  • The ceiling fan is one of the most common appliances in our household. you can connect a ceiling fan directly to the switch without a regulator. But if you need to control the speed of a ceiling fan, you will have to connect a regulator between the fan and switch.
    Have you ever think, how these fan regulators are controlling fan speed?
    In this video. We are explaining the working of all types of fan ceiling fan regulators.

    wouldn't adding a capacitor in series with an inductive motor cause it to go faster than without by canceling out some of the motor inductance and allowing even more current flow?

    Want to know if I could save some energy by lowering fan speed to minimum in resisitive type regulators.

      Yes, fan requires no external capacitor.

      Next time buy only BLDC fans. No humming at any speed and power consumption is less than half for same air flow. In BLDC fan you don't need an external regulator.

    I want to use a regulator on the input of my 12v 10Amp Transformer to get a variable output AC Voltage (which i will later rectify by a beidge rectifier)
    So would a Capacitive type regulator (3rd one) handle 150W of load?
    Or should I go with the Resistive type regulator (1st one)
    150w will be about 0.65amps at 240v

    • @PhaseNeutral
      @PhaseNeutral  ปีที่แล้ว

      The ceiling fan regulators are designed for working in line voltage ( 240V). If you connect with 12V. You can't get proper result .

    • @shreyaskumar5366
      @shreyaskumar5366 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhaseNeutral bro you dont understand.. i will connect the regulator to the input aide of my transformer i.e. at 240v side
      And as the regulator will vary the input voltage of the transformer .. the output 12v should also vary
      I am just asking .. as I need around 10amps on the output .. which means roughly 0.6 amps on the input around 130watts ... so can the capacitive type regulator handle that load or should I get a reaistive type?
      (The triac and diac type regulator ia out of the question)

    • @hikundu
      @hikundu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you finally want a variable DC then after the bridge rectifier connect a buck converter if you want lower than 12V or a boost converter if higher than 12 V. They are very energy efficient (80-95%) as well.

    • @shreyaskumar5366
      @shreyaskumar5366 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hikundu but those buck/boost converters with more than 10Amps are quiet expensive

    Hi, how does the first regulator work by decreasing only voltage? I heard if you reduce voltage in a 2phase motor it will pull more current and use same wattage

      @@AndrewNoronha-cb2gy Yes, I had the same doubt, First type Regulator doesn't reduce current, It's just reducing voltage. Usage of current is same, Even if u put fan on point 1 it uses same current as point 5 , it just waste energy as heat.Point 1 create more heat.

      It's because there's less torque on the motor but it's working harder so it makes it really hot even though it's a low voltage they're still a bunch of current

    Does lowering the fan speed using capacitor can reduce total power consumption & result in lesser electricity bill or the reactive power generated by capacitors is also accounted in total power consumption to have no difference in electricity bill. In simple terms, can lowering your fan speed save you some money.

    • @PhaseNeutral
      @PhaseNeutral  ปีที่แล้ว

      Capacitor Regulators help you to save electricity when fan running slow seeped. But it is not 100% saving.. all electronic devices should have a little power loss.
