As a fan of the Alien series, I thoroughly enjoyed what felt like a well executed tribute to the franchise, with it's own unique touch! The Alien references I noticed were at 3:15 (same alarm sound as on the Nostromo in ALIEN), the fact that the planet they land on is windy af, the helmets picking up a "rogue transmission" (Covenant) and of course the saliva dripping onto the unsuspecting victim. And as another commenter noted, only giving brief glimpses of the creature, leaving you to fill in the blanks so to speak. Well done short by very talented people and clearly fans of ALIEN. Thank you DUST for curating excellent content, as always!
As with a lot of the other comments, a very strong "Alien" feel to it (nothing wrong with that!). Decent acting, FX work was good. Good suspense, not a huge focus on the alien, creature or whatever it is, but enough to let you get the idea... it's NOT friendly! Nicely done.
I think having just a glimpse of the threat was a fantastic move, really keeps up the suspension and mystery. Shout out to the engineer Schultz (John Gessner) on board the Iris warning the others, great performance! Overall a very enticing and thrilling short!
Well done in relating that there was a non-friendly creature that did not like humans. Also, home warned them 55 yrs earlier while they were in cryo but they didn't heed the warning NOT to land...
The main thing it lacks in the Alien comparison is the social commentary. Alien took an extremely dim view of the corporation running the show; people died specifically because of decisions it made. So this has some of the surface-level tropes from Alien, but nothing deeper.
Of course, a lot of people are saying it resembles Alien and, it does. That's why I'm here. I like this style and I know it still has a lot of potential.

I really liked it. Great job on the alien. You used a trick that I haven't seen in modern films. I think it makes it much more scary. Directors like Jack Arnold and Alfred Hitchcock would often use it. The idea was to only give you glimpses of the creature and force your mind to fill in the blanks. The mind can make a simple costume in the dark turn into something much more horrific than any amount of special effects can. Not sure if time was a constraint, but I would suggest giving the audience a little more time to build suspense. Areas like the process of landing, moving through the building. A couple of jump scares that are false like something falling over etc... In all I thought you did a great job.
The thing is, those 'see-through, floaty panel things' aren't sci-fi anymore; we already have them in AR and VR. Obviously that tech is not yet reliable enough to use in current space vehicles, but it won't be too long before buttons and switches will be for science-history rather than science-fiction.

I want to see where that storyline goes. seriously. that was well paced. well edited, and fairly well directed. good job you guys. I want to see more of this.
Well shot, fast paced and competently acted; you can't find much of that on paid TV anymore, the praise is well deserved. Also, as a former USAF 304XX, I do appreciate seeing the AFCC patch early on (I was in when it was upgraded to a command and it still is, by Gawd!), though I couldn't remember what Army unit the rest of the patches were; that gave me a bit of a throw-off since I recognized them, realized I'm probably one of the few who actually recognized them and that's why you used them. A very minor peccadillo.
I was more thrown by the odd combination of a very specific Oatey/Harvey washing machine waste water support hook (UPC 00009326409016) paired with a generic 19/21mm corrugate waste pipe on their helments.
Get an old abandoned warehouse, out dated equipment, $200 at the Army/Navy store and actors from the coffee shop around the corner boom- you got a movie. The patches are upside down USArmy unit patches.
Definitely like the possibility that they have been here before; caught in a time loop maybe. Sixty two year old message and corpse turned to DUST. lol
That was nice, yes one can see they had a tight budget but lets be fair, we all have seen movies with more budget that looked less good and way much more worse. Sweet movie i enjoyed it.

I would love to see a full length feature from these guys/girls
Dude that was sweet. Nice node to Alien but with a time loop paradox.
Thanks, Mr. Sarcasum! Appreciate you taking the time to watch our short! 😃😃😃
@@CadenButera oh course!
"Then. Boost. The. Signal." Can you feel the strength? So edgy! So powerful!!!
Dust is such a talented group. I wish y’all would make trailers for the short films. I could push your projects plenty of traffic. 😬❤️
They don't make the short films. They only help distribute them.
Dust re-distributes independent films with permission/a fee - the company and channel don't directly write, cast, or produce the videos on their platform+channel, at least to my knowledge they don't...? Please don't hesitate to reach out to any of the original groups & producers though! They're most if not always listed in the descriptions!!!!
Dust is just a channel buddy.
This is so cool how the special post-effects covered that simple warehouse down on the planet and made me forget that washing machine water pipe on their helmet. Congrat! 🤘🏼
Btw, it was a very creative usage of that part. 😊
Now *THIS* is what sci-fi horror is supposed to be about. Last few dozen have been "fee-fee" snoozers. 🏆🥇
Glad you enjoyed it!
The spaceship in the thumbnail and beginning looks amazing
I want to see where that storyline goes. seriously. that was well paced. well edited, and fairly well directed. good job you guys. I want to see more of this.
Thanks for your support Christopher! Follow me on Instagram if you want too..!
For the next episode, they will send a group of space marines in... oh wait...
If only they had $100 more to spend on production, it would've made a big difference.
Loved it!
Fun Fact: The patch on their uniform is an upside-down US Army 7th Army Training Command (in Germany) patch....my last unit patch before I retired.
Thanks! And great catch!
I was more thrown by the odd combination of a very specific Oatey/Harvey washing machine waste water support hook (UPC 00009326409016) paired with a generic 19/21mm corrugate waste pipe on their helments.
@@maxximumb Actually it’s the Everbilt brand discharge hose
@@CadenButera You don't know how long I searched online for the hook with the raised line on it, just for the joke.
Great film though.
The broken fluorescent tubes on the floor -> mercury vapor in the air + heavy breathing... classic
I dont mind the parody. Kind of funny actually. The classics are such for a reason.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh😳😳😵💫😵💫😵😵😵 scared the 💩right out of me. This would definitely be a fantastic longer length feature. Hated that it ended so soon!!!!
Haha, glad you enjoyed it! Glad we could scare ya!
Truely TOP CLASS .. Nice work Guys
Get an old abandoned warehouse, out dated equipment, $200 at the Army/Navy store and actors from the coffee shop around the corner boom- you got a movie. The patches are upside down USArmy unit patches.
😀 @ coffee shop
Remember, in space no one can hear you scream. Where's Ripley whenever you need her?
Definitely like the possibility that they have been here before; caught in a time loop maybe. Sixty two year old message and corpse turned to DUST. lol
Love the small electrical panel with a couple empty holes and a red blinking light inside lol. I work in a panel shop
More answers in that than the entire series of Lost.
Very chilling and captivating short.
Thanks for watching!
That was nice, yes one can see they had a tight budget but lets be fair, we all have seen movies with more budget that looked less good and way much more worse. Sweet movie i enjoyed it.
Thank you for your support. And the acting was spot on right? ;-)
Set in 22nd century, super advance tech (kinda), cryo sleep, interstellar travel, yet the same tropes of stupid and incompetent crews like guys in Prometheus or Covenant. But I love it! Same like horror/slasher tropes, it just doesn't get old, at least for me.
