The is the adventure bike we need! Make it injection and bring the seat down by a couple of inches - and that's the dream bike. Enough with the monstrous 1200cc excessive adventure bikes that weight a ton and can't handle easy gravel road without first adjusting 100's of electronic settings. Great video and great bike!
Nice setup, a bit of overkill for the way I ride, mostly day trips in the AZ desert. I did notice one critical thing you did not have. You mentioned rim locks (which I don't have) and flat tires, but you did not mention what to do WHEN you have a flat tire. I ride a DR650. I like the simple carbureted air cooled engine. I have added a lot of stuff, but not as much as you have. One thing I really like about the DR is that an aftermarket centerstand is available for it, and it was the first accessory I got for the bike when I got it. I also carry tools to remove wheels and tires, spare tubes (I use the super thick 4mm tubes) tire mounting lube, and a small 12V compressor. I have found through years of experience that if your bike is in good shape, the biggest threat to you if you are riding by yourself 50 miles from civilization is a flat tire. And without a way to support the bike while removing the wheel, you are SOL. I wish manufacturers would use tubeless tires on dual sport bikes. BMW uses them on their big GS, but way back in 1986, Honda used them on the Rebel 450. So it is just as cheap and easy to build a rim capable of running tubeless tires as is to make one for tubed type tires. I think DOT should require manufacturers to put tubeless tires on all street legal bikes, including dual sports and adventure bikes.
thanks for your comments. Hopefully you watched the DR650 video we just did. Anyway, regarding flats, we pack tubes, tools, and a pump. We fit the flat as soon as it happens! Justin
I've been riding my DRZ since I bought it new in 2001 and it has been extremely reliable. However, as others have said the engine cases are fragile, I put the shift lever through one the first week I had the bike. I think of my bike as a lightweight ADV bike as well and if you ride it that way it's an awesome bike. If you want it to be a real dirt bike, you will be disappointed. Great video, thanks.
Hey Justin I just got a used 2020 DRZ and I am very happy with it. I like your videos, my bike came with a lot of the accessories but I can see where I need more. By the way, I know your mom, I've been going to CCR and Mercy Dental for about 7 years now. She loves to tell me about you! Great job, keep up the good work!
I just had to comment. I watched a review of the new KTM lightweight adventure. Awesome bike but I think the build here would even give the KTM a run for its. I just can't understand why Suzuki hasn't ran with this concept! I think they would blow everyone else out of the water with sales. A 23 year old design, that's still popular today!
One thing (of the many) that I added to my 2007 SM is an Atlas Throttle Lock. Oh my has this mod transformed the long range comfort when the slab seems to never end. Worth every dime. The other biggie is custom fabbed windscreen mount that is adjustable and a screen from a CSC RX3. 430-450cc, fuel injection, 6spd, a little more wind protection and I would consider buying a new one. Sorta like the direction Honda is going with the 250 Rally but need the extra displacement for mountain passes, headwinds, and loaded touring. Btw, I will be riding my SM out to Great Basin NP from Reno 6/11/17 via Hwy 50. On the way back I will be spending some time in the Reese River Valley and Arc Dome Wilderness. For all the DRZ's shortcomings, it seems to me they are all easy to live with especially for the price. I really like mine. Thanks for the great vid Justin. I like the way you set up the bike and judging from your comments you pay close attention to what you need and not just what you want.
I would only put a kick starter on it as well - it is almost impossible to push start the DRZ400 as it has so much compression - it takes a few hours but well worth it if your battery dies.
Great info. So many choices, it's confusing and most older (57) casual riders who don't have time to research all the options. Very Nice to spotlight some choices here. Enjoy my DRZ/2012 and agree on the Dunlap D 606's. Installed mine about a 1000 miles ago and holding up well. Mostly hard pack and shale in So Cal Mountains and Desert. Pleasantly surprised with street performance, even when wet. Appreciate the Jetting info. good video
Very good information. I have been running a DRZ400 for 3 years & have found it an excellent choice for dual sporting They are fun & not that expensive. Thanks for sharing!
I have the auto clutch on mine. Game changer on tight trails. Engages to slow u on the downhill and impossible to stall the bike. Can add a kick start too for 250$ for when the battery dies
Suzuki should release a DRZ400 Adventure, it would sell like hot cakes, price it at the Scram 411. I bought one of the very first DRZ400S way back when, put on an IMS 4 gal tank and replaced all the stock plastics, lights, turn signals etc with Acerbis. That way when I sold the bike, all the stock plastics were still brand new. One big small enhancement was a bigger front sprocket, got me up to 80-90 mph.
Nice set up. I adventurized my DRZ400 back in 2008. That has given me 8 years of DRZ riding (40K on that bike triple digits on all my other bikes). I've settled on D606 rear tires and M21 front tires as the only way to go. Personally I like the Sargent seat. I've swapped out all the brake lines for stainless steel and have upgraded the exhaust. For a wind screen I got a Dakar wind screen abandoned by a BMW ride. It fits awesome and makes the bike look like Darth Vader. Gone through two sets of Wolfmen saddle bags, I added the kick starter to the street model for those times where the battery decides it has had enough. Just about everything else on your bike I have some version of. The weakest part of the DRZ is the jetting. Even with after market jetting, changing altitudes greatly effects the bike. I have to re-jet if I am going from sea level to anything over 8000 feet or the bike rides like crap.
To give some more power you should consider the Fcr 39mm carb and hotcams upgrade. With all that added weight it will definitely help. I have a review video on my channel about the carb and cams.
Thanks a lot Noob! That is the goal. I love adventure riding and like to share realistic/worthwhile mods that really make ADV riding more doable and enjoyable. I am glad you liked it! - Justin
@@rmatvmc The video is almost 5 years old but on the mark for my issues. So I have added a DRZ400 to my stable. It’s slow, only a 5 speed, very old design and that is what is great about it. I want solid and stable, parts will be available for another 50 years. I really don’t care about performance since I’m not racing. I just want reliable and easy to service. So I get the DRZ400, and some idiot along the way decides he needs to install cool FMF power core muffler, only it doesn’t muffle any thing. That sucker is so loud wildlife will drop dead when I ride by. I want quiet and no maintenance. Some one suggested repacking. Now I have had many many road bikes in the past 50 years that were quiet and I never had to repack a stupid muffler. So I repacked this FMF piece of junk and it didn’t change anything. Needless to say, I will never waste my time do that again. So now that you have turned your DRZ into an adventure bike for long trips. What muffler is on the thing? Don’t tell me you waste your time repacking the stupid thing ever 3000 miles.
My compliments on your well thought out build, pretty smart and you've actually truly really used it. Good stuff, makes sense except color. I'm not picking on YOU but here's my experience with adventuring around on motorcycles : OK ok, I've been mostly riding around in Thailand, Laos, Taiwan, Bali and Philippines over the years and black colored everything, instrument this, tank that, especially bags, seats, everything always black black black is a total 100% pain in the ass. I've grown to really hate black because of several reasons, not because of the nice appearance, it's because of function. Black bags are the worst color there is except for style and marketing. In low light conditions it's hard to find things inside, you can't see. In Philippines once, I lost a black key inside a black bag, two FIlipino guys and myself went nuts trying to find WTF happened to the key forEVER and it was inside the damn bag but in a spot where it wasn't so easy to feel it either. In asia it attracts mosquitos, fact. In the hot sun they scorch and that's so serious that you almost need to spray paint them or bungee a light stretchy cover over stuff to keep from burning up everything inside and yourself on the bike. Tan, khaki, white, African safari lighter colors really work better unless you're high in the US mountains of Colorado or Montana etc (which is nice) then black is not as bad but still at night I hate black. It only looks nice and it's nicey nice pulling up to the coffee shop or whatever groovy joint in Austin, TX, otherwise it's just flat, plain old the worst color of all on a long trip in the dark as if that doesn't always happen or your trip better not be in the tropics, AZ, New Mexico or Florida. Or else just love black because it looks cool for facebook etc, and endure all the discomforts that are inherently a part of black accessories, don't worry be happy.
InReach or similar device is not helpful if the rider and bike are in different locations and the rider can't get to the bike. I always carry my InReach on my person. Good video. Love my DRZ.
My '07 DRZ has 89,000km on the clock. I came to it looking for simplicity and reliability after 30 years of Ducatis....I ain't goin' back! Yeah...Ole Sweetpea is modded and pimped alright but the single biggest improvement is the ACT WIDE RATIO gearset!!!! WAKE UP SUZUKI!!! Why would you mate a close ratio tranny to such a torquey engine? Please don't comment on changing sprocket sizes. It's not the same as widening the ratio between gears.....I tried everything before I split the case and went all the way. With the stock transmission you can either sprocket up for the road or down for trail but you'll never have both. Now I've got a nice low 1st gear for single tracking and a sensible gearspread to where I can run 125km/hr all day in 5th.
I've been tempted by getting the latest and greatest adventure bikes from Honda, KTM, Husq... but honestly I think I might buy either a DR-Z400S or KLR650 and build it.
I recieved an email with this video link. I also watched the KLR video as well. I have a fully built DRZ 400S now and was considering a KLR but after riding a KLR I am thinking of adding the saddlebags and seat to my current DRZ. My rear shock is already built by Race Tech and I did a RM250 front end swap. Its a great dirt bike, but I feel like if I go back to 15/47 gearing, add bags, and a seat to my DRZ I can avoid the expense and cost of building a KLR. I avoid the interstates no matter what.
coming from a KLR myself, I can't help but think your DRZ (especially with that suspension) is the way to go. I liked my KLR, but there is no way I could go back.....Justin
Thanks for the reply, I did 150 mile dual sport ride Monday and I think decided I am just gonna get real dual sport tires (maybe TKC80) vs DOT knobbies, a better seat, some side racks with soft bags, its time for another set of sprockets and chain so I will change gearing now. I have had great luck with the Primary Drive stuff!
i am in that dilema my self right now. i have a klr and am thinking of going the drz400 way. also thought of a ktm 690 ( i know they are different bikes), just need something lighter than the klr. But after riding the drz400 (specially cause of my height 5'7") I am gonna go with the dDR. Justin would you ever consider the 690 over the dr 400. thanks.
The 690 may be the ultimate ADV bike. It does amazingly well off-road and has great power for the street. However it isn't cheap and it cost a little more to set up. It holds very little fuel and getting a fuel tanks for it cost more than the DRZ. If money is no issue, go with the 690. If it is - the DRZ400 may be the best bang for the buck.
my biggest question would be, what do you do with the MX style seat, my DRZ gave me a sore butt ... oh yeah, standing up was a fix!!! haha ... OK I watched until the end ... seat concepts ... nice! Just checked your website, about $2k in accessories on your bike, now that is something!
Very informative and helpfull video - thanks a lot! Any good advice where one can modify a DRZ the way you did it. I would be highly interested in that!
I’m not a big fan of those skid plates because the get narrow right before the foot pegs and leave part of the frame exposed to rocks and what not. I use a Devol Racing skid plate, which has better coverage at the rear.
Suzuki, you have a winner but if you build on the on the design you would have such big seller give the bike a little better wind protection better foot pegs make it more off-road Worthy. plus updating the look with Kawasaki Honda s new bikes you would have a real winner if you people would just think
And while they are at it, it needs 6 gears! I forgot to address the gearing in this, but I left it stock because I didn't want to sacrifice top speed. But a lower first gear would be nice and a slightly taller top gear would be too. they need 6 gears!! - Justin
Excellent video brother! Went with the wolfman soft bags as well. May I make 1 suggestion concerning performance, open up the stock exhaust by removing the restrictor in the end of the pipe. Still quiet by comparison to aftermarket pipes but gives peace of mind while on crowded highways. Really enjoyed the fully loaded wheelies, got a good chuckle out of it! Safe trails.
thought about replacing my old xr600 with a smaller lighter bike but come to find out the 400 actually weighs considerably more than an xr600 so i wound up with the klx300 that weighs a full 100 lbs less
I have a klx 300 and a klx 400(same bike as drz) and I will tell you they feel very similar in weight while riding. The 400 just has a little more power. I have been impressed with my 300. I think ots an ideal off road bike.
Hey Justin, have you had good luck with the stator running your heated gear and accessory options? If you had good luck with the stator, please include approx mileage you achieved with your reply. I wanna go riding with you guys!
are you running stock gears or did you change it and if so what did you find that works best for you . the drz400e ran a 14/47 I my self will be 99% dirt 1% street
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA! Let's do a little math here: stock tank is 2.6 gallons. You originally got 130 miles, so that works out to 50mpg. After you added the JD jet kit AND the IMS 4 gallon tank, your range went to "over" 200 miles. Lol, mpg still works out to (a little over) 50. I will definitely agree that rejetting and opening the airbox make the thing run better, but don't pretend the rejet gave you the extra 70 mile range; the extra 1.3 gallons in your oversize tank did. C'mon, man....
The roads here in Utah have super high speed limits. Can I cruise at 80 - 85mph on the DRZ400 for hours at a time? I'd be wiling to do mods like a bore kit or something.
Great build. The DRZ is on the list as a potential round-the-globe trip. one question if I may, do you think the rear sub frame can handle 40kgs of luggage and a 65kgs passenger over bumpy stuff?
The pannier racks add some rigidity, but the subframe mounts to the frame are pretty weak. We haven’t broke one yet, but if I was packing that much weight I would reinforce some things. Thanks *Justin*
Tenny80 Might be an option. Trying to go as light as possible as I can't stand on the pegs a blast through rough stuff with the wife on the back so I have to pick my way carefully. Last year we did Vietnam on a 250 and at times that was a handful in the mud.
gees luise you sound well traveled. what kind of a ball park figure do you like to keep in the bank or on hand when you do all this traveling you talk about, Rosbif? id have to imagine you must have tens of thousands to your name.
Rosbif06600 I`m in your exact same dilema, I started to consider the Royal Enfield Himalayan but looks like it still has some unfixed issues. I sold my klr650 because at some times it felt like a big dumb cow... specially on gravel or muddy paths. Let me know what ideas you have.
When ever I look at purchasing a used one, I see guys selling them for the brand new price and they think oh I did a couple mods its worth that. The bike would be 15 years old.
J Wilkinson yea same here they selling ones 3 years old for 7k. Wtf. Shits are going for 5-7k used idk wtf crack ppl smoke. This is why I’m gonna buy. New one. They want new price for a used one lol
Thats why I am converting my 2008 YZ 450. Spending less then a grand on parts, title and license plate. Because when you fully modify a bike for yourself and have spent alot of money and time doing it. You do not wana go and redo it to another one. The DRZ 400 I would love to take that motor and have a mechanic to mount the motor into a 450 motocross frame and be happy. You could modify from there with all the simple stuff. Cams, exhaust, carburetor, kick start, hand guards, skid plate, case savers, and lastly a better dual sport kit.
Great video (I really liked it). Apologies if this has been asked and answered,I scrolled through several replies and didn't see it. I'm selling my CRF250L to buy something bigger as it just really isn't fitting my needs (well...my wants :p ) like I hoped it would. I'm not above buying a DR650 if that's what I need, but at 165lbs (expereinced rider, been riding since I was 4,I'm 44 now) I'd rather have something a bit lighter like the DRZ400S to build for ADV style rides/trips (I have dirt bikes for more serious trail riding). You mentioned a few times about riding on the hwy and "70-75MPH". How does the bike handle riding at those speeds with the 5 speed? Asking because I want to do longer (and longer) trips, and may actually some time down the road to visit our oldest child who now lives several hundred miles away (over 800--note,I have ridden out to see her twice in the last 15 months, once on a Shadow ACE740 on the interstate, the other on the CRF250L but I stayed off the interstate, how would the DRZ fare compared to the CRF where it has a 5 speed and the CRF250L has that 6th gear on longer rides between 65-70MPH,I guess is what I'm asking). I'm reasonably certain te DR650 would be bearable (if not optimum) for this...is the DRZ even capable without expecting too much torture or mechanicals? Thanks in advance :)
I did a WR250R build and I am liking the DRZ a bit better; mostly becuase of the highways. the 250 just doesn't have the power to get up hills, face a headwind, or pass cars without a bit of frustration. I just did a build and have been riding a DR650. I have to say that it is a toss up between the 400 and 650. both make great adv bikes. both do well at highway speeds (70-75) with no problems. Both are great off-road. the 400 has better suspension in my opinion and is more adjustable. It is hard to say which one I like better. you won't go wrong with either....Jusitn
Can you please make a list of the parts you have installed on the this bike? Maybe even along with part numbers. I have the same bike with the same tank, and can't seem to find the graphics on your website. Also the choices in foot pegs on the site are very slim.
There is a link in the description that will take you to our DRZ page for this bike build video. ..just in case, here is that link for you! www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sales/682/Suzuki-DRZ400?TH-cam&TH-camvideos&

"They quit making the off-road only version back in 2007" - No, America stopped receiving it. We still get them brand new in Australia. I have a 2016 model 400E
In Europe you can't get them new since 2008-ish. This leads to them beeing extremely expensive. I'm talking ~4000€ (5k$) for a 2006 model with 20-30 thousand km on the clock. It's just sad
There is one reason I prefer the Xr 400r for adventure, that is I don't feel well relying on an e start i prefer a kick start if I'm going far from civilization so I don't worry about batteries or anything
It seems a Yamaha TW200 would be the better zombie apocalypse bike! What does rocky mountain ATV think of those? I am trying to decide between a DRZ400 or the TW200....thanks....
DR-Z400 stock suspension isn't great by any mean, but its decent enough for an average rider (i'm 180 lbs), and certainly way better than the suspension on a DR650 or a KLX250. i used to own a GasGas EC450 before my DRZ, and that thing had fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted forks and and Öhlins shock, which made the DRZ suspension feel like garbage for me at first but its still decent enough for average DRZ rider both on street and trails, i rode my DRZ on long street rides (400-500km) with friends on sportbikes, and took it on motocross track and hare scramble and it still survived both which is good enough for a $2,500 bike.
Yeah, I hear you. I have raced MX, offroad, and everything in between and suspension is critical. But for ADV riding, it just isn't as critical. It is slower paced and more chill. Compared to a KLR650, the DRZ is fantastic:) - Justin
I ran stock with no issues, but I have heard of others having them fail. If you run a couple accessories at once, a high output would be a good idea for sure. - Justin
Nice bike, and a great review of it! Appreciate the tire info as I'm about due and my old Dr 350 SE is pretty similar. Any experience with the Heidenau K 60 tires?
I haven't run the Heidenau tires yet. Some of the other guys here have on the bigger bikes. Right now, I still lean towards the Dunlop D606 for me on this bike....Justin

So now that you have turned your DRZ into an adventure bike for long trips. What muffler is on the thing? Don’t tell me you waste your time repacking the stupid thing ever 3000 miles.
My friend lost his oil drain bolt on his DRZ riding in Black Rock. We managed a plug, flushed out the metal particles and it never missed a beat
Where did you get the wide ratio and how much did it cost? I would love that!
Very nice set up. I also think of my DRZ as a lightweight adventure bike with very good off-road capabilities.
Clear. Comprehensive. Informative. Succienct. Well thought out and presented.
thanks! - Justin
Make sure you put loctite on the stator screws and primary drive gear nut.
I've been tempted by getting the latest and greatest adventure bikes from Honda, KTM, Husq... but honestly I think I might buy either a DR-Z400S or KLR650 and build it.
Love the video, clear concise, not pushy sales pitch. Excellent job ! Great looking build too.
Thanks *Benjamin Manfre*. We love the DRZ and how cool you can trick these things out. Cheers
yep got the michelin tyres
great for dirt and the beaches!
Awesome bike Justin. Grab Ray and all the other crew guys and let's all go ride with 'MrDuhfactor' soon.
We do need to hook up one of these days!
Justin would you ever consider the 690 over the dr 400. thanks.
keep the drz trust me, i love my klr but its to heavy off road. Gonna have more fun on the dr
Nice set up, I love my DRZ as well. Ive done much of the same mods, just different.
They are tough to beat!
I would be nice if you could do a compare and contrast between the WR 250 R and the DRZ. Both great foundations for ADV ,
I will be doing one soon! I have spent lots of time on both. coming soon..... - Justin
Got that bike for my GF, loves it. I ride a coolman ct200 when camping.
Thanks for a great video I've been watching loads to work out what my first adventure bike should be and this has helped so much thanks again
Awesome, glad it helped you out.
Thanks for watching!
I had one of one of the early tin tank DRz400 - It was stupidly awesome. Why I sold it I'll never know.
The S model typically came with the metal tank here in the UK as it use to be the law and the E model came with the plastic tank
my biggest question would be, what do you do with the MX style seat, my DRZ gave me a sore butt ... oh yeah, standing up was a fix!!! haha ... OK I watched until the end ... seat concepts ... nice! Just checked your website, about $2k in accessories on your bike, now that is something!
Cool bike. Another option is to start with an SM and put dirt wheels on it.
Awesome, I'm considering buying a DRZ 400 E model.
@rocky Mountain ATV MC -- First off i love the bike build videos keep them going! Any way yall could do a DR650 adventure build?
I have one in the works. Not sure when I will be done though! thanks!
Very informative and helpfull video - thanks a lot! Any good advice where one can modify a DRZ the way you did it. I would be highly interested in that!
TKC80 are awesome tires if you want the best of both street and dirt.
You have the coolest job ever ! I have watched most of your videos great bike skills. Great info !
thanks man! i can't complain :) - Justin
A Lectron carb is a magical component, I highly recommend them. Sea level or 10,000’ they work great.
I’m not a big fan of those skid plates because the get narrow right before the foot pegs and leave part of the frame exposed to rocks and what not. I use a Devol Racing skid plate, which has better coverage at the rear.
Thay still make the off road bike here in Australia there called drz 400e’s
My dream bike
Great video man!
- Justin
2020 and the drz400E is still in production. they didn't quit making it 07, they stopped selling it in USA.
Safe trails.
thanks a lot, Dan! - Justin
Great setup ! Does the seat concepts seat increase the ride height ? Thanks
What did all the upgrades cost in total?
A lot!
Two words..... case savers. Great video though!
Holy crap. Nothings stock on that bike! How much did it cost for all those upgrades?
Costs nothing when he gets paid to sell crap on youtube.
J C, if it’s so reliable, why do the wheels fall off. 🤪🤣😜
Great video! You guys always do a great job!
They still make the full off road model in new Zealand and Australia
They make them all in Japan, they are available for the Australian market
Great mods - suspect the total cost of them exceed the new bike cost though :-)
Probably not, but there isn't a bike out there that doesn't need to be this heavily mod'ed to do this kind of riding.
still cheaper than a GS
Love your set up
drooling rn...thanks for sharing!
Awesome job on the video, great editing, cool clips and I've been waiting on this bike build for months! 👍🏽👍🏽
Jason is the man!
Does this channel have videos on how to install radiator guards, case guards, fuel tank etc.
2020 Drz 400e are sold in australia and are road legal best thing you can do for the drz400s is get a 400e carby
thought about replacing my old xr600 with a smaller lighter bike but come to find out the 400 actually weighs considerably more than an xr600 so i wound up with the klx300 that weighs a full 100 lbs less
I have a klx 300 and a klx 400(same bike as drz) and I will tell you they feel very similar in weight while riding. The 400 just has a little more power. I have been impressed with my 300. I think ots an ideal off road bike.
Really love Rocky mountain builds! Could you guys do a KTM 150sx/xcw bike build? Thanks
Hey Justin, have you had good luck with the stator running your heated gear and accessory options? If you had good luck with the stator, please include approx mileage you achieved with your reply. I wanna go riding with you guys!
You live more in 5 minutes on a motorcycle than most people do in a lifetime
are you running stock gears or did you change it and if so what did you find that works best for you . the drz400e ran a 14/47 I my self will be 99% dirt 1% street
Love the graphics on the tank do you make them for a clarke 3.9?
Can we buy this graphics
I used to own a drz400 with 440 big bore kit and a 41ml Bing carby only thing that lets it down is the suspension
A quick question. Did you do the 3x3 airbox mod or leave it stock? Thanks in advance.
We
haven’t broke one yet, but if I was packing that much weight I would reinforce some things. Thanks *Justin*
Rosbif06600 sounds like you want a klr 650 :)
Let me know what ideas you have.
great video. what brand of crash bars would work best with the four gallon gas tank?
Hi, great video. I cant find the Cee Bailey's windshield setup on your website. Can you please send a link?
Killer setup!!!
That Inreach will serve you alot better in your jacket pocket if you crash and cant get back to your bike you may as well not have one.
When ever I look at purchasing a used one, I see guys selling them for the brand new price and they think oh I did a couple mods its worth that. The bike would be 15 years old.
Starcade 85 talk radio
Hahahaha, I’ve seen BRAND NEW last year models of the DRZ400 sold for a grand less than that.... lol
It is hard to say which one I like better. you won't go wrong with either....Jusitn
would love to know about your electronics system on this bike
I would love to see a video on how you did all your wiring
Can you please make a list of the parts you have installed on the this bike? Maybe even along with part numbers. I have the same bike with the same tank, and can't seem to find the graphics on your website. Also the choices in foot pegs on the site are very slim.
There is a link in the description that will take you to our DRZ page for this bike build video. ..just in case, here is that link for you! www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sales/682/Suzuki-DRZ400?TH-cam&TH-camvideos&
*Howard Nicklin IV* - Tank graphics were custom made for the Bike Build we apologize. Nice Bike!
Rocky Mountain ATV MC how do I get custom made graphics for my IMS tank?
*Howard Nicklin IV* We apoligize. We do not offer these tank graphics for the IMS tank at this time. These were made primarily for the bike build only. We only offer the Tank and Shroud graphics for your OEM set up. Here is a link: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/985/74280/Attack-Graphics-Traverse-Radiator-Shroud-Decals
PARTS PARTS PARTS and it is a tractor . You could find a exhaust valve in Guam and a front rotor in the outback .
Excellent, thank you.
Did you upgrade your sprockets for more highway worthiness or stator for better ability to charge/run electronics?
"They quit making the off-road only version back in 2007" - No, America stopped receiving it. We still get them brand new in Australia. I have a 2016 model 400E
good to know! thanks.
In Europe you can't get them new since 2008-ish. This leads to them beeing extremely expensive. I'm talking ~4000€ (5k$) for a 2006 model with 20-30 thousand km on the clock. It's just sad
We still have them new and they are still that price used in Canada.
There is one reason I prefer the Xr 400r for adventure, that is I don't feel well relying on an e start i prefer a kick start if I'm going far from civilization so I don't worry about batteries or anything
Wish list ATC gearbox kit.
It seems a Yamaha TW200 would be the better zombie apocalypse bike! What does rocky mountain ATV think of those? I am trying to decide between a DRZ400 or the TW200....thanks....
sweet!😁 you just inspired me! Hey, no Suspension mods needed on the Drz?
I am a light weight, so I get by just fine. It wouldn't hurt to get a heavier shock spring when packing gear.....Justin
Almost looked like a chain hit at 2:05! I just put a deposit on a '21 today haha.
You're right! I think it did rub a bit! It just gave me better traction:) - Justin
good video!!!!
Nice video, you can make another video how NOT to do TANK GRAPHICS as it hurts my OCD
if suzuki made new drz with lightweight frame, fuel injection and maybe modernized look, they would sell like hotcakes.
megapet777
As long as the old design sells like hot cakes, they feel no need to make changes... “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Rick Sanchez C137 But it would sell even more. Wouldnt they want more money?
Awesome bike brother! JD Jet Kit is definitely a must. Are you going to do the exhaust too?
probably not. I am not looking for more power and I hate loud exhausts. Stock seems fine....Justin
What kind of High Output Stator are you using or can you recommend?
I ran stock with no issues, but I have heard of others having them fail. If you run a couple accessories at once, a high output would be a good idea for sure. - Justin
great video thanks! waht kind of add lights have you on DRZ? it has connected to the battery or has a own battery pack?
*markozer0* Baja Designs Squadron Pro LED Lights. Connected back to the battery, yes. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sales/682/Suzuki-DRZ400
many thanks! last question if I can: do you know the springs weight of OEM rear shock (red color MY2004) and front forks?
DRZ400E model's are 5.3kg/mm and S models are 5.5kg/mm. Front fork springs: 8.63N/0.88KG. Cheers
Wow that windscreen is a killer, literally...LOL
It is big, but I have liked it more than I thought I would. Love it on the highway! - Justin
Meeker Extreme I have never heard of anyone dying from a windscreen.
How are the plastic dash plate and the ram mounts secured to the top triple clamp?
Nice bike, and a great review of it! Appreciate the tire info as I'm about due and my old Dr 350 SE is pretty similar. Any experience with the Heidenau K 60 tires?
I haven't run the Heidenau tires yet. Some of the other guys here have on the bigger bikes. Right now, I still lean towards the Dunlop D606 for me on this bike....Justin
