    What I have noticed with GKs who use this position outside of volley / half volley / dead ball service to hands is that the hands will drop to move.
    Eg when a GK dives, the hands will come back into centre of body to then shoot back out to dive. We need to use our arms to move the rest of our body. It works in sync.

    I don’t know why coaches do this I have never seen a professional with that form yet some say it’s what u need to do

    I once joined a training session for younger keepers and they taught "thumbs up" position as well. It's never felt natural to me especially when you react save with a hold directly above your head

      It’s crazy! Just let goalkeepers do what they find natural. It’s that’s simple 😃

    I think I used this before(i don't properly remember what i did) but after watching the top keepers i changed to keeping my hands lower. Then I had difficulty in catching the ball cuz it took a lot of time to move your hands back up starting down. Then fortunately my gk coach recommended me to do this and it's easier now

      Really!? How much longer did it take? Was this for when you were getting volley service into your hands?

      @@shreedesai4684 that’s why we don’t encourage it because it’s only “helpful” for that type of service. But that isn’t what you’ll get in games.

      My hands during games are neither totally down nor like these, they are kinda above my thighs, is that good?

      @@shreedesai4684 whatever is most comfortable to you 🙌. You need to have fluidity in your movements.

    I’d love to get your opinion on the arm swing before diving. Because I was a goalkeeper who did that before my coach told me to switch that position to the one you demonstrated, althought it has helped me grip more balls It still feels un-natural and un-comfortable at times, so I’d to hear what your opinion on it is and If it could help me in any sort of way!

    • @ModernDayGK
      @ModernDayGK  ปีที่แล้ว

      The arm swing is relative to how much time is available. (Bigger swing when there’s more time).
      If you feel like it’s natural to use an arm swing. Use it. Your body is clever enough to know how far you can swing your arms and the timing they need to come back forward. The body knows when to cut an arm swing short basically. The elbow usually flexes / bends too which means distance isn’t as big as people think.
