injected into things gives them supernatural abilities. It's not all distance or remote storage of aura, but also conversion of natural properties of other things (not the aura itself) and based on placement of the aura expended. For example, Lynch Fulbokko punches people and the aura she injects in them immediately pushes the truth out, colliding it with her aura, it doesn't work like normally expected emission standards. Melody uses music to transmit aura at a distance in a more conventional sense, but it hitting acknowledging ears changes the targets perception (again, altering a property of the target object). Likewise, Terrabellum can't use his ability at range, but his aura injected into others (with restrictions on which hands he uses for which properties) auto-transfers damage.
With Knov, Luini, Leorio, Vocante and the Greed island pirate boxer all have the same philosophy to their moves. Place aura on a spot (in the boxers case, the air itself) and change the spots properties of space/time to use it as a focal point for teleportation. The whole lecture on how teleporting nen works on the black whale, backs that up, because you have to visit the place first and need to put a marker down to change the target spot's properties (or to fulfill a requirement to a restriction) to change it's properties to be an end point to a wormhole. Leorio/Ging circumvents that working by making the path manually to an end point by permeating their aura through the object touched and changing the properties of the endpoint to cut all the distance out but that also robs the user of knowing what's happening at the end point. It's not like transmutation in that the aura itself is a catalyst for changing properties in what it's put in, not taking them on itself. It's also not like manipulation in that it's changing the objects properties, not assigning sovereignty over it. That secondary working really nails it's spot on the nen chart next to manipulator and enhancer, without it, it's sort of juxtaposed as a completely random factor shoved in.
With that being said, Meruem's bastardized Phagogenesis could be a naturally subconscious nen at work. His aura has to permeate his food, with the restriction being that it must be in his stomach, and the property change the food takes on, is the property of the food's prior abilities to leach out in an assimilable form. In caveman terms: Aura go in food, nen capability comes out.

since you were once an isekai fan, give Mairimashita Iruma-Kun manga a read. It is a little over 300 chapters long but in my opinion in the isekai genre, it is one of the best ones. Just about a boy being sold to a demon by his parents and him going to high school in said demon world.
Isn’t that definition of a specialist a misconception. There are specialists which abilities allow them to use other categories at 100% like kurapika. But generally a specialist title is given to someone who’s abilities falls outside the others. They don’t have to be able to use every category at 100%

The only issues i have here is that netero is being held far to high in regards to the whole of humans. Its stated himself that he hasnt been in the top 5 nen users in years.
I could be wrong but i believe pariston also had something to do with netero having practically no help in fighting meruem.
To me this implies that even within the hunter organization there were people who could of delt with meruem far better than netero. One such person being Ging freecss as he has been stated at least 2 times being a top 5 nen user. Then you have others who might not be top 5 nen users but still have far more power than both meruem and netero combined such as alluka/ Nanika.

Great observation and I get the Dark continent arc is on standby but the powers revealed in the most recent chapters makes Meruem look like the B level threat his kind was ranked as in the manga. The 4th princes powers are absolutely insane.

I encourage everyone to think about their own Nen-Ability: ITS FUN, to say the least.
But the question is if you can cheat the System (to a reasonable extend) so i ask your thoughts on this: What about a catalyst-ability whose sole purpose it to be Useless and even HIGHLY Restrictive and then multiple more Abilities that all have the teeny tiny Restriction 'Can only be used while the useless Ability is active'. I can think of countles ways how this will not work but a few where it would actually work: You just gotta have 3+ Ability-Slots and the Useles Ability should be Mono-Type but more importantly have Restrictions that 'act on you' as long as its activated or even outright all-the-time. Kurapika, i think, gave me the idea cause i wondered if Emperors Time extreme Cost only helps Emperor Time or them all - and f this is exploitabe! Heres the kicker: Dowsing-Chain is pure Conjuration but its directly stated to get a (Slight) Boost when Kurapika is in Emperor Time, so all you gotta ask is where this comes from. Cause its a slight improvement, it cant be all of Emperor Time's Life-Burning, so the only logical conclusion is some 'left-over' gets to Kurapikas other Hatsu. Guy's, its not rocket-science, all you gotta remember is he decreased his Efficiency to 80% and then up to 100% and all that's on you is remember ""Hey, wait, isnt that how he started as?"

It seems to be the most creative power system and I wonder if you could give yourself powers from other anime with it. Random critique for the series but I wish the narrator was toned down a lot. The narrator a lot of times would come on and explain the most basic things that anyone who’s watching the show would already know.
