Yes thank you for this video. 1st year chicken owner my girls will be 1 year old in November. I love your channel and your girls Donna. I have learned so much from your videos. Thanks for sharing your life and knowledge with us. I enjoy every video 👋👋
Please tell the ladies “I’m sorry” for me…. I would love for them to have a nice mild winter, but I live in middle GA and I want SNOW!!!!!! At least a couple of days of real snow. ❄️ 😇
My girls are a mess with molting. Long molts too… feathers 🪶 everywhere. My sapphire gem got through it well and is laying again and beautiful. My ISA browns are going on two months, almost three. I did run into an issue recently with their feed and now starting them on scratch and peck organic feed. I’m curious, what is your feeding regime, maybe do a video on feeding…crumbles, pellets or even brand and how much or often. Ever thought about having an email address just for TH-cam for inquiries? Anyway… 20 questions and I’m done…thanks for sharing as always 😌
I am going to have an email address soon. I already have a hard time keeping up with comments on here, so I worry I won't be so good at responding to the email account. 🤣 I feed pellets, but off the top of my head, I don't know the brand because my husband always picks it up and then pours it into the container, so I rarely ever see the bag. I also give them a whole grain organic feed that I ferment. 😊
@@thecoopscoop For what it's worth - you do a good job and it's ok to not tackle every comment, you're growing this channel, and will continue to grow...much like the others on YT - there's no way to keep up and grace is given for those who don't get a reply. We all understand life is busy and you're doing a great job connecting with us out here watching. I'm not on SM much - I only get on here to watch yours, because I learn something new...and then one other channel. Otherwise, YT doesn't serve me when life is always moving. Maybe do a video addressing this and you'll see your audience will give grace on your time doing what you do. I always appreciate your reply, but if I don't get one...I'll still come back. Thanks Donna. :)
I got a ton that are molting and they are being very moody at bedtime. Pecking and pushing each other off the roost.. not wanting to go in the coop at night. It's like a chicken fight club.
mine are the same when they molt they don't want handled generally they think I'm a chicken playground and constantly climbing all over me I do the eggs also and add a small lump of homemade greek yogurt to the eggs for extra gut health
Do they return to their usual personality after the moult finishes? My sweet girl won't let me hold her anymore, lost weight too. It's her first moult and it's a bad one. She looks just awful. She's irritable and runs when I try to pick her up.
@lizzysanders523 Yes, it's very uncomfortable for them, so even my sweetest girl doesn't want me to touch her. It takes weeks for their feathers to grow back in, and afterward, they'll be just like they were beforehand.
That's why this channel is one of the best! Thanks for the info👍🐔
@BoneItis639 Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy it! ❤️

Molting Chickens and How to Care For Them
I also have sweater heaters in the coops I only use when it's negative in winter and if there's a hard molt. there a bit pricy but worth it
I would probably get a couple of them if I lived in a cold area too. 🥰
The geese at the park I walk are also molting
Try a bit of 'cat food' (kibble type, not soft) for the ones in molt. They seem to handle the molt better. Works on Leghorns. Your mileage may vary. 🙂
I do give them cat food too and forgot to mention that. Sometimes, they even get their own cat food when they raid the cat's bowl. 🤣

Maybe you can order up some snow juuuust for your area. 🤣
