My school has Bobby Shew as the guest artist this weekend. The man is an amazing player and he's got a boatload of wisdom to impart.

I absolutely love this. There’s something really melodic about this.

Am I the only one who hears this primarily in 3 (as a jazz waltz)? Bassist is playing steady 3s, and even the perc. don't sound like synco-3-against 2. I imagine someone reading here may know the actual chart from experience.
In any case, an inspired solo by Bobby. And so great to see the transcription. Thanks to whoever took the time to do it!

+BuzzVenturion I know what you mean, I listened and followed along and it was weird. I know the title is "Six Eight" but still sounds like a waltz.

It does sound like something Pat Metheney does, an interesting time signature with different feels built in at different points. Not as complex as something like The First Circle but still has a great hemiola feel

LOLOLOL. This is frick'n great. I can't stop laughing I'm so happy. I've listened to this so many times and never thought I'd ever see the music and listen to the solo at the same time.
    Thanks!

I've been a jazz fan and player for quite a few years, and this, THIS is the best of the best. Some soloists try to just play the super high notes and super fast to seem cool, but nothing can compare to making a melody that makes people FEEL. Knowing when to pause, adding in some small key changes, and just playing with PASSION make this honestly the best jazz solo.

so rich and interesting, and still very clear in the phrases. I d prefer a 3/4 bars, like the bass does. I still dunt know the whole tune.
    Thanks for sharing !
