A brilliant piece of work. By far, a better storyline than most post apocalyptic stories I've seen on Dust lately. I hope you consider making this a set of films continuing this tale.

I don't have enough words to express how much I enjoyed this short film. I find every single second magnificent. Thoughts and images that give so much food for thought about our past, present and future.
I really like the ambiguous ending. Is she going to be a good "god" or a bad one? At least, it wasn't immediately obvious to me what her intentions were after being "enlightened". I like it when things are left to the watcher/reader to ponder these things. I really don't like how a lot of modern media does the thinking for you. It's especially bad in Young Adult fiction, which usually focuses on "the feels" with the world/tropes just propped up around it without any reflection/introspection. Anyway, well done! I enjoyed what to me is science fiction functioning at its best. 😎
I think you misunderstand how much control the vehicle (human) has over the driver (AI) in this story. The human in this case is an interface to the world which may have some influence through its experiences but ultimately it is small in comparison to the "godlike" power the AI wields. I have to admit that the short does seem to be trying to tell two different stories at the same time leading to what seems to be female empowerment through subjection to a greater amoral power. Makes for a confusing narrative.
It is different, varied and well run. The staging, the photography, the music, the setting and those little details (that make one doubt between past / future or lack of budget; example: grass cutting for a golfer in times of runes) very well resolved. The interpretation is very good. Congratulations to all.
I love how the book she finds seems to explain why her world is the way it is. I came searching for this specific video, having been thinking about it lately from watching it long ago for the first time. LOVE THIS!
Very nice. The AI may not have been “kind”, but it had seen what had happened in the past, it was preserving the human race and saving it from itself. We REALLY got a kick out of the surveillance bird. It was a funny reference to the “Birds Aren’t Real” meme. Peter McIndoe is a marketing genius 😂
@@venusXL I know we’re talking about fiction here, and your beautiful, short film… but honestly, you aren’t kidding. The inability of the human race to reach homeostasis with the environment is a catastrophic scenario for the future of the human race (as you well know). There are no two ways about it. When people were nomadic and consisted of small wandering groups that would strip an area, move on, and allow that area to heal before perhaps rotating back to that site, our overconsumption wasn’t really an issue. But now, with large cities, the unceasing development of pristine land in the pursuit of dwindling resources (including transforming biodiverse areas into monocultures) and the Western way of life being exported across the globe (particularly China and India)… the future looks more than a little grim. When one considers that the US makes up approximately 5% of the global population but consumes about 25% of the resources produced, it doesn’t take a math major to figure out that those numbers are simply unsustainable. What happens now that larger countries have adopted our single-use disposable goods mentality? We don’t want to say the future is a hopeless scenario. People are amazing and beautiful, incredibly creative and adaptable… but they are also tribal, and competitive, and people aren’t really in charge so much as multinational and monied interests (i.e. corporations) are running the show through the manipulation of the political process in order to please their investors next quarter. A.I. could literally save us. A benevolent A.I. that is. Hopefully we can achieve such a thing. And we need to get it right the first time. The last thing we need is a malevolent Heinlein manifestation… hopefully we land closer to what Asimov envisioned. Time will tell. And thank you for this beautiful story. Edit: typos
I agree with other DUSTERS. This needs a 3 to maybe 5 series. Has a very good story line. Needs more telling. Thanks DUST for bringing this to us DUSTERS.
Wow, it's impressive. I like the tone. Technology tells us the truth, but also can ruin our life. Sometimes, the truth is not really true, so we have to learn how to deal with it with a proper attitude.
I am a huge fan of the culling concept. Because it's something that from a completely logical/data-based perspective, makes perfect sense. You limit/regulate the population of humanity to keep us in balance with the world and prevent most problems such as resource decline, wars, pollution, etc. But at the same time it is entirely counter-point to our basic empathy and emotions as humans. So it is such a great narrative point in terms of writing/storytelling since it's one of those subjects where you can technically portray either side as being correct, or create a dark sense of foreboding where who is right/wrong doesn't matter, but the methods being carried out (and whether or not successful) create this grim prospect of a world.
Superb. Felt like there were echo's of things like Senua's sacrifice, system shock, hitchikers guide and the Village amongst others, though that's probably more my baggage than yours ;) -and it felt totally original in of itself, so please don't take that wrongly. Quality performances from both main actor's - Severine is a beautiful embodiment of the human spirit, delightlfully wilful, Christopher's subtle balance between benevolence and menace is delicious "simply a gardener" haha that was a lovely line perfectly delivered, and of course with secondary meaning as was 'things always appear different with distance'.
